Chapter 19: Dino

"R-Reborn?!"

Dino was confused. And horrified. And so very afraid.

His ex-tutor had called him to come see his new student, the future don of the Vongola who was supposed to be as hopeless as Dino himself had been before Reborn came in all his gun blazing glory to shape him into a worthy boss of the Cavallone. Maybe even more hopeless as Dino had at least been raised in the mafia; this kid was raised as a pure civilian.

So of course, being the good student that he was, and also having a healthy dose of fear for whatever punishment the infant would no doubt dish out if he refused, he took his families plane and flew over to Japan with a handful of men.

That's when things started to go wrong. It was his first time to Japan; he didn't have a clue as to where to go. Thankfully some nice civilians had pointed him in the right direction to Namimori and even how to get there- he'd never ridden in a subway before. Since his family had hardly ever had any dealings in Japan there wasn't a house much less a car he could use.

He thought things were going great until he actually arrived. The Sawada residence was proving rather difficult to find and he and his men were helplessly lost. Dino could already see the remedial lessons Reborn would no doubt force on him for getting lost along with whatever torture method flew through his mind. He couldn't help it though, even with his family members present he couldn't tell one house from the next!

That all came to a moot point when he saw the girl at the end of her street, that scarily familiar cocky smirk on her face and the gun of his nightmares cradled delicately but no doubt strongly in her elegant looking hands. The school uniform was classy, made of the same high end materials Reborn favored for his suits, and it showed off her developing body very nicely.

Dino was inclined to think that this young lady was just a female look alike to the hitman but...that pose, the smirk, those ridiculously (not that he would ever say to Reborns face) bouncy sideburns...there was no doubt. This was Reborn.

The green eyes did throw him off for a second but didn't babies eyes change when they got older right? As for the age, well, it was Reborn and when had impossible ever been in his- er, her dictionary.

Mio dio, his tutor was a girl. A very attractive girl. A girl he had just been checking out. Dino's life flashed before his eyes.

"Stop gaping useless-Dino. A mafia don does not gape" the expected hit from Leon's hammer didn't come. Brown eyes silvered open (when had he closed them?) to look down into sadistically glowing green.

'Reborn' sighed. "I guess a tutor's job is never done. Prepare for Hell" this was all said in an exasperated tone but Dino didn't let that fool him. This tutor from Hell was a master at tone and expression. Nothing was ever as it seemed. He- no she was a sadist of the highest order.

Still, there was something niggling at the back of his mind about this entire thing. That's probably why he opened his mouth.

"Have you always been a girl?"

He was so dead. Good bye life, it's been torturous these past few years, but it's been a pleasure.

This was fun! The most fun she's had in ages!

Lumie inwardly cackled at the faces the blond and his men were making. The stumped, confused and outright gaping in some cases made her day. Dino's was by far the most glorious in his stupefaction; all bug-eyed and gaping mouth with the amusing expression combination of fear, surprise and something else that she was sure was equally as humorous. If only she had a camera right now.

Those days of observing Reborn weren't useless after all!

"Are you trying to imply something useless-Dino?" It was harder then she thought keeping her glee out of her voice, but over a years' worth of practice on Dame-kun had given her ample skill.

Lumie was starting to see a trend. Maybe Reborn had some other students around that she could mess with?

"N-no! Um, it's just that- well, you look nice" her poor poor unfortunate victim stuttered out, face paling a few shades.

Now, what would daddy-dear do in this situation?

"A boss doesn't stutter. Looks like you'll be joining Tsuna. Oh and Dino" the blond gulped, "I'm a thousand years out of your league". She let the blond stew over those worlds as he paled even further. So he had been checking her out earlier if the stuttering was anything to go by.

Hmmm...She hadn't had anything since this morning. It had been nothing more than a granola bar since she didn't head over to the Sawada house earlier. And it was lunch time soooooo... At least the blond was following her.

"R-Reborn? Where are we going?" Dino finally asked when they entered into the shopping district of Namimori.

"I'm hungry." She said simply.

"...Oh" clearly her father had the blonde trained quite thoroughly since he didn't even whine. Instead Dino just followed along with a bowed head and an air of resigned acceptance.

Lumie was so milking this as much as she could. Tsuna never let her pull stunts like this (at least not as often as he used too) without whining even a little. Maybe she could trade training secrets with the hitman? They could even make a slide show for future generations; 'How to make an idiot obedient in three easy steps'.

"Welcome! Today we have-" the cashier greeted as they stepped into the coffee shop. Lumie would have loved to go to the cake shop, they had good espresso to go with their equally excellent cake, but it wouldn't be something Reborn would do or even make Dino pay for.

...Actually he probably would just to see the look on the broncos face but she didn't want to risk it. Besides, the entertainment this was generating made up for it.

After ordering the two of them sat by the window, Dino's men in the surrounding tables and some at the door and windows outside to guard them.

"Reborn, what can you tell me about the Vongola heir?" Lumie paused, the cups brim barely ghosting over her lips. So he was blunt? Or was it because he believed that she was Reborn?

"I would have thought you would want to form your own opinions".

Dino leaned his chin on his folded hands placed on the table. "Ah, but it wouldn't hurt knowing a bit about him before meeting him would it? Besides, every big brother needs to know a bit about their little brother." A small smile played across his lips.

The hair shadowing her face was the only thing that hid her pleased smile. So the blond was still going to become Dame-kuns older brother. That was a relief. Some of the changes that been happening have made her slightly unsure as what to expect. Still, this line of questioning wasn't something she had expected when taking this ruse. Lumie would have to take advantage of this. Canon older brother figure or not Dino was still a Mafioso, and more importantly a don of another famiglia, ally or not.

"It's your fault for not doing any research on your way here". Reborns student or not, ally or not, Tsunas future older brother or not, there was no way Lumie would ever willingly disclose info on Tsuna. Dame-kun was hers even if she had to share him now. He was hers first.

The Cavallone boss's head tilted sheepishly to the side an equally sheepish look on his face. "Can't you even give me a break Reborn? I rushed over here after you called. There hasn't been any time to order research on the Vongola heir" he whined.

"Ho? Whining now?" This terrifying people thing was fun. Maybe Reborn would play along with her later? More father/daughter bonding time, even if half the duo didn't know.

Would they pull stuff like this when he found out? It was too much fun not to...

A thought for another time.

Dino backtracked. "N-nope! Just trying to explain hahaha" he trailed off nervously before a more serious look entered his brown eyes. "Hey Reborn..."

Green eyes blinked away from their current victim -the only bald member of Dino's guard released a loud sigh of relief as the arcobalenos unnerving gaze moved away from him- to the don.

"How did you grow up so fast? Is it an arcobaleno thing?" He asked earnestly. Of all things to ask.

Oh boy. How to answer this one? She brought her cup up and took a sip, savor info the flavor of well brewed espresso, the dark richness playing over her tongue and setting her taste buds aflame as she thought over a response. There was no right way to reply. The arcobaleno curse was a sensitive subject even to Verde who had admitted that while he found the curse fascinating he hated the situation it put him in. Her father, from what she remembered from the series and manga and her own observations, despised the curse with the strength of a thousand suns. Pretending to admit to a cure is going way too far, even in jest. And considering Reborns actions when they first...

Yeah, let's not go there.

Unknown to Lumie who had yet to so much as blink since the question was posed to her, Dino was becoming increasingly unnerved. The blond was sweating buckets as narrowed green eyes glared at him.

"U-um Reborn" he started off hesitantly, "I don't need to know" a sigh of relief escaped his lips as his ex-tutor blinked.

'I'm hungry' Lumie really regretted not going to the cake shop. She doubts Dino would have questioned it. The poor idiot was too terrified of Reborn to even question it.

'It's been a while since Tsuna cooked...' Pulling out her phone she fired off a quick text to the brunet about him cooking tonight and another to the Sawada matriarch informing her that Tsuna volunteered to cook tonight.

"Where's Leon? I wanted him to see Enzio"

Watching him flinch was seriously starting to get addicting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lips curled up in a smirk full of dark promises, Lumie head towards the Sawada residence. School was almost out and the bronco needed to meet with the real Reborn. She's pretty sure that Dino was supposed to meet Tsuna and begin the start of their brotherly love troupe.
And she wanted to be there to see their reaction to the real hitman.
Plus, there was only so much she could get away with pretending to be Reborn. Best not test the real ones patience.
Outside the Sawada house amused green eyes met knowing and equally amused black eyes.
Looks like he already knew what was going on and was willing to play along.
Lumie resisted the urge to rub her hands and cackle with glee. Let the fun begin!
He was late. Reborn was going to skin his oldest, useless student when he got here. Knowing the blond he got lost.
He was right. His insect spies of the season reported that Dino had gotten lost, but that wasn't all they said.
That idiotic student of his had mistaken Taiyou for him. Reborn would have to teach him how to differentiate between people. That no good useless student should have known that he was a man. There was a reason he introduced himself as the world's greatest hitman. And he had bathed with the moron in the various lakes and rivers while they were out in there forest training. Still...
That was another person who either mistook Taiyou as him or thought they were closely related. Fon even went so far as to congratulate him on keeping his daughter so well hidden.
Fon was one thing, despite being old 'colleagues', Dino should have been more familiar with him, enough so that he would be able to tell an imposter immediately! That he mistook Taiyou as him was either a lack of observation on his part or spoke of the girls acting skills or both. More than likely it was both.
Reborns lips tilted downward. It was getting passed the amusing stage and right into annoying. He didn't make mistakes, he was no rookie. And in the off chance that he had made a mistake when he spent a night with a lady does everyone really think he wouldn't have heard about it? Mafioso, Reborn had found, were like housewives. No matter how hard they tried to keep their mouths shut they always talked, and something as juicy as the world's greatest hitman having a kid wouldn't have stayed quiet for long.
There were on average one to two members of any given family, gang or other such group in any city in any country, or at least someone affiliated with one. The chances of any child of being his would have hit the news charts in their society. And Reborn would. Have. Heard.
You don't get to his position and keep it without keeping an eye and more ears then one can count to the ground to know what's going on. And Reborn had once been one of those people, at the very bottom before he paved his blood drenched path to the top, so he knows just how much those overlooked rookies can see. It doesn't mean that they know what it is they've saw though.
So he would have known.
'But-' his mind traitorously whispered, 'the CEDEF file on her was wrong, and despite their stupidity they aren't that incompetent'. And Reborn hated that voice because he could see the logic.
Reborn didn't like Taiyou. She caused all sorts of doubts to spring up, ideas, possibilities and the likes. But he didn't dislike her either. He wasn't that shallow, and the teen provided ample amounts of entertainment in her interaction with 'Dame-kun', enough to make up for the minor annoyances her presence created.
A Beatle landed on his outstretched hand. So they were finally heading this way. Good. It looks like he had another lesson to tech to his useless student. Reborn smirked, he was looking forward to it. Dino's screams would be music to his ears.
Hopping to the windows ledge black eyes connected with amused green and his smirk became wider. There was no reason that he couldn't have a little amusement while this happened, and Tsuna wasn't due home for another hour.
Handing the ecstatic Nana the groceries she had con-ed the blond into buying, Lumie instructed the mother to give them to Dame-kun -and ignoring the high pitched squeal she released at hearing that Tsuna would be cooking that night. She hadn't gotten the text she sent, not that it surprised her. Nana was technology illiterate; besides household items she really couldn't work any electronics. She has a cell phone, but more often than not she loses, misplaces or breaks it.
"Ara~ mama is so excited~! Ne Lumie-chan, who is this dashing young man with you?" Lumie had to wonder at the teasing tone in Nanas voice. But she pushed it aside.
"This is Dino-san. He's a friend of Reborns that I found lost earlier"
The Italian don and his men were giving her confused, wary assessing looks. They had thought she was her father and revealed more than they were supposed to. Too bad. Reborn was in on it now so there would be a bit more mind-
"Dino. Taiyou" speak of the devil and he will appear.
"R-Reborn?" Dino sputtered, mouth gaping. His eyes flickered between our two forms and slowly dawn realization mixed in with horror and surprise. Looks like he finally got it.
"Reborn-chan play nice with your friends ok?" And the matriarch was off to do who knows what while humming "Tsu-kun's cooking~".
"Reborn what's going on? Who is this girl? Why did she pretend to be you?" Dino asked question after question and the girl in question just smirked, which made him flinch and quickly glance between her and Reborn.
Based on how pale he was becoming and the horror in his eyes he was starting to see what Tsuna had already figured out, but Reborn hadn't.
Lumie was really starting to question Reborns intelligence.
"You're asking too many questions" one Leon-hammer to the blonds luckily hard head they made their way to Tsunas room.
Lumie pet Leon who had decided to crawl into her hand with gentle fingers. For a lizard he really was soft, not at all scaly like she had figured the first time.
"I'm actually Reborn 2.0, a robot A.I. created by Vongolas R&D department for the purpose of protecting the Vongola decimo" Lumie couldn't resist screwing with Dino's mind more.
She twirled a piece of hair between her fingers and Reborn tugged at his side burns in sync with her, smirking at his gaping student.
"Y-you're a robot?!" He pointed incredulously at her, forgetting his manners. "B-but I saw you drink! And eat!"
"I'm a fairly advanced version, and the scientists have been working on a prototype for years already. I turn consumable food into energy to run my systems" she steamrolled, enjoying Dino's mind breaking.
"Bu-but? What?" There was a blank look in those brown eyes amidst all the confusion.
"I think we broke him" Reborn commented with a smirk, taking a purring -and how a lizard purred was something she was rather curios about- Leon back.
"I think we did" she agreed with him.
A slow blink and then Dino was back with them. "Wait-what?"
"Stupid-Dino this is Taiyou Lumiere, Tsunas best friend and possible right hand" Lumie waved her hand as Reborn introduced her, beaming a slightly sadistic grin.
Dino blanched. She wondered why but shrugged it off.
'This is really fun.'
"On that matter..." Leon quickly shifted form again, this time into a gun and Reborn started shooting at his former student. Since Dinos men were forced to stay outside he had a hard time dodging, really more stumbling, away from the rubber bullets and got hit more often than not. "How did you come to the conclusion that she was me?"
"S-she looks exact (gah!) like you! She didn't (ow!) say anything either!" Those few moment of speaking cost him quite a bit.
Lumie made sure she was out of the way and watched the spectacle, relaxing on the bed. This looks like it was going to take a while.
Tsuna and Dino's meting went almost exactly as she remembered it, only with the latter not quite looking as perfect as he was supposed to. But all the bruises formed from Reborns tender loving care did make him look more mafia-like according to Dame-kun.
"You're grinning" Verde idly pointed out across the dinner table, fork -because the green haired baby was more than fed up with attempting to use sticks to eat - pointed in her direction.
"Just thinking of something from earlier". Lumie sipped some broth into her mouth. The soup she made for dinner turned out better than expected. It wasn't burned for one, and while there was a bit too much seasoning, as far as her cooking attempts go it wasn't bad.
She mourned the lost chance to have some of Tsunas to die for cooking. But uncle wanted her home for whatever reason so she missed out.
Swirling some noodles into to his utensil, her uncle 'hmm-ed' considering. "This wouldn't have to do with the Cavallone-brat does it?"
"Yeah...he's a bit of an idiot".
"I'm not surprised you think that. You had the boy on a leash the entire day. Honestly, mistaking you for Reborn. Can't he even tell the difference between sexes?" Her uncle trailed off into a mutter.
Spoon now in her bowl she rested her arms on the table with her chin resting on crossed fingers. "So you saw?" Not that it shocked her or anything. Verde did control the majority of the cameras in Namimori. Lumie probably should be upset about the man's tendency to observe her but she knew he was just protective. Besides, as long as it wasn't anything too obvious she didn't mind.
She had long since gotten used to the scientists way of showing he cared. And that he would go to such measures for her made her feel all fuzzy and warm.
Verde placed the cooled noodles into his mouth and chewed before swallowing, face clearing into a rather darkly amused look. "...Reborn needs to train his student better if that was the finished product".
The smell of cigarette smoke and sweat mixed in with fish alerted her to Gokudera and Yamamoto's presence.
"Tsuna! Lumie! Morning!"
"Good morning Juudaime!"
"Morning Hayato! Takeshi"
"Morning".
"Maa, that wasn't nice to just ignore Lumie like that Hayato" Yamamoto chided to the Italian.
'Hayato' snarled, hair bristling.
Lumie started walking backwards, smirking. She wasn't going to miss the morning's entertainment. It had quickly become some sort of ritual and like clockwork, every morning when the future rain and storm guardians met, they would get into a fight.
Tsuna had a sort of resigned 'oh my god please stop' expression on his face as he face palmed. He had quickly figured out that the two of them got it on like cats and dogs - at least in the bombers case; Yamamoto was rather obvious to everything - and stopped trying so hard to stop the one sided arguments unless it escalated to the point where dynamite was drawn.
Of course he still tended to freak out whenever Reborn mentioned that Yamamoto was a 'wonderful addition to the family' and a 'natural hitman'. She'd have to work in that.
"STOP CALLING ME THAT!"
"Hahaha~ how about Haya-chan instead?"
"Ha-Haya-chan?!"
"Yup! Haya-chan it is!"
Tsuna tensed as the dynamite came out but the only girl of the group was quick to grab them, easily ignoring the snarling grabby hands of the Italian before he was once more fighting with the newest member of the group, and resume walking by Tsunas side, twirling the bomb sticks between her fingers.
"Just leave them alone Dame-kun. Despite Gokuderas attitude he won't kill Yamamoto, he is part of the group now. Just maim him a bit". That wasn't the least bit reassuring to Tsuna and he resisted the urge to shriek it to the world. Lumie would know, she's seen it plenty if times.
"Real bosses don't let their family fight Dame-Tsuna" Reborn disagreed, popping out of nowhere and this time the brunet did shriek, momentarily distracting the hissing teen and laughing duo a few feet in front.
Tsuna glared as best he could at the father daughter pair and there smirking faces. Looking at them side by side - Reborn resting on his friends shoulder - it would be hard for anyone to refute them being a father daughter pair. That's how much they looked alike.
Now that he thinks about it, if Lumie hadn't had the same glare as her father, Reborns glare would have been even scarier than it was. And that was saying something considering how utterly terrifying it was now.
How Reborn had yet to figure out that Lumie was his daughter Tsuna could not make sense of. Age the infant a bit and the two could pass as twins!
Every time his tutor said he was the best hitman, it took all if Tsunas somewhat considerable will power not to ask if being in observant was part of the description, because Lumie and his familial relation was just short if slapping the other in the face. But he would always abstain; his survival instincts was a lot stronger than any urge to see what look Reborn would have.
"You kno-!" He was interrupted by the hissing/laughing duo in front as there shouts became louder.
Lumie smirked mischievously at the defeated posture of her best friend. That interruption took the fight right out of him.
"So how was spending the night with Dino?" She asked. 'If I remember correctly there's supposed to be a turtle or something.'
The boy gave a dejected sigh. "It was horrible. After dinner I went up to take a bath only to find this huge turtle in the tub and it kept getting bigger! Kaa-san saw it too! Then Dino-san said it was his pet who gets bigger when in water. Who has a monster turtle for a pet?! And then it turns out Dino-san can't do anything without his men present and ended up hitting me with his whip-" he showed her the faint bruise on his cheek. Surprisingly Gokudera wasn't all over this and seething with boiling rage at the don and leaving a mark on 'juudaime', but the mark was so faint that it took even her a second glance to see it. "It still hurts too" he whined, rubbing the mark with a slight pout.
"Pain builds character" She said wisely.
Tsuna deadpanned at her and the amused shine in her green eyes before shaking it off.
"Wiser words have never been said" Reborn commented casually causing Tsuna to jump. The teen had forgotten about the infant being there.
"You hurt Leon's feelings with your cruel words about his son Dame-Tsuna" Reborn pat the drooping chameleon, the very image of sad fury and disappointment, but neither teen was fooled.
Wait a minute.
"How can a lizard gave birth to a turtle?! They have nothing in common!"
'What was the turtles name again? Enzo or something right? Was Enzo made by Leon in the series?' Lumie couldn't remember. Still, Tsuna left himself wide open on this one.
"But they do have something in common" he looked at her expectantly.
"They're both green".
Tsuna face palmed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The sudden screeching of the tires stopped the quarreling duo short.

Lumie and Tsuna paused in what they were doing; her subtle gloating and Tsunas deadpan despair.

"H-hie!" Tsuna screeched as a long whip shot out of the open passenger door and wrapped around him, dragging him. The others didn't have enough time to react as the door slammed shut and the car sped off.

"Juudaime!/Tsuna!"

Gokudera glared at the street as if blaming it for his beloved boss's disappearance before turning back to Reborn. "Reborn-san, someone took Judaime! What are we going to do?"

"This isn't good" the hitman said ominously, fedora shadowing his eyes. Leon clinged to the tip of the hat with his tiny claws, tail dripping.

"Do you know something kid?"

"Aah. That car belonged to the local yakuza, Momokyokai. They must have wanted revenge for what happened at the onsen."

Gokudera clenched his teeth is anger, face setting into a scowl. His fingers twitched with the need for a cigarette or the therapeutic lighting of his loved dynamite or both. "Do you know where they are at?"

"Aah" after telling the two boys the directions Lumie and Reborn watched the two rush off.

"Are you not going to rush off as well?"

Lumie snorted into her hand. "No. I can tell when something is staged."

"Oh?" The infant queried questionably.

The girl smirked, absentmindedly curling a lock of her hair around her finger. "Well, if this was an actual abduction, you wouldn't have just let him get away. Along with being Dame-kun's tutor you also double as a bodyguard correct? If he had been in any real danger you would have prevented him from being abducted." Green eyes flashed, "Am I right?"

Reborn smirked right back. "That's a good theory, but it's not completely right." Lumie tensed, which the infant noticed. "I am Dame-Tsunas primary bodyguard as well as tutor. That means I am to do everything in my power to turn him into a boss worthy of ruling the mafias strongest family. If he can't even escape from a group of nameless nobodies, how can he ever be a good don?"

Ice started creeping up her spine at her father's answer, doubt clouding her judgement for just a second. If this was the case then Tsuna was in danger. It wouldn't be the first thing that's changed from her fading memories.

The reborn teenager shook her head from those thought. Reborn was just trying to cloud her thoughts. She may not be able to fully rely on her memories, but she did have other things at her disposal to help her. And it was these things that were telling her that Reborn was lying, was testing her as well as playing her.

"You're lying. This was staged. I know for certain that it was a whip that had grabbed Tsuna. Coincidently, blondie happened to have a whip attached to his belt yesterday. Tsuna was 'abducted' by Dino." She explained. To her chagrin she couldn't keep her voice steady in relaying the information. "Also, that car had a license plate spelling out 'Bronco'. I can't think of any other family beside the Cavallone that would use something like that".

Reborn was silent for a moment. That was ok, she didn't need him to tell her what she already knows as that same car pulled up next to them.

"Lumie! Reborn!"

Tsuna rushed out, relief visible on his face before he frowned at the lack of Gokudera and Yamamoto.

Already anticipating her friends question Lumie answered "they went to rescue you from the Momokyokai"

Dino sauntered out of the car, his whip placed snugly at his side and with an easy going grin on his face. "Don't worry little bro, it's just some fake yakuza group Reborn made when we thought up this little event. I'm really impressed with smoking bomb and Yamamoto right? They both just rushed right off to save you". He ruffled Tsunas hair. Then he turned towards Lumie. "I'm a bit surprised that you didn't go rushing off yourself" there was no accusation in his tone, just curiosity.

"I am quite capable of telling the difference between an actual kidnapping and a fake" she informed him blandly.

Dino just laughed awkwardly.

Tsuna remained deep in thought. "Momokyokai? I'm pretty sure I've heard of them before" he mused.

"That's because you have. They are the same group that attacked the onsen we were at a little while ago" Lumie informed him in the same bland tone that she had spoken to Dino in.

Tsuna nodded. "Right! That's where I remember them from. Wait...what?! Hiee! Gokudera and Yamamoto went after them!"

The only blond of the group paled. "What? But they were just a fake group Rebo-Reborn!" He groaned in frustration as he realized he had been duped.

The infant didn't even have the curtesy to hide his smug little grin, the little troll!

"Better hurry now if you want to save them".

After that it was a rush to reach the gangs headquarters. And, no surprise, the building was layered with the defeated bodies of the groups various members.

Dino whistled low in appreciation. "You've got some good family members little bro"

"Where's Judaime you bastard!?"

Tsuna jumped a bit and then winced as a body slammed into the ground.

Dino chuckled. "Maybe we should stop them".

After failed negotiations the momokyokai members attacked. They were no match for the line up in the room though, Dino's inability to fight without his men included.

"Hehe...oops. Sorry lil' bro" the blond apologized to Tsuna as he slowly went out of dying would mode. The brunet had a confused look on his face till he remembered the hit too his face.

Gokudera snarled. "How dare you hit Judaime you bastard!" Yamamoto held the struggling bomber from attacking the other.

Lumie casually stepped on the groaning and whimpering members of the group, feeling dark, vindictive satisfaction at the groan the men let loose a she jammed her foot into his spine extra hard. She had not forgotten the attack at the onsen or those filthy, hideous words that they dared to say and the dark memories that had resurfaced in their wake.

She had planned on paying them a little visit in a few days, just to roughen them up and show them whose boss and just how low they were on the food chain but she supposed that this would have to do.

Tsuna, the bleeding heart that he was, would not approve of her little plans of vengeance and she has no qualms about believing that her troll of a father would tell him just to see what she would say.

The reborn teen liked to consider herself fairly independent, someone who doesn't take stalk in what other people say or feel about her and for the most part she's right. However, just the thought of disappointing Dame-kun was enough to stop her somewhat. She still would have went and made there lives a living hell, but they wouldn't be as hurt as she planned. Just traumatized.

When she became friends with him, this wasn't how she expected her actions to change. Actually, she didn't expect him to have this much effect on her at all.

Being around Tsuna was an experience all on its own, and you couldn't help but be changed by it.

"I did try to stop them" Dino sighed when it was all said and done and the Momokyokai laid on the ground in a moaning, heaping mess.

"You can't stop sheer idiocy" Reborn wisely commented, hopping from his place on the windowsill and onto her shoulders.

Yamamoto scratched his head sheepishly. "Maybe we over did it?"

"What are you talking about baseball-idiot? These people thought to challenge Judaime!" Gokudera bristled and glared while simultaneously checking over his boss.

Yamamoto just laughed.

"Still, we should call the paramedics right? They look like they are in a lot of pain". Tsuna suggested it's a worried frown while enduring Gokudera's mother henning.

Lumie just shook her head at his words. He never changed.

"Hey Takeshi, how's your shoulder?" He got clipped by one if their pipes in a lucky shot.

He gave her a confused look before realization dawned. "Maa, I'm ok Lumie-chan" he waved off flexing his shoulder to show the truth of his statement.

Tsuna went from mostly calm to panicking as he hurried to the baseball player's side despite reassurances that he was fine, Gokudera following with scowl that -surprisingly- looked the slightest bit worried.

Dino came to stand beside her. "I'm surprised".

Lumie ignored him.

He continued on. "When you didn't rush off after him when I staged Tsunas abduction, I didn't think you were good enough to be in his circle". He broke out into a smile, "I was wrong".

"Like I said, I'm not an idiot. I can tell a fake kidnapping from a real one". Reborn huffed lightly into her hair and Dino laughed good naturedly.

"I like you Taiyou!"

Lumiere felt blindsided. His smile was just like Tsuna's; bright and beautiful. And like when she first met her best friend, she couldn't help but feel drawn in.

After a moments pause she got her bearings back together. "You're not too bad...for an idiot" she teased with a grin.

Now that the comparison between the two were made, she felt a little bit more comfortable around the blond.

It was Dino's turn to pause in surprise before a dark, red flush went from his ears to his neck.

Lumie just blinked at the reaction before shrugging and walking over to the others. The bronco, she decided, was weird.

Reborn smirked amusedly as his older student blushed at Taiyou's retreating form.

He wasn't surprised when the girl didn't act on his false information like the other two did. Taiyou, from what he could tell, was a rather methodical person who thought before acting -though he did get the feeling that she could be rather impulsive in certain situations. She was also rather blunt.

Something that his blond student seemed to appreciate. Reborn wasn't sure if he should encourage it -as it would be so very amusing to watch Dino be so flabbergasted and awkward at his response- or discourage it since just the thought of the two together made him distinctly uncomfortable.

His reactions to things like that were just getting plain ridiculous.

"She reminds me of you" Dino said out of the blue.

Reborn remained silent.

Ever since he had accepted his position as the Cavallone boss, Dino has always thought him and Reborn were close. It wasn't a very hard assumption to make, when Leon had given him his whip and Enzo, the blonde would like to think that he had seen a modicum of pride in his teachers otherwise emotionless black eyes. Plus, Reborn didn't hit him as often.

He thought they were close, if not as friends then as teacher and student, and that was a bond that Dino would never break or betray.

Which is why Reborn's silence hurt.

Dino didn't think he asked for much, and he's given plenty of opportunities for the hitman to tell him, but every moment where the infant doesn't come out and tell him that that girl is his daughter feels like a knife in his chest.

How could Reborn not tell him about her? He could keep a secret, and in case anything ever went wrong -which is highly unlikely considering who he was dealing with- Dino could offer support.

...did the Nono know? Heck, did Iemitsu know? Was that why he has his family living here, in this small, ordinary town? Because Reborn would have protections in place for his daughter, protections that the elder blond would use for his wife and son?

The Cavallone don didn't know.

One thing was for sure, even if Reborn wouldn't tell him anything about Taiyou, Dino would get to know her. Even if she did make a mockery of his and his men -he was used to Reborn doing it- or taking whatever sadistic tendencies she inherited out on him -Reborn made his life hell when he lived with him- or even buying her food or whatever else she wanted -again, Reborn, enough said.

...besides...she had a nice smile.

Tsuna was feeling a concoction of emotion. He was mad at Reborn, and to a lesser extent Dino over there kidnapping attempt. Relieved that beside a few shallow scratches (on his and Dino's part) and slight bruises (on Yamamoto's part) that no one was hurt and that everyone made it out alright. Embarrassed that they reacted due to his 'kidnapping while also slightly pissed that they would endanger themselves for that reason. Worried about his accused would be kidnappers. And finally confused from the strange feeling he had over his new older brother's reaction to Lumie's teasing.

The last one really confused him. So he did what he always did and shoved it to the back of his mind.

"I think this is enough adventure for one day don't you Dame-kun? Hayato? Takeshi?"

Gokudera, as expected bristled at her nickname for him and using his first name with a dark scowl. Strangely enough he didn't protest it like he did earlier.

Tsuna smiled slightly. He enjoyed that his friends were getting along.

"Now that that's over, how about we go do something fun? After we call somebody to help them of course" he suggested brightly.

The warm, gooey and bright feeling in his chest expanded as they all agreed.

He felt like he was forgetting something though, and Lumie's smirk was not reassuring him at all.

"Herbivores".

Tsuna felt himself pale rapidly, his heart stopping and body starting to shake.

Yamamoto turned pale, his dark brown eyes even more vacant against his paler skin.

Gokudera twitched then froze, his body trying to prepare himself for the newest threat but remembering his previous experience at the others tonfa.

And Lumie, crazy, sadistic Lumie, smirked like she won the lottery.

Oh...so that's what he was forgetting.

"For being late to school you shall be bitten to death. Daring to skip school, possession of unauthorized weapons-" Tsuna couldn't help but glare at Lumie for flaunting her gun tauntingly, "-and fighting I shall bite you to death!"

Really, just why?

End Chapter

Lunchtime Disaster

Tsuna was far from perfect. His test scores, clumsiness, shyness and other things that made him the perfect target for bullies attested to that.

Which is why he was so grateful, so blessed to have found friends like he had. In Lumie, the popular transfer student who was both smart and pretty and had the whole school -sans Hibari-senpai, though even that was debatable- under her thumb. Gokudera who was also a transfer student who blazed through the school like a storm and creating a place for himself effortlessly, who was just as smart as Lumie and just so loyal, even to someone like him. Yamamoto whose genuine smiles and laid back, go with the flow attitude brightened his days. Lambo, who had quickly become like a little brother to him made him laugh and sigh at how childish he was. How nii-san's attitude and general outlook on life brightened his days, even if he did so a bit too extreme. And even Hibari, who had crept up from out of nowhere and sneaked in while just as quickly leaving ever staying too long yet always leaving an impression.

Yes, Tsuna was blessed. How else could he explain these interesting, bright and truly captivating people taking an interest in him and staying?

In that respect Tsuna should be grateful and not do anything that could ever jeopardize those bonds.

However, Tsuna was far from perfect.

"Ne, Lumie"

The only girl in the group, who coincidently was the only one who lacked any scrapes or bruises from Hibari's biting, glanced back at him from where she was cheerfully leading.

Tsuna retrieved a small bento from his until now forgotten bag and threw it.

"I thought that since you missed dinner last night you might want some".

Seeing the way his friends eyes gleamed in awe at the small yellow package almost made Tsuna feel guilty. Almost.

Lunch time.

Lumie gleefully took a bite of Tsunas wonderfully crafted and exquisitely smelling food.

Only to spit it back out, shock and disgust in her face at the horrible, and more importantly, sour taste.

She took big gulps of water while glaring at a sheepishly grinning Tsuna.

Gokudera was bristling at her for daring to spit out his Judaime's food and simultaneously nervously glancing at the bento his boss had given him. The bomber did not forget that his elder sister who was known for turning any food in her vicinity poisonous, lived at the Sawada residence.

Yamamoto just kind of blinked in shock before his trademark smile appeared. "Maa, Lumie you should chew before you swallow" he advised.

Lumie glared at him through glassy glaring eyes filled with wrath before turning her attention to the source of her ire.

"What was that?" She demanded softly, dangerously.

"Revenge for making me cook last night" Tsuna retorted flatly. "I didn't have enough time to finish my homework and Reborn made me stay up until three to finish it".

Gokudera lost the constipated look on his face and started glaring at her for making Tsuna cook.

She didn't care. Nobody, and she does mean nobody, messes with her food.

Too many people have already done that.

Giving one last distasteful glance at the still wonderful smelling but disgusting tasting food she packed her bright yellow bento away and stood up slowly, a menacing air growing around her and her long, ebony black hair she left loose shadowing her face.

The source of her ire paled before gulping nervously. He glanced to the other two male members of the group but found no hope in Yamamoto while a tentative hope riddled with tension at Gokudera, who already had his beloved dynamite in his hands.

"Hiiiee! Gokudera don't use those!" Tsuna grabbed both of the Italians hands to stop him but Gokudera wouldn't listen.

"Don't try to stop me Juudaime! She needs to be taught a lesson!"

Lumie tilted her head to the side and Tsuna froze. He's never seen her with such a terrifying expression on her face before.

"Hoh?" She sounded tauntingly.

Gokudera snarled and took a step. In the next second, and faster than the two other boys could see, she tripped the silveret, elbowed him in the back as he was going down, stunning him, snatched his food that he left unprotected, and then casually sat down on his still stunned form.

Tsuna and Yamamoto stared in amazement.

Lumie just smirked, grabbed her still unpacked chopsticks and dug into the bombers food.

She hated sour food with a passion!

When Her father hopped onto her shoulder she offered him a bite which he accepted, patting her on the head with pride and a light scolding of "bosses always treat women with respect" at Tsuna.

The boys just continued to stare.

Nana's Whimsies

She was just so tired of it. Sick of it really. It was one thing to call her friend Dame-kun like she did. Lumie was trying to get Tsuna to not flinch whenever someone called him Dame-Tsuna. And she knows that people still call him Dame-Tsuna. It was an ingrained habit that's become instinctual over the years. Her coming along and beating down the bullies, glaring at those few who say it that weren't bullies amount other things.

Tsuna gets enough crap at school from the idiots that learn there.

He doesn't need that at home.

Which is why it just pisses her off, makes her go silent with rage and concentrated disgust whenever she hears that lame excuse for a mother call Tsuna, her son, useless.

That's why she was going to set the record straight. Dame-kun was at school which she had decided to skip so he wouldn't be here to run interference.

Aggravatingly enough, whenever she had started to think about confronting Nana Tsuna was always there to distract her; whether it was by suggesting something or doing something so stupid that it deserved some good, hard punishment, he had always managed to save his mother from a good talking too.

But not today.

When she arrived at the Sawada residence the only female member of the family was in the kitchen, swaying her hips from side to side and humming a song under her breath as she chopped various vegetables for dinner.

"Oh! Lumie-chan? What are you doing here" she asked when she turned around, guiles smile on her face.

"I was just in the neighborhood and decided to stop by".

Nana clapped her hands excitedly. "So you decided to visit? That's so sweet~! Thank you for keeping me company~ I get so lonely without Tsu-Kun around. Lamborghini and I-pin went to the park to play so I don't have anyone here right now. Would you like some tea?"

Lumie nodded slowly.

When they were sitting down at the table, tea served and cooling in their cups and a plate of cookies in the middle, Lumie asked "Ne, Sawada-san".

Nana glanced up from her tea with a bright smile. "Yes?"

"Why do you call your son useless?"

Nana didn't even pause. "Hmm, why do I call my Tsu-kun that? It's to encourage him" she chirped.

The teen was taken a back. "What?"

The Sawada matriarch nodes her head with an even brighter smile the before if that was possible. "I tell him that so that he would work to get better so that I won't call him that. Tsu-kun can be so difficult" she pouted. "I had to take desperate steps so that he could look forward to each day. I read something in a book about how if you said something that you didn't mean, but said it anyway to try and make the other person work against it. I thought that it would be perfect to try for Tsu-kun. I think it was called reverse psychology?"

'I don't think that's how reverse psychology works'

Then Nana reached over and gripped her lax hands, stars in her eyes. "Then you came and it was a miracle! Tsu-kun started to smile more, his grades started to rise, and he gained more friends. I had asked for a miracle and then you came!"

Lumie...did not know what to say to that. Or think for that matter.

"I have everything I wished for when you came in regards to Tsu-kun. Now~" Nana brought her face close to Lumie's, her smile morphing into something that made pitfalls in her stomach. "We just have to get you and Tsu-kun married and give me a gaggle of grandchildren and my life will be complete~!"

...'What?'

AN: Hey guys, I know it's been a while. Sorry for the long wait, things came up and RL took precedence. Moms been in and out of the hospital, school and we just recently moved. I've been spending the past few months packing and now unpacking. 😑 This has been sitting on my phone for a while since I couldn't post it without Internet.

Originally this was supposed to be longer and the part with Dino was only to be a part, but I decided it was long enough to stop it here. I don't know when I will be able to update again.

Like always all mistakes are mine. When I was writing this my phones stupid auto-correct kept changing my "on" to "in" and my "of" to "if" and vice versa so if you see any I apologize and could you please tell me. I think I got them all but I know how this goes and it turns out that I missed a lot. Please and thanks :3

Hope you like Dino's reaction, it was my favorite part of this entire chapter. He's a lot of fun to write when he's freaking out~.

I'm having a hard time writing in the other characters T.T I need to work on it.

Fox Kit Princess: I'm glad you enjoyed the story~ I usually don't split chapters in half because of the long wait for the next chapter. As for Tsuna learning that he likes Lumie, well, that's a long time away, but I have a plan for it and it's going to be great. Thanks for commenting~❤️

Guest (1): Thanks so much for the rec~ I haven't seen that one before and can't wait to read it. Thanks for commenting~❤️

Guest (2): Thank you for the rec~ I haven't read this one either so I'll definitely have a look at it. Thanks for commenting~❤️

Khr junkie: I'm so happy you loved this~ it makes me so incredibly happy~! I love it when people tell me they enjoyed it~! And I so do have plans for when Mukuro joins up. Poor Tsuna is going to have a heart attack when he endures him and Lumie together, Kufufufu~ Thanks for commenting~❤️

CryingMoonLight: lol~ I'm glad you enjoyed this. Kyoko and Takeshi as if this moment are not a planned pairing. I just thought I would throw it out there as a potential, so it really depends on how people react to it and how everything is going to go. As for why Yamamoto really wasn't featured before this part, well it's partly because Lumie had the idea of not changing too much and also because she was more concentrated on Tsuna then anything else. He did have a small part though. Thanks for commenting~❤️

awesome: I'm so glad you liked it~ here's the next chapter~ hope you enjoyed it~! Thanks for commenting~❤️

Grminirose: Yup~ Rose has a connection to the mafia and it's going to play with a minor or major role in future chapters :3 she never knew about it though. I hope Dino's reaction was everything you thought of and more :3 Thanks for commenting~❤️

Kzen: Yamamoto and Kyoko aren't a done pairing so there is a chance that him and Chrome can get together. Depends on what everyone else likes more and what will work with the story :3 I'm glad you liked the chapter~ :3 Thanks for commenting~❤️

Have any of you guys read the Gamer fics that have been popping up for KHR? I really want to see one with Gamer!Reborn. Everyday he lets the day play out, doesn't save, then redoes the day knowing what everyone's going to do, giving him the appearance of reading minds and always knowing everything. Heck, it could have helped him achieve his title as greatest hitman. Every time he does he would know where the sniper that tries to kill him or what traps his Hits have set so that he can later just breeze in through. I would love to see a fic like this~!

Major AN: So, I completed this chapter a long time ago, as some of you know and I pretty much wrote out in the beginning of my AN. This is a new one, written today. A lot of shit both online and on in my real life. A while back I was alerted that someone had plagiarized my work and was posting it as their own on another website. Thankfully it has been taken down, so I just want to thank all of you that helped and alerted me to what was going on because the last two years have been very rough and I really have not had the time to be on the internet except a few moments here and there.

Two years ago, my mother got really sick. I dropped out of school, started working two jobs so we could afford her hospital and more importantly medicine bills. We gave up a lot of stuff we didn't need – the internet being one of them – sold our house and moved states to where my uncle could help us. Things were better for a few months and then she started getting worse. At the beginning of 2016 she was going in and out of the hospital every two weeks because she had a heart attack. In August, her cardiologist decided that it was time for her to have another open heart surgery. She passed away the next morning. I have not really been in the best of places since then.

I want to say thank you to everyone that PM'ed me over these past two years asking if I was alright, giving me well wishes, hoping that everything in my life was ok and that when I was ready they would be waiting. However, to those of you who were rude, downright hateful that I had not updated in so long, well screw you. Real life is a hell of a lot more important and I have had a crap ton happen these past couple of years.

This is also a heads up that this story is officially on hold. I started Unknown Sun when my mom first went into the hospital with heart problems as an outlet. I'm trying to bounce back up but writing this fic is bringing up bad memories so it will be a while before I feel up to writing this again.

That is all I wanted to say. Thanks for reading this after it has been so long.
