A/N: Sorry about the (long) delay everyone! It's been busy, second semester has not been treating me very kindly unfortunately... SAT's and preparation for apps and such... but here is the next chapter!
She was being carried by Jack. That was for certain. She knew the feel of his hair which was brushing up against the side of her face. She didn't know where they were going, but she almost didn't care. She was warm and comfortable on Jack's back.
Then something strange happened. She wasn't on his back anymore. In an instant, she had moved from his back to standing upright in front of Jack. He was smiling, but his eyes were looking at her indifferently. She was about to question him, but he broke the silence first.
"I would do anything for you," He flashed out a heart breaking smile. "because that's what friends are for." As he said that, he turned and walked away, leaving her standing there with an aching feeling in her chest. That word, 'friend', echoed in the space, and her hope had disappeared and left a hole where it once lay.
"Jack," She started to walk after him, but he was continuously getting further and further away. "Jack-"
Her eyes flickered open. Sitting up, she noticed that she was in her bed. She pondered for a moment how she got here, but she came to her senses after replaying the events that had happened previously that day. She fell asleep on Jack as he carried her to the office. She was sure he helped her mom get her into the car. She hoped that he hadn't come all the way to her house to put her to bed…
Speaking of which, she placed a hand to her clammy forehead. She knew she dreamed, but she had forgotten what her dream was about. She wanted to remember, but when she tried, it seemed the dream only got further and further from her grasp.
The sudden opening of her door made her jump in surprise. Her mother peeked her head through the doorway. "Good morning, hope you had a good rest." She walked in and over to Rapunzel, replacing a cup of water by the bedside with one that had fresh ice. "I was wondering when you would wake up, you slept a long time." Her mother smiled, sitting on the bed in front of Rapunzel.
"How long was I out?"
"Two days." Her mother replied calmly, but her calm reply did not calm Rapunzel in the least.
"Two days!" The worry over school and her friends panicked her, sleep long forgotten and wide awake now.
"Hiccup, Jack and Merida came by yesterday after school to drop off school work and notes, don't worry." She smiled and placed a hand against her daughter's forehead. "You seem much better now. A good rest was what you needed." She started to walk away, but turned to look at her as she walked through the door. "You should tell your friends that you're awake. Your phone was going off all of yesterday and the day before with texts from them." She left, an amused smile on her face as she heard her daughter scramble for the phone on her nightstand.
Turning it on, she noticed that they did indeed leave a non-stop stream of texts for her.
Merida:
Are you ok? Did jack take you to the office like I instructed?
Hope you got there alright, you know how directionally challenged that boy can be sometimes.
You're still asleep eh? Well that's good you're getting it, your fever would have only gotten worse without it. Next time, if ya feel sick you should just take a day off.
We came by today to drop off school notes and work for ya, cause we all know you would be mad if we didn't. We left them on the table for you when you wake up whenever.
We came by again, dropped off some more school notes for you whenever you wake up. You've been asleep for quite some time now girly :) good thing you're getting your rest.
See ya whenever you're healthy enough for school!
Hiccup:
I'm sure Merida texted you by now, huh? We left a bunch of stuff for you downstairs, I'm sure you'd be wanting them.
In case you're wondering, I've kept Merida and Jack both from invading your home with far too many medicines, I think I've just saved you from overdosing on the amount of fever reducers ;)
We'll see you at school whenever!
Jack:
Txt me when you wake up.
Rapunzel smiled at that last one. She knew Jack better than he knew himself. When he was worried about something he didn't know about, he wouldn't stop texting until he got his answer, but when he was worried about something he did know about, he went silent.
Stretching her fingers, she prepared herself for the slew of texts she knew to expect from him.
Hey, just woke up! I saw you brought over my materials. Thanks a bunch! :)
It wasn't long until her phone buzzed in her hand and Jack's text appeared on the screen.
How are you? You slept a long time jesus, I was getting worried something serious had happened, like your fever developed into something worse. Don't have me scared like that Punzie! :(
It seems I'm always making you worry about me, Jack. Worry about yourself every once in a while, k? :) If my fever developed into something worse, I'm sure my mother would have alerted you by now. She knows she needs to keep you guys up to date with this kind of thing. :)
(: Do you want me to come over? …For school purposes, you know?
Nah, it's fine! I've got this. I'll see you at school tomorrow, okay? :)
Okay.
Setting down her phone she fell back on the bed smiling, her hair strewn about her messily. She thought about Jack, and what school the next day would bring. Turning her head, she looked at her hair. It was messy and tangled, and thus reminded her that she had not taken a shower in a couple days.
Getting up, she tossed her phone onto her pillow and headed off to the bathroom. What she did not know, was that on the other line of their conversation, Jack was laying on his own bed, arm over his eyes and phone in hand, disappointed he had to wait another day to see her again.
A/N: I understand that there is a concern from some of the readers about there not being enough Merricup, but don't worry! That will soon come! ;3
