Nina's P.O.V

"So Patricia, what does friendship mean to you?"

"Friends keep each other's secrets, look out for each other, comfort each other, and if a friend has reasonable cause to believe you've been kidnapped, they will do everything in their power to find you, even if it means breaking into an abandoned warehouse in the middle of the woods."

"Or getting cursed by the ghost of King Tut's murderer. Thanks, Trixie. I really miss those days, you know?"

"Yeah, though we almost died a few times, I can honestly say that being in Sibuna was the most fun I've ever had."

"Same here. I really miss solving mysteries with you guys, and sneaking around late at night. Especially with Fabian." Shoot, did I really just say that? I expected her to tease me for that, or at least berate me about how he's happy with Mara and I should just move on. She doesn't.

"I know it must be hard to see them together. There was a time where Eddie and I were broken up and I thought he and K.T were an item. It killed me inside, you know? Obviously it worked out for us, but I can imagine what you're going through."

"Thanks Patricia, I really need to talk to someone right now."

"You know I'm not really good at being girly, do you want to speak with Amber?"

"Yeah, I need her advice. Thank you, really."

"What are friends for?"

Amber's P.O.V

We were all gathered in the common room waiting for Trixie and Nina to solve their argument. I was inspecting my manicure when I came up with a genius idea.

"Tomorrow is Nina and Joy's birthday! We should have a party." Nina seems like she could use some cheering up, and what better way to go about that than throw a party?

"That's genius Amber! It's short notice, but if we start planning now it should be fabulous!" Joy exclaimed, practically leaping up from her spot next to Jerome.

"I know." After all, I've always been a little bit of a genius.

I was going to help her plan, but she dragged Mara off to their room instead. At least now Mara's away from Fabian for a while. Maybe that'll give Nina a chance to talk to him when she comes back down.

I was going to approach him and tactfully get some information out of him to see how he feels about Nina's return, but he was staring into space deep in thought about something. I decided to let him be and returned to my nails. I really need to repaint them, they're starting to chip. I also realize I've been biting them, a subconscious habit I thought I broke. I bite them when I'm nervous and worry causes wrinkles. I'm too young to have wrinkles! I don't know what I'm so worried about, it must not be important if I can't remember. Oh well. Maybe I'll paint them pink, that's always a good color, or maybe green. Light green is rather pretty and it's Alfie's favourite color. Oh, Alfie. I can't be worried about him. I mean what is there to worry about? He's with Willow, and I'm ...alone.

After a few more minutes, Patricia came bounding down the stairs. "Amber, Nina needs you. She's in our room."

"Is she ok?" Fabian asks before I can respond. He's worried about her, cute. Maybe he does still have feelings for her after all.

"She's fine I'm sure. Just needs to talk about girl stuff, right Ambs?"

"Right."

When I got our room, Nina was sitting on the edge of her bed about ready to burst into tears. I closed the door behind me and sat down next to her.

"Oh, honey. Is this about 'He Who Shall Not Be Named'?"

"Yes, Amber. It's about Voldemort." I fake gasped and acted like I was afraid he would appear at any moment. I must have looked quite ridiculous, but it was worth it to make her smile. It quickly faded, however.

"I'm such an idiot."

"Don't say that, Nina. We both know it's not true. If Fabian can't see what a great person you are then he's the idiot."

"Thanks, but I just went right out and told him how I feel in front of his girlfriend. I'm the one who told him to move on, I should be glad that he did. Instead I just made things awkward between us and he'll probably never want to talk to me again."

"I love you, but I think you're overreacting just a bit. When you didn't come back to school he was insanely worried. More so than Patricia was about Joy in sophomore year if possible. I think whether you're in a relationship, best friends, or mere acquaintances he would still care about you."

"I guess you're right."

"You can guess all you want, but I know I'm right." Now there's a smile. "So, I think Trudy has some cookie dough ice cream, want to watch Mean Girls tonight? I brought my laptop and I think our favorite mean girl Patricia would love to join us. What do you say?"

"Of course. Sounds like a party."

"Speaking of parties, tomorrows your birthday! And Joy's. We're throwing a party to celebrate. You have got let me pick out your outfit. Oh my gosh tomorrow's a Wednesday, we have to wear pink!"

Jerome's P.O.V

Let the pranking begin! Alfie and I have come up with some great ideas, no one is safe. They're all so oblivious, don't suspect a thing. Suckers.

"Is everything in place?" I ask Alfie after he snuck back downstairs.

"Yep. They're clueless. Just wait in 5...4...3...2..."

"Jerome Francis Clarke! Alfred Marmaduke Lewis! You did not!"

"Dude, your middle name's Francis?" Alfie asked in the midst of his laughter.

"Yours is Marmaduke."

"Touché."
