Once not too long ago, there was a young man who was all alone in a big, big house

A light blue paper was innocuously posted on the university's ad bulletin, lined up with hundreds of its kind, in all varying sizes and colors. Unlike the others, there were only a few words written on it, in black and bold letters. There was nothing special about it but this particular piece had the sole attention of one young man named Kuroko Tetsuya.

"Wanted: Roommates", was written on it.

Kuroko was staring intently at the colored paper, in deep contemplation of whether to remove his ad or not. For the weeks that it had been up there, he had not receive any replies nor was there any indication that someone was interested. It would be wasteful and impractical to keep it there, since someone who has a more profitable venture than Kuroko's roommate gig could use the space. He wasn't really in it for the money; it was just, ever since his best friend left for the States, he started feeling a little lonely. He felt that his house was too big for him, even if he had been used to being all alone before he met his current circle of friends.

"There's always Kagami-kun's messages and Nigou for company," Kuroko told himself. Besides, if he really, really got melancholic to the point he was considering making a plush toy for his best friend, he could always brush up on his English skills, fly away to America and harass Kagami into going back to Japan with threats of wolves and very large dogs. It was a nice thought, even though Kuroko wouldn't be able to do that; he couldn't muster enough selfishness to do that.

He was about to remove it when the thought of just another day entered his mind. One day more wouldn't hurt anyone and surely come tomorrow, he would remove his ad. Someone might notice and if not, there was America and plushie dolls as back-up plans. He hoped he wouldn't have to resort to the latter, for his own sanity's sake.

With that and hope in his heart, Kuroko went home, passing by at his favorite fast food restaurant to get his beloved vanilla milk shake. Everything vanilla was a great mood lifter.

Somewhere in the near future, Kuroko Tetsuya will look back to this specific day and will ask himself if he made the right decision of keeping that paper up there.

::

Tomorrow came without any response. Kuroko felt stupid for being too optimistic, too hopeful that he would be able to have at least one person interested. Sometimes, having a positive outlook in things didn't help you get the things you want. Dejected, the young man picked the board pins one by one, neatly folding the paper in fours. He was about to put his ad in his messenger bag when a strong gust suddenly tore it away.

The wind playfully blew the paper, toying with Kuroko, letting the item drop low in a hand's reach only to let it fly upwards. Kuroko ran after it, frustrated although it didn't show in his face. After a few minutes, the young man realized that chasing it was a futile attempt. He watched as it floated higher and higher, until it disappeared behind the clouds, farther into the blue sky. Kuroko took that as a sign; it just wasn't meant to be.

::

And thus, young Kuroko Tetsuya's fate was sealed by a piece of a flying blue paper.

This is my first KnB fic and I'm kinda nervous since the first chapter is short and all. The succeeding chapters will be longer, for sure.

Please, do tell me what you think :)
