A Shoulder to Cry On
BruceDiana
A/N: This fanfic was inspired by New 52's Batman Incorporated #8.
Diana had never seen him cry. It was the first weak moment that she had ever seen from him. "Bruce," she whispered his name. He was in the training room blowing forceful punches at the punching bag that swayed to long distances. One forceful punch finally broke the bag and its holds on the chain. Diana could hear his ragged breathing. Sweat had staggered on his back, making his light gray turn to dark. As she moved closer, she noticed his fists had started to bleed. She saw drops of red fall to the ground. Diana walked past him and stood in front of him. She could see the pained look on his face. His eyes were shut tight and his lips in a thin line. Both of his fists were clenched. Then Bruce fell to his knees, Diana catching him in her arms immediately. They both sat down on the ground in silence.
Then, Bruce started to cry.
Diana felt his tears fall down and touch her shoulder. She clutched his head in her arms, ran her hands through his sweaty hair, and planted soft kisses on his temple. Bruce wrapped his arms around her, assuring that she truly was there. "Why did it have to be Damian and not me?" He asked in a whisper. He could still not believe that his beloved son had died. At that, Diana's tears had trickled down her face. "Bruce," she shushed him. She kept his hold of him, cradling his face on her left shoulder, a bit closer to her heart. Bruce could hear the soft beats of her heart and it soothed him from the anguish he felt.
Knowing that Damian was Bruce's biological son, she had learned to love Damian, even though she had not met him personally and now she had lost the chance to do so. Bruce had already learned to love the boy and the boy had done the same too. Diana could still feel the tears coming from Bruce. "One day, you'll see him again. He's in a better place now, Bruce," She said as she ran her hand through his slick hair once again. Bruce closed his eyes and imagined Damian holding hands with his parents and it made him smile. 'They would've loved the boy,' he said to himself.
They stayed like that for what felt like an eternity. Bruce felt that he was safe in Diana's arms. With her, he felt comfort and slowly the pain he felt went away. She was right. He would see Damian soon and with that, he tightened his hold of Diana and never wanted to let go.
