From Lily to Harry

My Darling Harry,

Oh, my son, I look forward to watching you grow from a baby to a boy, from a boy to a man, and seeing you read this when your first child is, as you are, six months old. I remember every minute from the moment you were born. I love everything about you, from your emerald eyes and messy, jet black hair, to your tiny fingers and toes. I love your bubbly little attitude and your enthusiasm for everything going on around you, despite the dark times we live in. I love the way your eyes light up when people come to visit, and your little gurgle that means 'hello'. The sight of you nodding and hearing your little claps of approval every time anyone says something in an Order Meeting brightens everyone's day, and reminds us what we are fighting for; a better future, and new hope.

I remember all your first moments, before we went into hiding. The first time we took you to Diagon Alley, the way your eyes popped at all the fireworks in Gambol & Japes, your little hand waving at the Goblins in Gringotts, your little squeals of laughter as you tried a toy broomstick in Quality Quidditch Supplies. I remember the surprise on your face when we bought you your first ice cream at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour; Sirius stuck his face in his, and you copied him, thinking that's how you were supposed to eat it. I don't think you realised that it was going to be so cold; you dropped your toy hippogriff in a puddle. Sirius had to dry it without magic, because it was his fault that you dropped it. You never stopped smiling that whole day, it was wonderful.

Oh, Harry, you have no idea how much your Daddy and I love you, and how much we appreciate everything you do for us. Though you are small, and probably don't realise what you do, you still do it. You listen and don't complain when we need someone to vent to, you cheer us up when we are bored and help calm Sirius down when he gets excited. You cheer when we cheer, laugh when we laugh, smile when we smile, and even when we're not doing anything, you do all three things and so, so much more. You sit and 'read' with me on full moons, when your Daddy goes out with Padfoot, Wormtail, and Moony. You play catch-the-coloured-smoke with your Daddy when he rests after the full moon. You are an amazing little boy and your parents love you. Always.

Love, Mummy xxx
