Cato POV

My mind was in a poisonous fog when I felt the familiar yet not Peeta's lips upon mine. The taste was more of a venom trying to seduce me, but knew it was failing. I hated the feeling and quickly pushed him off of me. Jackson hit the floor with a thud and wasn't able to get up. I rushed over to Peeta who pulled me into a kiss with tears rolling in between our lips. We both knew we didn't have much time to find the door before Jackson got back up and make-up. We ran in both the bedrooms we had woken up in, just in case we had missed something. To Jackson we must have looked like crazy chickens running with their heads cut off, however for us, it was survival.

I ran over back into the living room and realized the only other living person in here who knew where the exit was, was Jackson. I pulled Jack up by his collared shirt and slapped the goddamn smirk off of his godforsaken face. He should get the beating of a lifetime for putting us through this shit. We were supposed to have a normal break with drinking, walking on the beach, and dinner by the pier. Apparently, I'm not allowed to be the content, loving boyfriend with an innocent and adorable boyfriend next to me. All my anger started building up inside of me because each emotion I was feeling at once came crashing down. All the years I had held up each feeling of anger toward my father, disappointment in society, and hate against those who couldn't seem to leave Peeta and me alone, all flowed out like Niagra Falls.

I had let it all slip out and in one shot felt instantly better. Each hit was precise on where he was to be hit without internal injuries, yet it had enough force behind it to cause severe agony. I could hear the bones cracking underneath my fists as they collided into that nasty smug look on his face. I couldn't find the mercy to stop because I knew if I hadn't won this battle, then it would continue, then the teasing and looks would all continue. The idea of finally doing this to Jackson was exhilarating and was slowly blacking out my vision of reality till I no longer had control. Stopping for a moment, I felt a familiar pull, but couldn't quite place it. I thought it had to be Jackson trying to stop me with what little life he had left, so I threw him off of me and onto the ground.

Peeta POV

I was simply shocked and out of breath. I was running around my room searching every nook and cranny for a secret passage or door after Cato lustfully kissed me. I knew it was the Mania of Cato's bipolar disorder because every other time it had been a soft, caring. On the fortunate side, I found a wine and cheese cellar, so we wouldn't die of starvation, but we could die of malnutrition. I continuously searched for anything I could have overlooked and felt like Sherlock Holmes. Every detail had to be looked for a chance at our survival. I couldn't find anything in mine, so I decided to go and check on how Cato was doing on the search as I was doing my final sweep when I had heard the familiar sound of bone-breaking punches and grunts of frustration. I quickly ran in thinking that Jackson had gotten back up and started on the fight with Cato.

How wrong could I have been.

The blood was spilling onto the floor from Jack's nose and mouth at the same time it was staining Cato's knuckles. I could no longer tell if Jackson was still barely alive and holding onto the last centimeter of his life, or gone from the realm of the living. The punches ensued and became rapid fire the longer as time passed. I ran over to his side trying to coax him out of this horrifying trance with soothing words that usually worked. He stopped for a moment, stood up, and looked me in the eyes, letting me think that I had accomplished calming him. I then placed a hand on top of his shoulder, wheedling him to talk to me. At the moment he opened his mouth, I smiled in the idea that I was the only one that could bring him back to reality. I swung my arms around his neck and hugged him tightly as he slowly wrapped his arms around my waist.

3rd Person POV

The couple stayed in the embrace for a few minutes as Jackson was recomposing himself. The moment they let go it felt as if things were finally going back to normal. After this catastrophe, they could go back to the beach and actually have a relaxing time hanging with friends. It was quite the short lived joyous moment and then ended with a pained hiss from Jackson. The two blondes turned to stare at the raven haired man sprawled out on the floor with much blood dribbling down his chin and a menacing, pained expression.

"It's sickeningly cute the way you two love each other. So much love in an atmosphere can't last that long. One day, sometime soon, the love dwindles down and there's nothing you can do to prevent it. It's inevitable, the real question is, 'What will happen to the golden couple when they hit college and the wider variety is there?' You two already can't really go a day apart without the other and when you have classes and everything else apart along with new friends, the walls will start crumbling down. I will be there to see it happen and when I do, you can bet I'll be the one to bask in the gloriousness of the suffering. Then, Peeta can tell me what it feels like to be replaced by someone supposedly better than you." Cato strided towards the practically broken man and crouched down to whisper in his ears.

"I never dumped you. I tried to make it work whereas you just left me on the sidelines to pick up the broken pieces for three years. You were never replaced and still aren't. I admit there is still a small part of me that missed the kisses and love between us, but you changed completely. I fell for the one that could show that love in one glance or in the way you held my hand. What ever happened to you?" Cato leaned out of the closeness till Jackson started to speak.

"I fell for you. I fell long and hard and found myself becoming scared of what was happening. When you showed fear from your dad and just gave up on the fight I wondered what would happen if we were to get into a fight that big. If you would leave me over an argument or get scared and run off. Leaving you was the worst decision that I made to this day."

With those words Cato had to question that one moment in his life where he felt completely useless and lost without Jackson by his side. Those three miserable years where he would find stranger to fuck and dump just because he wanted everyone to feel the same pain and sorrow he felt constantly. Admittingly, he thought Peeta was going to be one of those ones too when he first saw him. The innocence and happiness he saw in the guy, reminded him of those days he looked like that with Jackson. However, the longer he stayed with him, the longer Peeta grew on him. Every time he looks into those gorgeous blue eyes, he can't simply imagine putting him through the pain. Unfortunately, that's what he ended up doing in this very moment. Cato stood back up to face Peeta who was standing there with a completely unreadable face.

The two walked toward each other and stood face to chest. Peeta looked up and pained Cato because all he could see was the deep sadness festering inside of him.

"I love you Cato, and this past year was amazing. You gave me forever within numbered days and I'm really grateful. I don't want you to feel like you're trapped with me when you're off in college. I'll be Okay. If fate decides that we are compatible then we will get back together when I come up. For now though, you can just give me a call and tell me what college is like and I'll come visit. So, I guess to make it official, Cato, I'm breaking up with you. I will wait for you Always." Cato stood stunned as he tried to digest the words he was left with. He tightly hugged Peeta and kissed the top of his forehead.

"Always Peeta, Always." Cato gave Peeta one last kiss before they went back for the last time searching for the door. It made them feel like idiots how they didn't see it in the first place when just blended in with the floor boards. Seriously, after all the scary movies they had watched together, that should have been the one thing they searched for. They started down the ever lasting, dark tunnel to their freedom with Cato carrying Jackson by Peeta's order. Peeta was too compassionate for his own good at times, but that was one of the qualities that kept Cato so involved because it was one quality he didn't have.

On the way to freedom, they ran into the regular spiders, snakes, and rats that were to be expected, but that didn't keep Peeta's heart from jumping out of his chest he saw one. It seemed like at least an hour that they were walking till they found a ladder leading up to where they hoped was the surface. Peeta went up first which Cato couldn't complain on since he was carrying his two time ex and got a nice view out of it. All those times of throwing hundred pound sacks at the family finally paid off. The lid slowly slid off and the sunlight poured in, blinding them.

Now back on the surface, they found them a few miles from the beach they had been at prior to abduction by a crazy ex. They continued trudging on back to the beach where they had last seen their friends. The volleyball pit was trashed with beer and booze, yet it was deserted. How long had they been out? They ran over to one of the strangers walking on the beach to see the date and time. He was a bit on the tourist look with a sun hat and cheesy shirt, yet he did have what they needed since he also obtained a watch.

"Excuse us sir! Could you possibly tell us the current time and day?"

"Why sure ya young fellows. It is 12:19pm and it's a Monday. You know when I was your age-"

"Yes yes thank you for your time. I'm sure you're a great man, however we don't have the time for chit chat. Goodbye."

The two boys had been knocked out for two days! Cato was going to kill Jackson by the time he was better just so he would know the full extent of his anger. They were supposed to be back in at 3:00pm today! They didn't have the time nor did their parents have the patience for them being late upon arrival. They took off to find the car which had been luckily in the same spot as before. Now if they could only be so lucky in traffic, maybe they could pull this off. They could care less on the items they brought along on Friday and this checked Jackson's pockets for their keys, three him in the back seat, then sped off towards home.

The traffic had been somewhat light today as they were speeding down the highway and arrived at Peeta's home just a quarter after three. They made it out alive and in one piece with only a few minor scratches. Peeta kissed Cato on the cheek as he got out of the car and waved a goodbye till Cato raced off to the hospital for Jackson.
