Daria's Purge

Daria smiled as the Emergency Broadcast System alert finished playing, though since she was hanging off to the back her parents and sister didn't see her smile.

Or else they would have feared...

"Don't worry kids," Jake said reassuringly while playing with the zoom on the security cameras, "We'll be fine just like every year."

"Not this year," Daria thought to herself as she took out the SIG Pro semi-automatic she had swiped out of the small emergency armory and took aim first at the biggest threat in the room.

At the sound of the blast Daria was fleetingly thankful that she had slipped in earplugs, because in the enclosed space the sound was amplified to pretty high levels.

But the thought was fleetingly, since it paled in comparison to seeing Helen Morgendorffer's brains exploding from out of her face.

Daria swung fast and took aim at Quinn as she and Jake began to react.

Two pulls of the trigger lodged rounds deep into Quinn's sides since her younger sister was turning around, forcing Daria to waste some more ammo by putting more rounds in her chest.

Daria noticed that someone was laughing and a moment later realized that it was her.

Her gaze swept the room and she found her father having made it to the other end of the room, trying to open the vault that contain the families emergency supply of weapons.

He stopped when he realized that Daria had a bead on him.

"Kiddo..." Jake began to moan, "Why?"

"Because," Daria said with that disturbing smile, her eyes invisible behind her glasses, "It's my duty as an American to vent my negative emotion... and you three have given me plenty of reason to be angry."

Jake opened his mouth to say something, was it a plea? an apology? a deal?

It didn't matter, he never got to utter another syllable.

Daria pulled the trigger, and proceeded to empty the rest of the clip into her father.

The bulk of the bullets hit Jake square in the chest, though a couple found their way into his right shoulder, one hit the wall, and another struck his hip.

But in the end Jake's prone form slumped down the wall, smearing blood all along the way.

As soon as he hit the floor, Daria lowered her weapon and said, "Blessed be the New Founding Fathers, this Purge was my first and so far my best."

Then she walked out of the room, since she would need to wait until tomorrow for the authorities to collect the bodies.

With her parents and sister dead, and the next day being her 18th birthday Daria Morgendorffer would be an adult and in control of her own destiny.

She just hoped that Jane and Trent survived their annual Purge Party, it would suck not having a best friend to be roommates with next year.
