A/N: For svartalfhild who gave me the prompt on Tumblr of Sherlock in a lab coat. Hope you like it!

Sherlock missed his coat.

It was ridiculous and sickeningly sentimental, but he had always been attached to his coat for the childhood memories it provided of being bundled up in duffle coats by his mother. Memories that made him feel safe, comfortable…snug.

He grumbled to himself as he shifted on Molly's small couch, firmly putting the memories of coats and…feelings to the back of his mind.

It was pointless to waste his time thinking about such things, even worse as it reminded him that he was also missing his favourite dressing gown.

He shot a glare in the direction of Molly's cat as he shifted on the couch again, "What are you staring at?" he demanded.

Toby continued to watch him, flicking his tail in an almost thoughtful manner.

Muttering to himself about the smallness of the couch, the irritating cat and the fact that Molly wasn't there to entertain him, Sherlock stood up and left the room. He wandered aimlessly around the confines of the flat, occasionally peeping into drawers and opening cupboards as he went.

That was how he found it: Molly's spare lab coat.

It wasn't his dressing gown and it certainly wasn't his belstaff, but it reminded him of Molly and that made it comfortingly familiar.

He slipped it on, rolling his shoulders a little to get the small garment to sit more comfortably as he drifted back to the living room.

He flopped onto the couch, pulling the lab coat tighter around his body experimentally.

The texture was different and the colour was wrong, but it was a coat of sorts. The light fragrance Molly sometimes wore clung to the fabric and he resisted the urge to bury his nose into the collar.

Perhaps it would do after all, he decided, feeling himself relax as he forgot about the smallness of the couch and drifted into his Mind Palace.

Hours later Molly came home from work to find the consulting detective fast asleep on her couch, wearing her spare lab coat with his nose buried in the collar.
