Title: Letting Go
Fandom:
Grey's Anatomy
Pairings:
Calzona, sort of.
Rating:
K+
Spoilers:
Yes, the finale.
Summary:
Callie took a shuddering breath and shuffled a step forward, lowering her eyes down to the ring that circled her left ring finger. Without saying a word, Callie twisted the ring to get it off. The band was snug around her finger, fitting comfortably around her skin. Her dark eyes blurred with tears as the ring finally gave to her tugging and twisting and let go. *Shuddering is now fixed, sorry about that, I guess I missed that in my read through*
Author's Note: This is a continuation of the scene where Arizona and Callie were fighting and what I kind of want to happen.
Disclaimer:
I own nothing.

They stood silent, staring at each other as the sound of the rain pattered on the windows behind Callie. There were no more words left to say. Callie took a shuddering breath and shuffled a step forward, lowering her eyes down to the ring that circled her left ring finger. The ring Arizona slipped on and promised her forever with, the ring that was now tainted.

Without saying a word, Callie twisted the ring to get it off. The band was snug around her finger, fitting comfortably around her skin. Her dark eyes blurred with tears as the ring finally gave to her tugging and twisting and let go.

Letting go.

That's what she was doing, letting Arizona go because she wasn't happy anymore. Neither of them were happy and it would be best for all to just…let go.

Callie held the ring between her index finger and thumb, looking at it as if it had all the answers. Could it tell her why saving her wife's life was a bad thing? Could it tell her why her best friend and Father of her child died? Or why Lexie died? Or why that stupid plane crashed in the first place? Could it answer why?

"No." Callie whispered and stepped forward again. Gently she leaned down and placed the ring on the cot that was between her and the love of her life. Her fingers lingered a bit, not wanting to let go, but knowing that it was the best decision for her and her wi- ex-wife and their daughter. Straightening her back, Callie looked just past Arizona's head, trying not to see the devastation and anger on her pale features. "I'm going to go home and pack Sofia up. We'll stay at Mark's apartment until we can find somewhere else to live."

Callie nodded more to herself then to Arizona and started to walk out of the room when the other woman's voice stopped her. "You can't take her from me. Sofia is my daughter, Callie, and you can't take her."

She stopped in her tracks and closed her eyes to stop the gathering of tears from streaking down her cheeks. "I wasn't planning on it." She said in a low tone. "I'll call the lawyer tomorrow to draw up custody papers. I just don't want to be alone tonight."

"And you think I do?"

"I assumed you wouldn't be." Callie bit, regretting the barb as soon as she heard the sharp intake of air from Arizona. "Goodnight, Arizona." She stepped from the room and walked down the halls of her second home, trying to pretend her heart wasn't breaking and her life wasn't shattering down around her.

Because she was letting go and right now that was all she could do.

Let go.
