Song of the Sea
I remember the smell of the salt on the sand,
I remember the song of the sea.
Even inland, so far from that sand,
I still hear the waves calling me.
…
The land is solid, unmoving, unchanging,
The sea, it never stood still.
The wind through the air, as I weaved seaweed with care,
I remember the seagulls' light shrill.
…
The inland is green, with sights unforseen,
And serene is the soundless blue sky.
I've seen Men and more, so far from the shore,
And yet I still yearn for its cry.
…
So I've sworn to return to the shore, cherished home,
My feelings, they do not belie.
For while the land is so grand, my heart's yearning rings true,
I must cease, must stop living this lie.
…
So west I shall travel, down to the ocean,
To my back is the grass and the trees.
And at once I feel my burden's been lifted,
My spirit, it once more flows free.
