Journey

I set out for Lemuria,

Knowing that the road is long.

Igniculus is by my side,

Helping me be strong.

At long road's end is Night's dark queen,

Who holds sun, stars and moon.

Darkened is my journey,

Above the sky is gloomed.

I meet many foes along the road,

Enemies I'm forced to slay.

I try to cleanse my sword of blood,

But rust's course I just delay.

My companion calls it necessary,

They're to the queen aligned.

And that is true, I tell myself,

Yet I feel guilt of crime.

For my soul is in Lemuria,

Can it be retrieved?

Can my heart be salvaged,

Or is my spirit lost to breeze?

Villages and towns I visit,

Wisdom taken, trust is earned.

Of my foes and of the world,

I take the time to learn.

But ever onward I must press,

My sword still in my hand.

The final conflict beckons,

To decide fate of the land.

They say the journey matters more,

Than what lies at the end.

I think, there might be truth to this,

As I glance towards my friend.

But my destination always beckons,

As does the Queen of the Night.

I can't indulge in just the journey,

For the time has come to fight.

So Lemuria, I've reached at last,

And the gate I open wide.

So now looms the final battle,

And one of us must die.

A/N

As part of an online media course I've undertaken, this included the study of the poem Ithaca, how it stresses that the journey is more important than the destination and whatnot. Didn't really set this out to be a counterpoint, but hey, something I came up with as a result.
