A/N: Written for The A-Maze-Ing Race Challenge on the anime and manga fanfiction challenges forum, for the pairing Adam Kadamon/Sara Mudo.

This takes place on a bit of a floating timeline, and I'm not convinced the place where Adam Kadamon resides when he's not interacting with Earth runs on the same continuity of time as Earth does…or even as the Heavens do, if Sevothtarte was attempting to reset it.

The Children of Adam Kadamon Seraphita

Sara Mudo.

You're…

He shakes his head. It was a mistaken thought, of course. She may be the sister of Setsuna Mudo, Alexiel's reincarnation, but she could not be Rosiel. Rosiel whose body and soul was still slowly being eaten away even outside his seal…

For a moment, he sees the poor girl who had been Katan's final sacrifice.

Then he is looking at Sara Mudo again, looking at her sharp tongue lashing out at the glares that followed her. Lashing out at the woman called her mother, lashing out even at her dearest brother…

'I love you!' she cries, beating his chest with her little balled fists. 'I love you; no one else! And I don't care what Mother says. I don't care what anyone says!'

…and he remembered another voice – two voices – talking eons ago…

'Most of all, who do you love?'

'You God. I love you.'

'Liar!'

For Alexiel claimed to love God most of all, but her heart belonged to Rosiel…

'Sara…I don't love you.'

'Liar!'

…just like Setsuna Mudo's heart belongs to Sara, no matter how much his words deny it.

But that girl…she was no ordinary girl, he could tell. His blood was in her as well, somehow…even if it wasn't as strong as in Setsuna, his daughter's reincarnate. Rosiel was the younger of the two, the one whose blood had waned over the years of his imprisonment, but still…Rosiel lived. Rosiel's soul remained trapped in that rotten body; it could not have passed on. He would know if it had. But not Rosiel, then one of the Archangels it must be, though he was sure Sara Mudo was the guardian sent by God to follow Setsuna.

Surely he wouldn't play such a dangerous game.

Uriel? No, Uriel guarded the underworld still. Michael? Raphael? He could see them both. Gabriel? She sat in her garden, as still and silent and soulless as always…

He saw the game Sevothtarte was playing now. And even if he saw it light years before, or after, it would always be too late. Earth was just programmed set to fail after all. Alexiel and Rosiel were his children; Setsuna was his child.

Sara….

Sara was…

If she was the obstacle in Sevothtarte's path, then she may be their salvation. The salvation of his children, and his salvation too.

…salvation.
