Guard
He took her. He took her. That mindless fool took my Christine! How dare he even think Christine will ever be his! Now he has her who knows where, doing who knows what. All because I let my guard down for two minutes and seventeen seconds!
My hands shake with aggravation in front of me. The knuckles becoming whiter every time they collide with each other.
"Stop shaking." I command my hands. It's no use, they'll never stop shaking until they're holding my Christine in them.
Three days she had been gone. Three whole days off prancing around with him. All because I let my guard down. Oh, how I would make him pay. Christine is mine, was mine and always will be mine! I can just imagine them, her sitting on the couch while he's going on and on about nonsense.
Christine loves no one but me! She told me so herself, she would not lie to me. Would she?
"Do not doubt yourself. Christine loves you and only you." I assured myself.
I began to stand, but sat back down onto the wooden stool in lack of energy.
"What if she doesn't love you?" My mouth allowed the words to come forth willingly, even though I had strictly ordered it not to even consider that possibility.
"It could be true. You saw it with your own eyes on that rooftop. Christine is in love. But with who? You have seen her speak that name with love, never hatred. Also, you can't deny you didn't suspect it." I whispered.
I pulled at the strings of my wrinkled shirt. I had not changed since she left. Only removing my waistcoat when it was sodden from my tears.
I had not left the small stool except in the case of necessities. I was sleep deprived. I had only slept an hour before waking with nightmares. Tears lightly streamed down my long forgotten cheeks, getting heavier with every second.
She might love him. The thought echoed in my mind, not caring to stop when I screamed out in agitation. My Christine might be gone forever and all because I let my guard down for two minutes and seventeen seconds.
"No." I half spoke. "No. No! I shall take back what is mine. He shall not victor! Christine is mine. For I, Vicomte Raoul de Chagny, vow to never let my guard down again!" With that I fell of the stool in a fit of tears.
