The Nanny and The Butler

Disclaimer: I don't own any of this.

Since I've been up and down with the updating, I decided to include the epilogue in this chapter. Hope everyone enjoys and thank you so much for your reviews and reading it in the first place.

Annabeth had never felt this numbing fear before; nothing could have prepared her for it. Jason was clearly in danger, having given himself over to his crazy parents. She knew they weren't evil people but they would do anything to keep their money. Oh her brave, silly boy how could he do this?

Annabeth ran a hand through her hair as she paced across the tarmac. Percy was talking with Sally and Paul, trying to get them to remember if they had seen Jason before they got into the taxi. They were distraught about missing him.

Annabeth stopped pacing and scrambled through her pockets instead to find her phone. She needed to call her mom; Athena must be ready to move now. She swore when she realised that she had left it back in Sally's apartment. Looking around, she found Blackjack standing at the door of the plane.

"Blackjack!" she called, "I need your phone."

Percy looked over at her and by the time she had the phone in her hands, he was by her side. "Your mom?" he asked and Annabeth nodded.

"I may not know her new number but I know Clarisse's. One of them better answer me."

She dialled the number and put it on speaker phone. She started to get nervous as it rang but when she heard Clarisse's voice, she let out a breath.

"Clarisse! It's Annabeth, put my mom on right now."

"Annabeth? You're supposed to be somewhere safe, not calling me."

"I would be if Zeus and Hera didn't have Jason. Put my mom on."

She heard a muffling and then there was a rustling over the phone. "Annabeth, are you sure Jason is with them?" Athena said, getting straight to the point.

"He has to be," Annabeth replied, "He knows that Zeus and Hera want him or the others for something; of course he would protect his siblings like this. Do you know where they are?"

She could hear a beeping over the line, some people talking. "We've got eyes on them; they're at the penthouse. For some reason, they're hesitating here instead of leaving."

"Why would they do that?" Annabeth looked at Percy, "There's nothing at the penthouse that they really need; no clothes or laptops."

Percy frowned but he said, "What about the study? There was a bunch of stuff in there."

She remembered that; they had shut the door of that room, wanting to lock away anything of Zeus and Hera's while they still could. "Oh! Mom you have to stop them!" Annabeth said suddenly, even startling Percy. "They have a bunch of files in the office that we found before. I think some of it can lead back to the illegal stuff they were up to. They're going to destroy it."

Athena didn't respond right away, the phone line crackled and she seemed to be speaking very quickly to someone else.

"What's going on?" Percy asked, getting frustrated.

Athena sighed through the phone and she finally replied. "We're going to send a team in to stop them. We'll put them in lockdown and by the time they lawyer up and get out, my plan will be in place. They'll be bankrupt by dawn."

"What about Jason? He's in there with them," Percy pointed out.

"I'll try to keep him safe," Athena said, "But my focus must be Zeus and Hera. Stay out of this."

With that she hung up.

"Neither of you are going to stay out of it are you?" Sally asked but Annabeth was already checking on the kids and Percy was getting another taxi so they didn't hear her.

The trip back into the city was nerve racking and Percy was pretty sure that he jumped out of the taxi before it parked. Annabeth was right on his heels and they jogged towards their street. Before they could round the corner however, Clarisse appeared.

"Hold on there you two!" she ordered, "I can't have you messing up this mission."

"Jason-."

"I know about the kid, calm down. Let's get to your mom first."

Percy and Annabeth exchanged frustrated glances; they wanted to get Jason safe now, not have a chat. But they followed Clarisse to the back of the building, where the back doors were open. They lead to the laundry room and the kitchen of the Olympus Apartments. Residents could order food if they didn't want to cook. Annabeth had never needed to ask because they had Percy.

As they walked through the kitchens, she reached out and grabbed his hand. Without stopping, he squeezed it back and they finally saw Athena. She was gathered around a metal table, like a general going out to battle. Papers and maps were all over the table and there were people dressed up in police gear around her.

"If you go up in the elevator, then a direct attack would be best," they heard her say and it made Annabeth's stomach drop. The word "attack" used anywhere Jason could do that it her.

The man beside Athena shook his head and looked over the plans again. "The elevator is too direct; they'll know that we're coming."

"Well, there's no other entry to the penthouse."

"Yes, there is."

Everyone suddenly turned and stared at Percy, who just blinked back at them. He cleared his throat and continued, "There's a small door to the stairs near the elevator, in case of fire. You have to get through that door and then there's another door that leads to the rest of the stairs for security reasons."

He looked at Annabeth. "The only reason we didn't think of it when that guy broke in is because you need keys and Zeus and Hera don't have any."

"So, you send the elevator up as a distraction but used the stairs instead," Annabeth stated, turning back to her mother.

Athena glanced between the two of them before pulling out another map. She scanned and suddenly jabbed a finger at the maps. "Damn drawings are faded; that's how we didn't see it. Alright everyone, gather around!"

Percy and Annabeth were pushed back by men with guns and tear gas. "She can't send them up on the attack with Jason there!" Annabeth hissed but Percy held her back.

"Your mom isn't going to listen and to be honest; these guys are the best way to get him out of there. It's Jason, he's a smart kid...he'll be fine."

She knew he was right, she knew there was nothing they could do. But that didn't mean she was in anyway happy about it.

Jason hadn't moved from his spot on the couch. He hadn't even looked at Hera, who was tapping away on her phone. He could hear Zeus clattering away in the office and the buzzing of the shredder. Jason didn't really want to know what he was up to. Biting his lip, Jason took in a shallow breath and ordered himself not to think about the others.

Suddenly, he heard another sound over the shredder; a more familiar sound. He listened carefully and Hera turned her head.

"Is that the elevator?" she asked out loud and Zeus appeared at the top of the stairs.

"Does anyone else have those damn key cards they installed?" he asked, hurrying into the living rom.

Hera stood up and shook her head. "We barely got our own one."

His parents went towards the hallway but Jason kept still. There was small ding from the elevator but what followed was a loud bang.

Jason jumped and, on instinct, slide off the couch and went under the coffee table. He covered his head with his arms as there were shouts and yells, too loud in his ears. He was breathing heavily when he saw boots and legs walking around the apartment. A man's head looked under the table and he held out his gloved hand.

"Jason? Percy and Annabeth have been looking for you, kid."

Jason swallowed thickly, the smoke making his eyes water. But he put out his hand anyway.

"If someone doesn't answer my questions in ten seconds, I am grabbing one of those stun guns and using it with full force!" Annabeth hissed.

She and Percy had moved out to the front of the apartments but Athena wasn't telling them anything. There a number of her people dotted around the street and in such a well known area, it was only a matter of time before someone noticed and called the media.

She wanted to get Jason away before that. The other three kids had gone ahead with Sally and Paul to Poseidon's house and Annabeth just wanted them all together to deal with whatever was going to come their way next. She really just wanted to get Jason out of the penthouse.

"I hate standing around here," Percy grumbled, tapping his fingers against her hand. Through the glass doors of the apartments, Annabeth suddenly saw the elevator doors open. In the middle of a bunch of men in black outfits, Jason stood looking utterly confused. He saw them through the glass and sprinted towards them, slamming the doors open. He ran into them both and they just stood there on the street, hugging him tightly.

"Don't you ever do that to us again!" Annabeth ordered, pushing back Jason's sweaty hair. She took in his red eyes and shaking form and just hugged him again. She looked over to see Athena strolling towards them, a phone in her hand. Percy put a hand on her back but Annabeth didn't let go of Jason. Athena glanced at the boy but turned back to her daughter.

"We've got Zeus and Hera; you were right, they were getting rid of evidence."

Annabeth nodded and Athena saw the exhaustion on all their faces. "Why don't I get you three a ride to Poseidon's place; I'll even escort you."

Percy and Annabeth didn't think having both Athena and Poseidon in the same area was a good idea but they did need a lift to the coast. So they nodded and followed Athena to a dark car. Percy and Jason climbed in but Annabeth gave one last look up at the penthouse.

"Annabeth?" Jason said with worry.

She turned back to see him sitting in the car and she smiled as she sat in beside him.

They arrived at the beach house late at night; Annabeth could hear and smell the ocean but couldn't see a thing. The porch light was on and Poseidon was sat on a deck chair with a paper. He stood up when the car pulled in.

Percy jumped out with a sleepy Jason and immediately set about putting him to bed with the other three. Annabeth and her mom got out the other side and went to Poseidon instead. The two adults seemed to size each other up for a moment before Poseidon held out his hand in a friendly gesture.

Athena shook it and Annabeth took the opportunity to ask, "When will your plan start?"

Athena and Poseidon exchanged weary glances and her mother replied, "It already has. By morning, the police will be making arrests."

Annabeth looked at Poseidon and gestured towards the front door. "Do you want me to get Percy or Tyson?"

Poseidon paused but shook his head. "No let the boys sleep. Plus Athena and I could use this time to catch up."

Athena raised an eyebrow at him and he added, "I have beer."

Shrugging, her mother sat down on another deck chair. Annabeth wanted to laugh; she didn't even know her mother like beer.

"Goodnight you two," she said as she went inside.

Just before the door closed, she could swear that she heard Poseidon say, "Now, about that bet of ours..."

The next morning, the news went into a feeding frenzy. All of the Olympians had been arrested and their assets either already given away or frozen. Luke and Thalia had been given the number of the beach house to call Annabeth and neither of them was very happy with her keeping this a secret.

Percy had gotten breakfast ready for the kids as she tried to calm them down over the phone.

Poseidon and Athena had driven to the local police station early in the morning to avoid cop cars speeding into the driveway and hitting the mail box. Tyson kept the kids busy out on the beach; the weather was getting warmer so they went swimming.

Percy distracted himself by setting up a barbecue, preparing the food first in the kitchen. Annabeth sat up on the counter and clutched a glass of juice. "How are you feeling?" she asked, watching him chop some vegetables.

He shrugged slightly before replying. "I'm alright. I knew he was going to get arrested but now that it's actually happened..."

He put the vegetables in a bowl and cleaned his hands. "We'll have to see if the courts will go easier on him and Athena for their clear remorse. Zeus and Hera will definitely be locked up. Now I'm just wondering where that leaves the kids."

Annabeth looked out at the window, past the seahorse wind chimes to see Jason and Leo dunking a bucket of water over Tyson's head; Hazel and Katie were building a sandcastle, including a very impressive moat.

"Well, that's what my mom told me last night in the car. I think the kids are just fine."

Percy looked at her, a question in his eyes. So Annabeth put down the glass and explained. "Mom said that the money transfers to each account were perfectly legal. All the funds in the kids' names now technically belong to them."

Percy's eyebrows flew up and Annabeth laughed. "They're the richest kids in the city," she said and Percy let out a low whistle.

"We better not tell them; they'd blow it all on candy," he replied.

They laughed again but then Percy got serious and asked, "What about legal guardians? They have no other relatives, whose going to look after them?"

She could see the defensiveness in his eyes; he didn't want just anyone raising the kids he cared about. Annabeth sighed and pulled him to stand in between her legs. She wrapped her fingers around the collar of his shirt and looked at him.

"That was the other thing my mom suggested. She thought it would be a good idea for us to look after them. We have a good case since we've been in their lives so long and with good references from the academy."

Percy nodded, biting his lip as his thought. "It would be until they're all over eighteen right?" he asked, "With Hazel, that would be over ten years. Are you sure you want to make that commitment with school as well?"

Annabeth scowled at him, tugging at his collar. "Of course I am! Are you?"

Percy looked utterly confused. "What? I thought it was implied that I'd look after them anyway. But Annabeth, this was just supposed to be a short term job for you until you get enough for school."

"It's not anymore, you know that," she insisted, "Even before all of this went down, I knew that I'd be staying on. I want to make sure these kids are ok."

Percy wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her forward. "So, we're going to raise four kids, who have millions in the bank and surely will grow to be annoying teenagers?"

Annabeth winched. "Yah, that's true...we could run for it?"

That only drew another laugh and Percy kissed her hard before pulling back. "There's no point; the kids would track us down."

"Ew!"

They looked over to the door to see Jason and Hazel standing there, the older brother covering his sister's eyes. "This is a kitchen!" he said while Hazel squirmed around.

Annabeth jumped off the counter and walked over to them. "Yes, it is and it's no place for puddles. So get dry on the porch," she said and shooed them out the door.

One Year Later

"Piper, sweetie, would you like another drink?" Annabeth asked; a tray of food balanced in one hand.

Piper looked up at her from her seat on the couch, holding an empty. "Oh, yes please," she replied and Annabeth gave Jason a pointed look.

He jumped up from his place beside Piper and took her glass. "Come on, we can get some cupcakes in the kitchen while we're there," he suggested the two of them hurried off.

Annabeth watched them go, shaking her head. "Oh young love," she heard behind her.

Turning around, she saw Luke and Thalia sitting on one of the armchairs. It matched the couch and fit in with the spacious living room of the new apartment. It wasn't exactly the Olympian Apartments penthouse but it was big enough to fit four kids and two adults. It was near the Academy and Annabeth could drop the kids off on her way to college. Luke and Thalia were constant visitors now that they had worked things out about Hermes.

Annabeth didn't always like to dwell on the Olympians, who were either locked up or serving their sentences helping the community, like Poseidon and the ocean conservation project up the coast or her Mom and the private security.

The apartment was also the perfect size for small birthday parties, like Hazel's. Balloons covered the ceiling and Leo went a little overboard with the streamers. He was running around with Travis and Conner while Katie and her friends were trying to ignore them. Hazel already had chocolate over her face and Sally and Paul were riveted by the story of her recent run in with the tooth fairy.

Percy came out of the kitchen with the last few slices of birthday cake on a tray and she winked at her friends before joining her boyfriend at the dining room table. She put the food down and turned around to lean against the table.

Percy copied her and they both looked around the apartment. "You know, I didn't expect to end up here when I took a butler's job all those years ago," Percy muttered.

He was working in a restaurant now, one of the head chefs which had suddenly become quite famous for its blue food.

Annabeth linked her arms through his and leaned her head against his shoulder. It wasn't exactly what she expected either; who knew that escorting some kids back home would lead to all of this. "It's not a bad place to end up," she muttered and he grinned at her.

He was about to kiss her when there was a sudden crash and a scream. Silence followed and they heard Leo say, "Uh oh..."

Annabeth let out a sigh and asked, "It never stops does it?"

Percy shrugged and before he went off to sweep up the mess, he gave her a slice of cake and firm kiss.

Annabeth laughed and took a bite of the cake. No, she thought, this wasn't a bad at all.
