Dean eyed his younger brother, frowning at his pallid, haggard appearance while reluctantly pulling on his jacket. "All right—I'm gonna go into town, do reconnaissance on those headless bodies. I'll bring back some food."

"Fine," mumbled Sam, pulling the blanket tighter around his shoulders.

"I'll check in every 15 minutes."

"You don't have to do that Dean. I'm fine."

"Yeah, yeah—I can see just how fine you are. Still checkin' in, dude."

Sam watched Dean leave. When the rumble of the Impala faded, he let himself slump. The sickness momentarily overwhelming his will. Pretense was taking its toll.
