A/N: My first entry for the digi-dex (inspired by the Pokedex naturally). You guys are welcome to join in (and they don't have to be poetry). Just visit the Digimon Fanfiction Challenges forum (link's on my profile). On that note, if you have other challenge/contest ideas, plot bunnies up for adoption or want to kick-start the digimon version of review-tag, visit as well.

And enjoy.

Reborn Tengu
Digidex entry: Karatenmon

Birds of a feather flock
save they
who live their lives in solitude
from the spoilt left behind
by mortals who uplift their roots

And spread their wings.
Their own wings are black and heavy
with dust and disuse –
but one strong flap would see them off the ground
if they willed.

The world is mapped out carefully
under sharp-tilt eyes
and every change, in shape or form,
duly noted in an ever-growing chronicle

Which loses its lustre by the day
and golden swords, a pair but alone,
shine in the ever-coming sun
that beckons new and seizes old

Save the ghosts that linger
on bad principles but good faith.

Pride is their shortcoming.
Pride is their bane.
And until their pride is overcome,
or defeated,
they are bound to a fruitless earth

Taunting what they can never be.

Notes: the Karatenmon are based off the Tengu from Japanese literature/myth, ghosts that are unable to enter hell because of their Buddhist beliefs but unable to enter heaven because of their good principles. Wings are black in appearance and their swords looked somewhat gold in the wikipedia diagram. And the one that Koji had the fortune/misfortune of meaning was taunting him about his loneliness and being unworthy of the spirits of light, but in this context that could be interpreted as his own jealousy. And a character trait for the species is pride (according to their wiki-entry). That was just in case poetry's not your strong suit…
