Clark looked at his school, unsure about going in.
"Clark!" he turned and felt a small person crash into his chest, her arms wrapping around him. "Oh my God you're back! Where the hell have you been?" she asked, slapping him upside the head. He laughed at her and pried her off of him.
"I had to…clear my head. But I'm back now."
"And you're not going away again?"
"No."
"Good, you had me and your parents and Lex worried!"
"And me," Pete said, coming up behind Chloe. "I was worried."
"Pete. Listen, about-"
"It's okay Clark. I know I kinda… freaked. And I'm sorry for that. You're my best friend, and I should've tried to be more…understanding. We good?" Pete asked, holding out his hand for a handshake. Clark nodded and reached out his hand, grasping Pete's.
"We're good." Pete grinned as he slid an arm around Chloe's waist, who blushed at Clark's raised eyebrows.
"Welcome back man."
…
Sylvia ambled to her backyard, digging out a small box from underneath a large bush. She looked at the mark on the box and quickly filled the hole back up with dirt before she went back into her house.
She wanted to have the box, just in case; if what she saw came to be, then she would need it.
…
"Hello Lex," Mr. Luthor said, looking up at him from his seat.
"What are you doing in my personal office?"
"What, I can't come visit my son whenever I like?"
"No," Lex said, putting his jacket up. "What do you want?"
"Just came to chat my boy. Come, sit," he said, smiling.
"I don't want to 'chat'. Tell me why you're here and then get out."
"So hostile. I thought you would be overflowing with joy now that young Mr. Kent has returned home, safe and sound." Lex stilled at these words, not looking at his dad. "Ooh, did you not know? How interesting… considering your… friendship, with him."
"What I do is none of your business dad."
"Oh but it is Lex," the older Luthor said, getting up and moving towards his son. "Your life is my business. The only reason you're even here in Smallville is because of me. And I can easily have you relocated."
"What do you want?" Lex asked, meeting his father's eyes. Lionel's eyes were hard but he smiled, even if it didn't reach his eyes.
"For these dalliances you've allowed yourself to take part in to stop."
"Or what?"
"You're not the only one I can make disappear. But considering your… interest in the young Kent, maybe I need to keep him and see what's so special. But his parents, they'd be easy to get rid of. And I have no problem doing it."
"No. You will not touch them."
"Or what Lex? What will you do to your dear old dad?"
"You're not the only one who can make people go away dad." Lionel stared at his son before he turned to leave.
"Then I guess this conversation is over Lex. Think about what I've said. I'll give you a couple of days to consider it before I take matters into my own hands. And believe me, I will."
…
Clark was surprised to find Lex's car outside his farm when he got home from school. Straining, he could hear him moving around in the barn's loft. Dashing there, he was there in a minute.
"Lex," Clark said, setting down his backpack. Lex turned to him and smiled grimly at him. "What's wrong?"
"Why didn't you tell me you were back?"
"I got back late last night. And I'm grounded. If my dad sees you here he'll-"
"I won't stay long. I just… I wanted to see you. You disappeared for a week. I missed you."
"I missed you too. I just… I have no excuse for leaving." Lex moved towards him and wrapped the teen in a hug.
"I'm glad you're okay."
"Lex… what's wrong?" Clark asked, pulling him to face him.
"Apparently my…dad, has become aware…"
"Of us."
"Yes. But you don't need to worry Clark, I'll handle this."
"Lex, your dad is ruthless! My parents-"
"Will be alright. I'm not going to let anything happen to you, or your parents. You have to trust me on this Clark."
"But Lex-"
"It'll be okay," Lex told him, running his fingers through his dark hair. "Do you trust me?"
"Of course… But your dad-"
"Let me handle him. Okay?" Clark nodded and Lex kissed him before he pulled away. "I have to go, but I wanted to see you. I'm glad you got home safely." Clark nodded and surprised Lex by pressing a kiss to his lips.
"Bye."
"Bye Clark. I'll come by later okay?" Clark watched him go before he headed into his house to work on his mountain of homework.
…
As night was falling on Smallville, Sylvia moved into her backyard, staring at the dark sky, the box she had dug up earlier in her hands. She clutched it tightly, looking at the sky still, as if waiting for something.
"Soon. Change," she muttered to herself, eyes unblinking.
…
Clark was eating dinner with his parents when he looked up.
"Clark?"
"I thought I heard something… I guess I imagined it," he said, looking around. He shook his head and went back to eating, only for his head to jerk up again.
"What is it?"
"There's something…" he said, watching the door. He pushed his parents down under the table as their door burst open, men in black suits with guns and nightsticks barging in. He was grabbed by two guys, instantly feeling weakened as they gripped him. He watched in his weakened state as his parents were grabbed roughly and bound before being hit over the head. "Mom, dad!" he cried, only for someone to swing at him; he ducked and luckily they missed. He gasped as he was kneed in the gut and fell to his knees.
"Mr. Kent," a voice said, making him raise his eyes to see a face he recognized.
"Mr. Luthor," he got out, making the older man grin.
"I'm aware my son talked to you. Which he really shouldn't have. I am sorry to have to do this. But you see, he's very taken with you. He can't afford any distractions, so I am removing both you and your family from this town. But you're coming with me. I wish to see what is so fascinating about you Clark." Clark shivered as he touched his face lightly. "Oh yes, so fascinating." Clark gasped as he pulled his face away. Mr. Luthor smirked and took a step back.
"Dad, let them go." Clark looked up and saw Lex.
"Lex!" he exclaimed right before tape was bound over his lips. His muffled cries could be heard as Mr. Luthor snapped his fingers, making men rush Lex as they began to beat him. Mr. Luthor shook his head as he moved to his son, who was now on the ground.
"You should've listened to my warning Lex. You made it too easy for this to happen. Is this the way you treat someone you care about? I hate to think what you do to your enemies son." Lex ignored him and turned his head to face Clark.
"I'm…sorry Clark. I…love you." Clark struggled against his bounds once more before he was being hit by multiple nightsticks. "No! Clark!"
Clark had stopped moving though. Through hazy eyes, he finally recognized the green glow emitting from the nightsticks.
With one last attempted look at Lex, Clark passed out.
…
Sylvia was on her knees, gasping for breath as she fumbled with the lid of the box.
She had to get it open soon, before it was too late. Finally, the lid fell open. Gripping what was inside, she tossed it into the air, letting out a garbled cry.
"Fix...everything. FIX!" The object continued to soar into the sky, until finally it hovered over the town.
It was oblong crystal, green and transparent. It emitted a soft glow as it hovered there for a minute.
With a shake, it emitted a bright green light that engulfed the whole time.
Sylvia took a deep, steady breath as the light fled over her. The ground shook slightly but she grinned before the light got brighter, brightening everything around the town.
…
Clark sat up in his bed, his head pounding. He hurried to the kitchen, seeing his parents eating breakfast.
"Hey sleepyhead, you better get ready, don't want to be late," his dad said over his coffee cup, eyeing him.
"What happened?"
"Are you talking about the earthquake?" his mom asked, looking at him.
"Earthquake?"
"There was an earthquake last night. Shook the whole town."
"Luckily there hasn't been any reported damage."
"Except some bad headaches."
"I have a headache," Clark said, rubbing his temple. "Crap, I have to go!"
"Language young man!" Clark waved his dad off and got dressed before running outside, just in time to see the bus pass by. He saw Chloe and Pete waving at him from the last seat, making him glare at their grins. Once the bus was out of sight, his dad came outside. "Want a ride?"
"No… I think I'll run." He nodded and watched his son dash off.
"Be careful," he called out, but Clark was gone.
…
"How did you beat us here?" Chloe asked, making Clark grin.
"Just lucky I guess," he said, grinning at her and Pete, who was laughing at them.
"Hey Clark, there's Lana. Go say hi." Clark stared at Lana, who was talking with her friends.
"No… something feels…I don't know. But not today."
"What's up Clark, you always sneak in a quick hi before Whitney gets here. And there he is." Clark shrugged and continued to walk in with his friends.
"I don't know, I just feel… weird."
"Must be the earthquake headache. People have been complaining of weird feelings all morning."
"Must be."
…
Lex sat in his office, unable to focus. His eyes kept straying to his pool table and to his couch; he felt like he should remember something, but couldn't. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he went back to his work.
Whatever was wrong would be forgotten about, he was sure.
…
Yes, it's over. I know the ending majorly sucked, but I tried.
I hope it wasn't too bad.
Thanks for reading.
And everyone have a safe and happy new year!
