A/N: Goodness, I has been a while since I posted. That's not to say that I haven't been writing. I am hopefully going to start posting my next multi chapter story soon. But I wanted to add to this one first. It's one of the chapter ideas I had when I first started working on this story. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: Alas, I still own nothing. Just my dreams and fantasies which I am happy to say that Scott Caan was in one of my dreams the other night.

The Camaro came to a screeching halt in the parking lot of Grace's school. Danny barely had the car in park before he was jumping out and racing inside the building. The sound of his running feet echoed as he raced down the empty hallway. He had been sitting in his office exactly 14 minutes ago when he had received a phone call from Grace's cheerleading coach. It was the type of call he had been dreading since his little girl had become interested in Cheer.

Danny picked up speed as he saw other girls Grace's age appear in the empty corridor. They knew who he was and moved out of the way as he got closer. Danny practically ran into the door as he opened it. His footsteps echoed louder in the school's gymnasium. He slowed briefly to search for Grace and picked up speed again upon seeing her sitting on one of the bleachers with one leg elevated and a bag of ice covering her ankle.

"Danno," Grace said relieved that her father had arrived.

Danny saw Grace's face was tear streaked as he approached. He got down on his knees so he was eye level with her and took her hands in his. His first impulse was to ask if she was alright, but he already knew the answer. If she was alright then he wouldn't have been called. His second was to ask if it hurt, but again, the ice and the pained look on his daughter's face was a dead give away.

"I'm so sorry you got hurt, baby," Danny said as he squeezed her hands.

Grace sniffed and tried to put on a brave face for her dad. Grace's coach stood close by taking a close second as far as concern for Grace's condition. Her concern had nothing to do with being down a member of her squad, but with Grace's well being.

Danny pulled his hands away from Grace's and carefully lifted the ice bag to assess how bad his daughter's ankle was. Grace winced in pain causing Danny to fill a pang of guilt. He took in a deep breath seeing that the space between Grace's foot and calf was obviously swollen.

The detective didn't waste any time. He set the bag aside and lifted Grace into his arms. Again, Grace winced. Although, Danny was trying to be careful any movement caused the little girl pain. Grace's coach picked up the ice bag and followed the detective out of the gym. Danny, slower now, still walked as quickly as his legs would allow as he made his way to the exit. He realized that he had been in such a rush when he arrived that he had forgotten to lock his car. The car was right where he had left it so he didn't give it a second thought.

Danny hesitated as he got to the door and looked from the front to the cramped backseat. Although, Grace could elevate her foot in the back seat Danny worried that getting her in and out would be too painful of a process. Grace's coach opened the car door for Danny.

"Push the seat all the way back," he instructed.

The woman complied. As soon as she was done she got out of the car and moved back giving Danny space to set Grace down. He carefully put her inside doing his best to not jostle her foot. Although it was clear that any movement was aggravating Grace's already throbbing ankle.

"Sorry, baby, sorry," Danny said as Grace sucked in a sharp breath.

Grace's coach handed Danny the ice bag. He pressed it as best he could against her swollen ankle. He knew it probably wouldn't stay against her leg for the whole drive with nothing to keep it in place. Danny closed Grace's door and quickly thanked her coach promising he would call her with an update as soon as possible.

Danny hurried around to the driver's side and was soon speeding down the road. He seriously considered turning on his siren to get the slow Sunday drivers the hell out of his way. His moral compass is what kept him from flipping the switch. It didn't, however, keep him from speeding. Although, every time the car jerked, bumped, or moved Grace was cringing from the pain.

"Hold on, baby," Danny encouraged reaching over and squeezing her hand, "We'll be there soon."

Grace sucked a in a breath in response.

"Try to think about something else," Danny suggested trying to think of any way that he could ease the pain his daughter was feeling.

"Does that work for you?" Grace asked her face scrunched in pain, "You know when you've gotten hurt before."

It was no secret to Grace that sometimes her dad got hurt when he was doing his job although he did try to hide it from her.

"Yeah, baby, it works for me," he said trying to sound convincing.

Danny knew first hand how difficult it could be think about other things when your body was experiencing so much pain. Danny put his focus back onto his driving as he sped through the streets of Honolulu. It had taken less than 15 minutes for the detective to get from his daughter's school to the emergency room parking lot, but to Danny it had felt like hours. He wanted to make his daughter's pain go away instantly and he just couldn't.

Danny pulled into a parking space and was out of the car and around on the other side in no time at all. Danny picked up the ice pack and placed it in Grace's lap. Grace held onto it with one hand while the other wrapped her arm around Danny's neck. The detective lifted Grace back up. Using his foot, Danny shut the door and remembered to lock it this time. Danny jogged toward the door to the Emergency Room praying that it wasn't that busy.

There were only a few people waiting in the hard plastic chairs. Danny set Grace down across two chairs, and put the ice pack back onto her ankle.

"Be right back, Monkey," Danny said squeezing her shoulder.

Grace watched her dad hurry to the desk and begin explaining the situation to the nurse. He returned soon with a clipboard and pen. He sat down next to Grace. She leaned her back against his arm for support. It made it a little awkward to fill in the papers, but Danny adjusted. He wanted Grace to be as comfortable as possible. Danny was nearly finished with the paperwork when a nurse arrived with a wheelchair for Grace. Danny set the clipboard aside, stood, and lifted Grace from the hard plastic seats into the chair. He picked up the board and followed the nurse to an exam room. Danny moved Grace from the chair to the exam table. The nurse started to take Grace's vitals while Danny finished the last of the paper work. Grace winced as the nurse lifted her leg to get a better look at her ankle. Danny didn't like the look that came over the nurse's face.

"Do you think it's broken?" Grace asked.

Danny had wondered the same thing. Danny and Grace both knew if it was broken it would probably mean that Grace would not be able to participate and compete anymore in cheerleading for the rest of the season. Danny knew how much his daughter loved to cheer and his heart began to break at the thought of that being taken away from her.

"The doctor will need to take a look and will probably order an x-ray."

45 minutes later Grace was lying still on a table while the machine took pictures of the inside of her leg. Grace and Danny were then led back to the exam room to await the results. Danny handed Grace his phone. She opened up a game, but before she started playing she looked up with a thoughtful expression on her face.

"What is it, baby?" Danny asked.

"I think my backpack is still at school," she commented.

Danny cracked a half smile.

"I'm sure we can get a doctor's note or something and get you an extension on your homework."

Danny knew as well as Grace that it wasn't her homework that she wanted. Grace wanted her own cell phone.

She smiled back. Her ankle hurt a little less as long as she kept it iced and elevated.

Grace immersed herself in the game on Danny's phone, while Danny immersed himself in watching his daughter. A few minutes later Danny's phone began to vibrate.

"It's Uncle Steve," Grace said handing the phone to her dad.

Danny's partner was calling for an update on how Grace was doing. Danny filled him in and promised to call as soon as they had the x-ray results. A little while later the doctor arrived and announced that aside from a few pulled muscles there was no sign of a break. The doctor concluded that her ankle had severely twisted when she was dropped. He then prescribed I.B. profen for the pain and the swelling, but that she would need to stay off it for a few days. He would write her a doctor's note to excuse her from school for the rest of the week.

"How long before I can cheer again?" asked Grace.

"Well, that depends on how soon the swelling goes down and when you are able to walk on it without the pain killers, probably at least two weeks. Don't push it though. If you jump back in too soon then you could have additional problems."

Danny and Grace both nodded.

"You also may want to get a pair of crutches so you can move around on your own some," the doctor suggested.

Danny shook the doctor's hand and thanked him for all his help. Danny once again lifted Grace into his arms.

"I think the Doc's right about getting some crutches," Danny said smiling at his daughter, "You are not as light as you used to be."

H50

Danny held the glass door for Grace as she hobbled into the 5-0 HQ on her crutches the next day. Danny hadn't wanted to leave Grace by herself all day so he had brought her with him to work. He figured she could rest and recover just as well on the couch in his office as she could on the couch at home. He could still attend to her needs and do his job at the same time.

McGarrett, Chin, Kono, and Grover all came out to greet the pair. The first question was, of course, how Grace had been injured. Grace explained that she was working with a few other girls on her squad on an Extension to Cradle stunt. While coming out of it one of the girls supporting Grace lost her grip. Grace had come down hard on her ankle. She reassured her dad's colleagues that it was only a sprain and that she would be good as new in a couple of weeks.

Danny led Grace to his office and got her settled onto the couch. Steve came in with an ice bag for her ankle while Danny retrieved his tablet for Grace. Danny sat behind his desk and grabbed a file folder and got started. 5-0 was between cases right now which meant checking in on old cases. It allowed Danny to tend to his daughter. He covered her with a blanket when she was cold, brought her snacks, made sure she took her pain pills on schedule, and even sat and watch a show with her on the tablet. They were halfway through when Steve knocked on window. The look on the SEAL's face told the detective that they had caught a new case. Danny kissed Grace on the head and excused himself from his office. Grace continued to watch while Danny and the rest of 5-0 got to work. Danny stayed behind at HQ to do research so he could still attend to Grace. She fell asleep on the couch while her dad and his friends worked late into the night.

Over the next few days Grace began to feel better and no longer need the pain pills when she returned to school the following Monday. She remained on crutches, however, to ensure that everything was healing properly.

Nearly two weeks to the day since her accident Grace was cleared to once again participate with her cheer squad.

Another week and a half went by when Grace was surprised when Steve came to pick her up from her cheer practice instead of her dad. Grace wrapped an arm around Steve's mid section and he squeezed her shoulders and kissed the top of her head.

"Where Danno?" Grace asked.

Steve then explained that he and Danny had been chasing a suspect along a busy sidewalk. Danny moved quickly around a group of tourists and misjudged where the curb was and came down on his foot. Steve had tackled and cuffed the suspect when Danny came hobbling down the street. Although the detective insisted that he was fine Steve knew better. He called for HPD to book their suspect and he took Danny to the hospital. He then explained that the same doctor that had treated Grace also treated Danny and remarked at how similar the injuries were.

"Anyway you're Dad's on bedrest for the weekend," Steve remarked, "Do you think you can make sure he stays down?"

Grace laughed and nodded as Steve helped her into his truck.

Chin, Grover, and Kono were looking after the injured detective when Grace and Steve arrived. Danny was grumpily sitting on the couch with his leg up and an ice bag on his ankle.

"Don't worry Danno," Steve said with a smile, "I brought you your own personal nurse."

Grace leaned down and hugged her dad. Despite being injured he felt better with his daughter close by him. The team left soon after making sure the pair would have what they needed to get them through the next two days. Grace felt confident as they left. Danno always took care of her no matter what and now it was her turn to take care of him.
