Fred/Rose

Prompt: Rest My Case

Rest My Case

June 12, 2020

Rose Weasley had never been a patient girl. Especially during exam time. So, it came as no surprise to anyone who knew her that she snapped at anyone in the Common Room who even breathed too loudly when she was trying to study. It was a Thursday night, and her Ancient Runes exam was on the following Monday at 9:15am sharp, and Rose was stressed. Her frizzy, red hair was piled high on top of her head in an untidy heap, to keep it out of her eyes. She was hunched over her textbook, scrawling away ferociously, trying to take down as many notes as possible.

"I don't know what that piece of parchment did to you, but I'm sure this behaviour is uncalled for."

With a scowl, Rose lifted her head and narrowed her eyes at her cousin. He was in his Quidditch robes, covered in a thin sheen of sweat that made his dark skin shine.

"What do you want, Fred?" she asked, huffing impatiently.

"The fair treatment of stationary items, that's what," he exclaimed with an air of importance. "Look at the state of that parchment."

Rose looked down at her notes, and realised that she had been pressing so hard with her quill, she had ripped small tears in some of the words. She snorted and rolled her eyes at him.

"It doesn't have feelings, Fred. I'm sure it doesn't care."

With an exasperated sigh, Fred shook his head at her and tutted. "That is exactly the kind of attitude I would expect from such a ruthless note-taker." His voice was dripping with sarcasm and it took all Rose had not to laugh at him. "It is people like you, Rose Weasley, that are the cause of oppression amongst the stationary society. You should be ashamed of yourself."

"You're a complete idiot," she smirked. "I don't know what Emily sees in you."

Fred puffed up his chest proudly. "She appreciates my compassion for those less fortunate than us."

"I rest my case," Rose muttered under her breath. "And how, exactly, are stationary items less fortunate than us? Please, enlighten me."

"Oh, dear cousin," Fred placed a hand on her shoulder. "I simply do not have the time to go into such detail. I would not expect an obsessive studier like you, to understand the parchment oppression."

Rose couldn't keep her laughter in and threw her head back.

"I do not partake in such crimes," he continued, his face remaining completely serious.

"Because you don't study?" Rose suggested, raising her eyebrow.

"Exactly," Fred winked at her and continued upstairs to his dormitory. "Think about that the next time you take notes."

Rose shook her head, laughing to herself, as she returned to her textbook. Honestly, she thought to herself, I have the strangest relatives.

A/N: I was in a strange mood when I wrote this, and as a result, cracked myself up. I have a friend who is like this, and for some reason I see Fred as a little bit like him. I hope I made you laugh, or at least smile :) xx
