Back at the headquarters, tension was rising. L had ordered a full autopsy of Akira's body and also a full sweep of the prison and it's guards to identify any possible leaks or connections to the other Kira. It was just as well that they didn't take the boys with them. Now, two days later, nearly midnight, they were still waiting for results from the forensics. For some reason, they were working a lot slower than usual. Maybe it was the fear that Kira would kill them next or maybe they were just overworked. Whatever the reason, they had to hurry the hell up.

Matt squeezed cold water onto Near's forehead. 'Does that help?' he asked, looking down at the albino. Next to him lay Mello, whose forehead was also burning hot. Man flu had struck again.

'Matt...' Mello whined, closing his eyes. 'Everything hurts...'

The redhead turned and wet his cloth again to squeeze water on Mello's forehead. The two of them were tucked up in their bed. It was only now that Matt realised the size difference in Mello and Near. Near looked almost like a baby, curled into a ball under the covers, his face buried into his knees. He hadn't complained once since he came down with the flu, but you could tell just how I'll he was. His usually pale skin was tinted pink and shrouded in a cold sweat. Whilst his forehead burned, his body shivered relentlessly. Mello was the complete opposite. Loud and whiney, stretched out on the bed. His skin was almost icy to touch and yet he complained that he was overheating. His forehead blazed just like Near's though. Near lifted his head from his knees. 'Matt, have you seen Albert anywhere?' Albert was a beige teddy bear with a tie and glasses that Near had had since he was tiny; a gift from Watari. Unsurprisingly, he'd named it after Albert Einstein, simply because they both had white hair.

Matt smiled and scanned the room. He was so used to this, it was a skill essential for gaming. He quickly pinpointed the teddy bear and brought it to Near. 'Thanks...' he whispered and drew the bear close to him. Possibly one of the cutest things Matt had ever seen. You could tell that there was definitely something wrong with Mello, he didn't feel like eating chocolate.

'Mello, do you want a hot drink? It might help you feel better?' Matt suggested, sitting on the edge of the bed. He didn't bother asking Near because he already knew the answer. He took white tea with 1 sugar. Mello returned with a grunt. His eyes were closed and he didn't feel like opening them again. The redhead laughed. He was so lucky to have his boyfriends. Sure they were needy and opinionated, but they were perfect to Matt. He was never without them, even in his dreams they were with him. He turned to the kettle, which he had no idea how to work. Near was the one to talk to when it came to cooking, the others (including L) had no idea whatsoever. Here goes nothing... He thought, and flicked the switch, expecting the kettle to explode and spontaneously combust. Surprisingly, it didn't. Damn he must of been having a good day then. 3 attempts later, the drinks were made and he returned to the bedroom with them. He had several burns on his hands from that stupid hot water. It didn't have any instructions saying that water was so dangerous!

'I made drinks!' He announced proudly, setting them on the table before turning around. Near was curled up in Mello's arms, their legs tangled, fast asleep. He simply smiled from the irony of it all and sat in the armchair beside the bed, watching them affectionately before falling asleep himself.

Meanwhile, Light had just woken up in a panic. L wasn't yet asleep so he noticed the changes in breathing and when Light began to thrash about he woke him up. He sat up straight away, eyes snapping open. His breaths were short and frenzied and he wore a look of panic. L sat up, eyes full of concern. 'What's wrong?' he asked, putting an hand on Light's shoulder.

'A dream...' Light panted, beginning to calm down. 'A monster called Ryuk... No wait, not a monster. A god. A death god... ' Light raised a hand to his head, which was throbbing so hard that he thought it might explode. The detective pulled him into a tight embrace, wrapping his arms tightly around him. 'It's okay, it's just a dream...' he offered, although there was something suspicious about this.

Light shook his head but didn't reply. 'What did he say?'

'I... I don't about murder. And the Death Note.' His voice was beginning to settle down and his breathing became regular again. L pulled away and planted a kiss on Light's forehead. 'Hey, how about we both keep a dream log so we can monitor our dreams? It might help get to the bottom of it.' The detective suggested. The real reason was because it involved the Death Note and Light was the previous Kira. It wasn't that he was gathering evidence to apprehend him but completely the opposite. Maybe if they unlocked the secrets of the Death Note then they could prevent Kira from resurfacing. Light nodded, smiling briefly. His hand snakes his way to L's crotch, and which was covered only by a pair of black boxers. 'How about we...' He started, his voice suggestive. 'No.' L interjected, his tone gentle but firm. 'Not tonight. You'll regret it in the morning.'

Light smiled softly. 'Yeah... Will you hold me?' No more words were spoken between them that night, L held Light until he'd fallen fast asleep.

At 3am, L slipped out of bed, being careful not to wake Light. He began climbing the staircases of the headquarters, popping his head into the trio's room as he went. Matt was fast asleep in the armchair, a smile on his face. Mello and Near were curled up together in the bed, Mello's face buried in the albino's hair. He smiled and continued up the stairs, to the highest room in the building. That was Watari's quarters, which consisted of a he'll of a lot of computers and a bed in the corner. The old man was sitting before the computers, doing some work. Typical for Watari, it was like he never slept or tired. A great feature for a full time assistant, if you asked L. He looked up when he noticed L come in, propping his glasses up. 'Good evening,' he said, shutting his file down. If it was anyone else, L would have corrected them that it was actually morning, but he respected Watari more than anyone else. 'I need your help,' the detective admitted, sitting down in a chair beside him.

'Light's had a dream, concerning the Death Note, involving a god of death; a shinigami. I think it may be some of his past experiences of being Kira resurfacing. We need to prevent that at all costs.' He said it quickly, trying to get it over and done with. Saying it made it seem all to real.

Watari thought for a while before replying. 'How many dreams has he had?'

'Just one,'

'My advice is that you observe for a few days to see if it happens again. It could just be a one-off.'

L relaxed a little. 'I hope so,' he confided, running a hand through his hair.

'In the mean time, we'll lock the Death Note away. I'll make the phone calls right away.' Watari said, reaching for the phone, but L caught his arm. 'It's okay, it's can wait until the morning.'

The old man blinked in confusion but lowered his arm. 'Right.'

'I'm going to go back to bed now, thanks Watari.' L smiled, standing up and walking away.

Once out of earshot, Watari shut down the computer but left the surveillance cameras on. 'Me too...' And put his pyjamas back on, the ones that had been tossed hastily under the bed. An alarm sounded whenever someone was on their way up the stairs to his room, alerting him that he was needed. Only L ever came up, so he got up and dressed whenever he was woken up. He climbed into bed, and shut his eyes.

L returned to find Light hyper ventilating again. This time, his eyes were blood shot and his whole body shook. He was furiously trying to scribble in a book, the notepad that L had left for him to record his dreams in. He looked up in desperation. 'Where were you?' He whispered, before passing out. L checked his pulse and put him in the recovery position before reading what was written.

I saw a hooded man with Ryuk, the shinigami in a train station. He was talking to a secret agent, telling him how he would kill all of these criminals. A man in a nearby shop collapsed and died. He said that if the agent didn't do what he said, he'd kill him.

The agent he was talking about sounded suspiciously like Raye Penber, the American agent that was killed in a train station by Kira. Was this another one of Kira's memories? And there was Ryuk again, the shinigami... Something was definitely wrong... L climbed back into bed and put his arms around Light. 'Don't you dare become Kira again. I need you. I wouldn't be able to stop you, I couldn't do it... Please, stay innocent Light. Please don't let Kira resurface...'
