'Going shopping, what do we need? -JW'
I send the text before I remember. He's not around anymore. I stare at my phone screen for a few moments before slipping it into my jacket pocket. I look out of the cab window at the streets praying it wasn't real. That it was the one more miracle I had asked for. That he wasn't- I shut my eyes. Shut out the pain.
"Where to?" The cabbie asks.
"Town centre." I say, opening my eyes.
Almost everyday I accidentally text him, forgetting for a moment. Just things like 'Mrs Hudson won't be home tonight what do you want for tea?' or 'We're out of milk again.' it's crushing everytime I remember.
I rush around town trying to get everything done quickly so I can get home. I don't even glance at peoples faces.
I'm just about to leave the store I'm in when my phone buzzes. I slide it out of my pocket, heart thumping like every time. Please let it be him. Please let him not be dead.
'We're out of milk -SH'
I drop my phone. It bounces across the shop floor and skids to a stop. Sherlock. He's alive. I run to my phone and pick it up. The screen is cracked but you can still read to text. I race across the store to the door, dropping my shopping as I run. I wave my arms around for a cab and jump in.
"221B BAKER STREET!" I yell at the cabbie. "NOW!" The man looks surprised but drives fairly quickly to Baker St.
When we arrive I throw some money at him and jump out. I throw open the door and race up the stairs, two at a time. I burst though the door and there he is. Sherlock Holmes.
"Did you get the milk?" He asks calmly. A sob escapes me and I launch myself at him. I punch every part of him I can reach, crying all the time. "Don't. You. Ever. Die. Again." I wail.
"John! Stop!" Sherlock shouts. "I- I'm sorry!" I stop. Tears are streaming down my face as I glare up at the tall man with the dark curls. Sherlock looks down at me.
"I'm sorry." He whispers. He leans down slowly and plants his lips firmly against mine. I lean into him closing my eyes. I open them and end the kiss. Confusion flickers across his face for probably the first time ever.
I grin. "You're forgiven." He laughs and I lean back in to continue the kiss.
