A Different Battle
When the Kings men started to attack Carvahall, Roran Stronghammer sent a message to Surda, in the hopes the Varden will help.
Chapter Five
The Flight
As one we started to walk forward, to join with Eragon however we all slowed when they reached Eragon, who suddenly started to laugh. The Dragon also seemed to chuckle deep in her throat, a sound that resembles thunder.
"Eragon?" I whispered, approaching the Dragon. The Dragon turned to stare at me.
"Roran, this is Saphira, Saphira, Roran" smiled Eragon as he moved away from Saphira and smiled at Roran, finally relaxed.
Eragon's cousin? a female spoke in my mind and I jumped. Eragon smiled at me. He turned back to Saphira and rested his hand on her snout. He smiled at her.
"Yes, he's my cousin" he looked at Saphira and I got the hint. It was the Dragon who spoke to me. She looked me right in the eye and seemed to judge me. She turned back to Eragon and nodded.
Would you like to fly? asked the Dragon, Saphira, looking back at me, her eyes the exact shade as Eragon's.
"If that's okay with Brom" answered Eragon. He looked at the elderly man, who nodded. Eragon bowed to Brom and faced me.
"Well?" Eragon has turned to me. I shifted a little.
"I guess" I stuttered. I gulped when I saw how tall Saphira actually was. How powerful her folded wings looked.
"Roran?" I heard Katrina from behind and I turned to her. And right in front of her father, I grabbed her by the waist and pressed a kiss to her lips.
"What's going on?" she whispered to me. I felt Eragon behind me and looking away, blushing. At least that I had not changed. He tapped my shoulder and I let go of Katrina, I allowed him to grab my wrist and pull me away from her.
"I'm going flying" I called back, exitment filling my voice. I actually wanted to do this now. It was weird that I was nervous a few minutes before
Eragon helped me up and jumped on himself, sitting right in front of me. He looked at Brom and nodded.
"Don't worry, if you fall off, Saphira will catch you" Eragon said to me before Saphira spread her wings, leaned forward and leapt to the sky in one great bound. Dust gathered below us, causing some of the people left to cough.
I saw Eragon smile widely as we got higher and higher. Then Saphira suddenly flew forward and then we were off.
"You are a Rider?" I called to him. I heard him in my head, laughing. I grabbed him around the waist,, a little shocked, even though Saphira had talked in my head.
Just think your replies, it's easier to do it like this. Yes, yes I am a Rider.
Okay, what about my father?
He was killed by the Raz'zac, a foul race that I killed. There is still one though.
Aren't we going to kill it?
It's with the Varden, and it's all yours. I got all my revenge out my system. You still to clear it.
Okay, erm, why did you have to ask Brom before doing this?
Because he's my teacher and I am still a student. He refuses to tell me when I won't be a student. And I haven't really had another person on this who hasn't got magic, and so can't save themselves should they fall.
Roran laughed and pressed his head in between Eragon's shoulder blades.
We are nearly at the Varden, so you may want to let go of my and grab the saddle.
Why?
Eragon suddenly stood up on the saddle. What the hell was he doing?
He smirked at me and jumped off Saphira. I leaned over Saphira and saw him flip in the air, whisper a word and start to float down, as if he were a balloon. Saphira started to fly in circles, slowly going down.
They landed at the same time and I saw that the village were already here. Eragon helped me climb of Saphira before he and Saphira bowed their heads and a woman came toward.
"Hello, Roran, welcome to the Varden."
