Camryn's POV
Monday morning I hobbled into Degrassi, still half asleep. The second I set foot in Mr. Perino's classroom, Maya and Tristan began bombarding me with questions about my date with Winston.
"Where did you guys go?"
"Did he try to be romantic?"
"Was he romantic?"
"CALM DOWN!" I exclaimed putting my hands to my head, "How is it you Canadians are so awake on a Monday morning? At my old school everybody was a zombie every morning, especially Monday." Maya and Tristan shared a look and I could tell they were trying not to laugh at me. "I'm not a morning person, okay." I ran my hand through my wet hair to unstick it from my scalp. "You wanna know what happened Saturday night?" They practically jumped out of their seats in excitement. "We went to that steak place and we just hung out and talked. I had the chicken wings, they were good." I nodded my head is satisfaction.
Maya and Tristan shared a look of disappointment. "Why is it you Americans suck at gossiping?"
I rolled my eyes at them. "Guys, Chewy and I are not together." They looked at each other shocked, "I don't like him, and he doesn't like me. He only asked me out to get Miles off his back."
"I'd like to get Miles on my back." Tristan mumbled quietly. Both Maya and I slowly turned our heads towards him. Tristan flashed his head between the two of us. "Did I say that out loud?"
Maya giggled as she turned her body back to the front of the class.
It felt like my heart stopped, "Trist." I whispered and tapped his elbow to get his attention. "Do you actually have a crush on Miles?" I asked, terrified to know the answer.
Tristan's cheeks began to glow a faint pink color as he checked to make sure Maya wasn't listening. "Kind of.." He whispered back. "Don't tell Maya, but I don't really want them to get together. And I know he doesn't want to admit it, but I have this weird feeling that Miles might like me back."
A forced a smile onto my face. This isn't good. I took out my phone and texted Winston.
We have a problem. Tristan likes Miles. Miles likes Tristan. Only a matter of time until one of them makes a move.
"Speaking of Winston," I whispered as Mr. Perino took attendance for homeroom. "where is he?" I pointed to his empty seat behind a sound asleep Miles.
"Winston." Mr. Perino yelled from his desk. Silence filled the room, breaking the attendance flow. "Winston?" He repeated.
"HERE!" An out of breath Winston yelled as he ran into the class room.
I chuckled as the noise awoke Miles. Winston took his seat behind Miles and next to me.
"Hey," he greeted.
"Did you get my text?" I asked.
He raised an eyebrow and looked at his phone. He tapped the screen a few times as his eyes moved from left to right. Setting his phone on his table he sighed. "I wouldn't be too concerned." he whispered, "Do you really think that Miles is gonna act on whatever he thinks he is feeling? I've known him for a long time. He isn't going to initiate anything until he knows for sure it's what he wants."
Miles turned around in his desk to look at us. "So how did the date go?" He smirked.
I tried to hold in a laugh, "It wasn't exactly a date."
"Yeah we talked about it," Chewy said, "and we just aren't really into each other like that."
"It was really just a mutual friend zoning." I smiled.
Miles rolled his eyes, "Whatever." he said, turning his body back towards the front of the room.
Miles' POV
I sat at the table during lunch with Tristan.
"Hey Trist?" I asked, "Why don't you ever eat real food?"
All Tristan ever ate was salad and health foods.
He ruffled his lettuce leaves with his fork sheepishly, "I am eating real food." He refused to make eye contact with me.
"Well yeah, but you're 16 years old. Where are the chips and soda?"
"I eat healthy!" He snapped, "My bad! At least I'm eating. Would you rather me not do that at all?"
I stared at him in shock. He looked truly in pain. "You okay Trist?" I reached out and placed my hand on his shoulder. I had never seen him get like that before.
Tristan sighed, "Sorry. He apologized, "Last year I went through some bad stuff. I was a little bigger then. I tried to lose some weight to impress a guy. I ended up going about two weeks without eating and had a heart attack while doing yoga."
I swallowed my pizza hard. "You had a heart attack?"
"Yeah, I don't really want to talk about it." He looked away from me once again. "I managed to go through the remaining school year after it happened, as well as all of summer vacation, without anyone bringing it up. And I would like to keep it that way."
I was scared for Tristan. I never wanted to take my eyes off of him. What if he had died?! I can't imagine never meeting Tristan. He made my summer in Paris awesome. He's one of my best friends. I don't want to lose him.
What really scared me is how much I was scared for Tristan. Most people don't have that much of an impact on me. I didn't even know how to act.
"Hey guys!" Camryn yelled as she sat down at our table. Chewy took the seat next to her. And they say that it wasn't a date... I held back a smirk as I took another bite of my pizza.
"So what do you say we make this Friday movie night a regular thing?" Camryn asked, practically bouncing in her seat.
The four of us exchanged positive looks.
"My parents are normally gone on Fridays so it works for me." I shrugged my shoulders.
"Awesome!" Tristan exclaimed, "Let's do it!"
Camryn's POV
"We need to keep an eye on them." I said, watching Tristan and Miles at one of the cafeteria tables as I waited for Chewy to pay for his food.
"What's your plan?" He asked, clueless.
We walked down the steps to the tables slowly.
"You say Miles wont be the one to make the first move, right?" I reassured.
Chewy nodded, "Not unless he somehow admits it to himself that he likes Tristan. Which is about as likely as you and I dating."
I laughed. Chewy was the only person that I wasn't keeping any secrets from. Since our date on Saturday we have this new bond between us: Friendship. There was no chance of us actually dating each other.
"Do they hang out alone on weekends?" I questioned. "We need to be careful about that. The last thing we need is for Tristan to stage a "movie moment" and have them get together."
Chewy chuckled, "Well how are we gonna stop them from hanging out? They'll know there is something up with us."
I smirked at him. "We don't get them to stop hanging out. We just make sure they have less time to hang out alone."
I skipped over the the table that Tristan and Miles sat at. "Hey guys!" I greeted taking a seat across the table from them. Winston sat in the seat next to me. "What do you say we make this Friday movie night a regular thing?" I winked at Chewy as Tristan and Miles exchanged looks.
"My parents are normally gone on Fridays so it works for me." Miles said, chomping down on a piece of pepperoni pizza.
"Awesome! Let's do it!" Tristan yelled, a smile covering his face. It was obvious he was happy because that meant spending more time with Miles. Don't get your hopes up too high bro.
"Stop!" I whined as Zig was splashing water on me.
"It's not gonna kill you! It's just a little water." He said, splashing me once again.
"Just wash your hands!" I demanded, smiling at him. "I'll put your clay away."
I grabbed a couple paper towels and ran then under the water while Zig washed his hands. I could feel that heat radiate through my body and did anything to not let him see. I put the wet paper towels over his clay project to keep the clay usable before a wrapped it up in it's plastic bag and crouched down to place it on the shelf under his work space. As I was standing up again, I felt water rolling down my face. Turing around I saw Zig standing above me,smirking as he wrung out a sponge on my head. I moved my hair in front of my face and watched as beads of water dripped off the ends of it.
The rest of the class was back in the classroom waiting for the bell to ring. "You are so dead." I smiled at him, but he was already out the door and running down the hall. I chased after him into the hallway. I could feel the eyes of confused students peer out into the hallway as we blurred past their rooms. Zig wasn't even running fast and I still couldn't catch up to him. I reached out my hand and just barely missed the hood of his sweatshirt before we turned the corner.
"AHH!" Yelled a startled voice, followed by the sound of papers tumbling to the ground.
My heart stopped when I realized who we had ran in to. Standing in front of us with a death glare, was Principle Simpson.
