Jack would always be there for Jamie and Jamie would always be there for Jack. Since Jamie was Jack's first believer, after the defeat of Pitch, Jack spent a lot of his time in Burgess. He became a big brother to Jamie, and was his rock when his parents divorced, when Sophie got sick. Jack helped Jamie with his homework when he could (he was a very reliable source for history projects) and could always be counted on to whip up a quick blizzard and snow day when Jamie needed to finish something or just needed a day off.

Jamie, in turn, introduced Jack to the modern world and took him to an arcade (at first, patrons and owners were terrified of the machines that would suddenly start running on their own, but in time the Burgess arcade was one of the most popular in the United States and offered even started offering special ghost tours). Jamie grew up, but never stopped believing. He went to college at Dartmouth, wanting to stay close to the snow and Jack.

At some point, neither of which can remember exactly when, their roles flipped. Although Jamie was always rather in awe of the 300 year old winter spirit who could control the weather, Jamie became the older brother to Jack, forever frozen at seventeen. Later, he became the very first adult Jack could completely trust. His partner in crime when they were younger, Jamie never outgrew having fun with Jack, but unlike the mischievous winter spirit, he matured.

Jamie became a very successful author, writing a series of popular children's books about Jack Frost and the Guardians. Illustrated by Sophie to ensure accuracy, they delighted Jack and the other Guardians and brought in multitudes of new believers from all over. For the first time in over 300 years, Jack could be seen by children, and he loved it, spending hours in spirited snowball fights all over the world. However, he never forgot to make time for his first believer, no matter how old he got.

Jack never quite got over that it was his Jamie sitting quietly in a comfortable chair looking so old so soon (seventy years is a blink for an immortal), but Jamie would always just laugh, assure him it was all just part of the circle of time, and tease him about his having left the circle entirely.

And so their relationship continued evolving until one day Jack flew back to Burgess just in time to see Jamie smile contentedly and close his eyes for the last time, surrounded by an extensive amount of family and friends. Jamie had been beloved by everyone in Burgess, especially the children whom he always made sure had plenty of skates and sleds and opportunities for a great snowball fight.

Jack left in a blast of wind back to his pond and let out his emotions in a blizzard of epic proportions. When the storm finally calmed, Jack just sat there for days, head bowed and face completely obscured by his frost-tinged hood. Finally, he got up the courage, and, knowing it needed to be done, walked slowly and respectfully towards the stone.

"Hey Jamie", Jack whispered, voice choked, "it's me".

Unable to go on, he lightly traced the letters with his fingers, spreading a

beautiful icing of frost over the stone. Jack managed a watery smile.

"You'd like that," he mumbled. Unbeknownst to him, only about a foot away,

Jamie stood there, unseen and unheard.

"I do," whispered Jamie, smiling through his tears.

He placed his hand on Jack's shoulder and Jack shivered, subconsciously feeling the presence. They stayed there a long time, Jack kneeling in front of the stone, Jamie standing behind, invisible. Jamie no longer walked the Earth after that time, but in his own way he never left Jack's side.

After all, Jack was always there for Jamie and Jamie was always there for Jack.
