"Do you ever regret it?" he asks one day as they're getting ready to travel forward from fixing yet another broken system.

Her blue eyes cast a sideways glance at him from underneath her light blue bangs. "Regret what?" she asks, wondering what's brought on his most recent mood, not that he needs a reason to be in a bad mood any longer. She knows he'll never be happy again until they find Mainframe, Dot, and Bob. She can't blame him; they are, after all, his family.

"Regret leaving your game and coming with me, getting stuck game hopping."

"No."

She doesn't have to have a nanosecond to think about it; the answer is as clear to her as her internal cycle. She realizes he needs more and turns quickly, blocking his traveling footsteps. He looks up, and in his one good eye, she sees again the terrified, little boy with whom she first fell in love.

"Enzo," she starts, but he growls, "Matrix."

"Enzo, Matrix, you," she persists, cupping his handsome face in her hands and forcing him to meet her gaze. "I love you. What I had in that game was not life. You've given me everything I cherish."

Her eyes harden for a moment as she remembers the boredom of that game and what had passed for her life back then. "I was alone. I had no real life. I had no friends, no family. I had nothing. I wanted to travel from that game worst than anything else, and then you showed up."

She smiles at the memory of that boy so full of joyful exuberance. "You were the most interesting thing I had ever seen. I knew, finally, I could have a friend. I could have a life. You gave me that and so much more."

"We're going to get back to Mainframe, Enzo. We're going to get our family back. Don't you ever doubt that, and don't you ever doubt, either, that there's anywhere else I'd rather be than right here with you, even if it is traveling nonstop from game to game. If you haven't figured it out yet, I love you, you big lug."

Matrix's cheeks darken; AndrAla smiles as he blushes. "Sorry."

"There's no need to be sorry. Just don't you forget any of that for even a nanosecond." She's kissing him, Frisket barking joyfully, when the new game lands over them.

The End
