Chapter 16: It's Confidential

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or any other copy written material used or referenced to in the making of this fanfiction.

The sun was starting to set over the little town of which she was now shackled to and Hinata sat staring off into the distance at a bench in front of her school. School had let out at least four or five hours ago and she had left Mrs. Senju's office two hours after that but...she couldn't bring herself to leave. She couldn't drag up the mental energy it took to go to work and she was afraid to go home. She wasn't allowed to talk to anyone aside from her father and—for some reason—Kuranai about her mission and she was supposedly the only one who could do it. The principle had given her specific instructions, some of which will actually help her graduate but...mostly they were ways to get close enough to gather the right information. Hinata ran a hand through her hair in frustration. There was just too much to do...She wasn't even really given enough time. She hardly knew Neji at all! Wouldn't he find it a little suspicious if she just came up to him and started chatting away? She had been instructed to tell him that she was his sister. That both she and Hanabi were his sisters. Was there a way to tell Neji without Hanabi finding out? Possibly, but there was also the possibility of the rest of the group finding out and if they slipped up and told her...She would never forgive her. This school was ruining her life. Everything she had ever thought and ever known...Shaking the thoughts from her head was slightly more difficult than she thought. Mrs. Senju said she needed a clear head for the assignment. She couldn't afford to mess up, her words exactly. Sure she had watched tons of spy movies but to actually be one.

Well, she was pretty much going to be one when she graduated a...ny...way...so that's why they made her a sleeper. Hinata threw her hands up in the air and sighed in annoyance. They brought her to this school because they had already known hadn't they?! Did they plan this whole thing? What about TenTen? Had they planned on Tenten catching her with Naruto too? Did they really plan on killing her or was it all just a bluff to make her step up? The more Hinata thought about it, the more things fell into place. That was why her father knew Mrs. Senju and Kuranai when they came to the house. Did her father go to this school too? What about her mother? What does she have to do with all of this? She was so tired of all the secrets and having to live this way. She was going to figure it all out. If it was the last thing she did, she would find out why all of this was happening to her and why her life was being turned upside down. When she did, when she had uncovered every last secret there was about her, her family and her life then…then she would leave. She won't continue being anyone's pawn. Standing up from the bench, Hinata stood firm in her conviction.

This was it for her. It was now or never…but first. Her father…or rather… Hiashi.

By the time she arrived home, Hanabi had already finished her eating dinner, her homework and was already washed for bed. She sat, legs tucked on the couch, watching a movie she had from their old house. Hanabi smiled at her when she walked and Hinata smiled back. "He got the job?"

Hanabi nodded, yawning as she rubbed her eyes. "Yeah, we celebrated with take-out. There's still some left in the kitchen if you haven't eaten."

Hinata nodded and looked down at her now bare toes. Hanabi wasn't her full blooded sister. How could she live with herself now knowing this? "Hanabi?"

"Mhmm? What's up?"

Hinata looked back up at her sister, her brown eyes heavy with fatigue. She kept rubbing her eyes and yawning, she must have been waiting up for her. Her sister looked so cute when she was tired. She couldn't tell her. She couldn't break this apart. This was her sister no matter what and she had to think of her feelings first. "Has it been a long day?"

"Yeah, stupid obstacle course again this week. I think the middle schoolers have mid-terms at this school too. Stupid school will kill me before I'm 14."

"Well, I'm home now so you can go ahead and go to bed."

Hanabi snorted as she stood up and turned the TV off. "I wasn't waiting for you…weirdo." She gave Hinata a kiss on the cheek before waving and starting off toward her room.

"I love you Hanabi!"

Hinata watched as her sister slowly walked back to her room before she let out a big sigh. Mentally she was exhausted, what was she going to do when she say her father if talking to Hanabi was already that hard? Throwing her bag on the floor by the dining room table, Hinata dragged herself to the kitchen so she could heat up what was left of dinner. As she waited for her small plate of food to heat up, she went over the conversation with Mrs. Senju in her mind once more. Step One: Give Neji the "confidential" file containing her blood results and explain their biological connection. Step Two: Ask for training on how to use her…what was it? Byakugan? Mrs. Senju is confident that this will be the start of the trust building should he agree. Step Three: Inquire about their family. Her biological father and mother to be specific. All the while she MUST be extra careful not to tip him off to anything just in case he is in league with their enemies. She's to report every encounter in both written and video recorded form to ensure that all the facts are recorded correctly. It doesn't sound difficult but Hinata already knew she was going to have an especially hard time trying to complete this mission without letting her emotions get too involved. Hinata jumped when the microwave's beep echoed through the quiet kitchen. Shaking her head at herself, she removed her food and made her way back to the table. A pair of disposable chopsticks was laying on the table, waiting for her to use them.

She was just sitting down when she heard the door to one of the three bedrooms squeak open and footsteps shuffle down the hall. When her fathers' head peaked around the corner she swallowed hard and bit her lip nervously. "…h-hi…"

Hiashi stood there for a moment, rubbing his hands on his pajama bottoms, and stared at her as if he had seen a ghost. Finally, after what seemed like forever, he sighed and made his way over and sat at a seat across from her. "Hinata—"

"—W-why didn't you t-tell me?" Picking up the wooden chopsticks, she tore the paper off and snapped them apart.

"Hinata I—" Her father started, leaning forward as if to touch her, but she cut him off again.

"—all this time…you should have told me."

He shook his head roughly forcing a few strands of his long brown hair to come loose from its ponytail. "It wasn't that simp—"

"—But it is, you could have just said—"

Hiashi stood up, the chair squeaking loudly against the floor. "Hinata I couldn't. I really couldn't. Even if I could I wouldn't have anyway."

"W-why not?"

"Because I love you just as much as I love Hanabi and you not being of my blood means absolutely nothing to me. You're my daughter no matter what." They both stayed silent for a few minutes. Neither knowing what exactly to say next. Hiashi sighed again, rubbing a hand over his weary face before taking a seat once more.

"Why couldn't you tell me?"

"It's a really, really long and difficult story."

"You're not allowed to tell me it, are you?"

He shook his head slowly. "…No…well...I can only tell you that your mother and I also attended the Flying Leaf. I was her Handler but we fell in love. Her mission forced us apart and you are a product of that mission. When she found out she was pregnant for the second time, pregnant with you, she ran away and came to live with me. That's all I can say. The rest—"

The young woman nodded. "Is classified. O-ok."

"…Are you okay? Do you need a day off tomorrow?"

Hinata shook her head. "N-no…I s-should start my m-mission as soon as p-possible." She unclenched her fist and slowly started to eat her dinner. She really didn't want to talk about it anymore and she hopped her father got her hint. It was a really long day and she was just so tired of it all.

"Okay…Well, get some sleep. It's going to be a good while before we get some answers." Her father stood and walked to the entrance of the hallway before turning his head to look back at her. "Hinata…"

She looked up at him, her eyes tired. "Yes?"

"Everything will be okay." He nodded to her, waving his hand briefly, before finally going into his bedroom and shutting the door.

A/N: Hey Guys, it's been a while! You're not mad are you? Sorry this chapter is so short but I felt like if I didn't post it now I'd never get around to it! Just so you all know, this will probably be my last NaruHina fanfic. I'm not even sure if I want to finish Complexity. I'm kinda obsessed with SasuHina now .. There is a story that I'm working on, and have been working on for a while, called Time Flies. Not sure when I'll get around to posting it but it is a NaruHina/NaruIno/NaruAnko time time travelish fic. So if you want you can keep an eye out for that. Updates may be more regular (once or twice a month) from now on. I was diagnosed with Crohns disease last year and after dealing with a flare up and then getting pregnant and then ANOTHER flare up, I'm finally getting back to being more energized and confident in myself! Thank you all for sticking through and waiting for an update!
