This is all so bittersweet. One the one hand I'm so glad that I finally finished and on the other hand I'm very sad that this story is ending. I have been thinking of sequel ideas for it and I've come up with a few. Once I get something solid I'll start writing. I want to thank you all so much for sticking with me and to everyone who reviewed, followed and favorited you are simply the best! I do not own anything and no profit was made.
The day was dark and gray. Snow covered the ground of the cemetery. With each foot step she disturbed more the the perfectly packed snow. She felt that this was a perfect metaphor for her life. Every time she found something perfect she ruined it. She must have looked quite the sight as she wandered towards the headstone. Heels clacked loudly on the side walk that lead the way, her red coat blew back with every gust of wind. The coat stood out against the blinding white of the snow. That was why Mike and Matt felt comfortable letting her walk alone, they could see her from where she was parked.
She let out a loud labored sigh as she approached the granite headstone. Her tears trickled down her cheek and burned her. She avoided this place for weeks. There was too much pain, too much longing.
It was just a simple marker. A lighter shade of gray that really popped with the black lettering of the name. She collapsed in front of it. Loud sobs racked through her and Mike and Matt shared a look wondering whether they should go to her or not. They both let each other know with a silent nod that this was something she had to do her self.
She traced his name lightly as she sobbed. It was a slow painful process as she committed the lettering to her memory in painstaking detail. The sharp points of the A cut through her like a knife, each new letter brought more grief.
SAMUEL EVANS
Loving father, husband and friend.
"I'm sorry." She cried to the man underground as if her could hear her. "I'M SORRY!" She cried to the sky. "This is my fault." She sighed. "I did this. I always do this. I bring destruction to everything I touch." Silence sliced through her as if God was answering her, telling her that everything she was saying was true and that she needed to be alone.
"Oh God!" She jumped at the voice. "Of course it's your fault." She turned and the sheer blonde locks shocked her at first. "All of this is your fault." The blonde girl with the pointed face and angry green eyes walked very carefully towards her. "You came into a world that you don't belong to and that you don't understand." Rachel turned to look for Matt and Mike, but they were gone. SO was the car. "What did you think was going to happen? That we were all going to just welcome you with open arms?" the giggle sounded like a musical trill, but It shot chills through Rachel's body.
"Quinn." Rachel said coldly acknowledging the woman in front of her.
"Rachel." She smiled. "Now you're alone...You're all alone."
"Stay away from me." Rachel said as she slowly backed up, preparing herself to run.
"Oh..." Quinn smiled and shook her head furiously. "It's not me you have to worry about."
Before Rachel could say anything someone grabbed her from behind. Strong arms gripped her throat and pulled her back towards them. She felt hot breath in her ear and on the side of her face and she began to struggle harder. She screamed, but her panic was only met by tiny giggles from Quinn and a loud manly chuckle.
"I've got you Shelby." Her heart dropped. She knew that voice and as she turned her face she came eye to eye with Russel Fabray. "I've got you." He smiled.
Rachel screamed and struggled as hard as she could against the hands that held her. Firm hands grabbed at her arms her legs her face. She Kicked and screamed flailing about. Trying anything to get away.
"Rachel!" She knew that voice. "Rachel! Rachel, baby, I'm here!" She opened her eyes to see Sam staring at her worriedly. "I'm here. I've got you."
"They were there!" She screamed at her husband.
"Who?" He immediately went rigid at the thought of someone being in his house. "Who was here?"
"Quinn!" Her eyes were wide with terror. She could no longer control the volume of her voice. "Quinn and Russel Fabray! They were here!"
"Rachel," His eyes softened as he spoke. This had been happening more often these days. The nightmares were nearly unbearable to watch. Sometimes he couldn't wake her up and he just had to sit and watch her scream and cry out for help. He hated feeling useless, he hated watching her suffer. "Quinn and Russel are dead. They've been dead for nearly a year."
"NO!" She grabbed onto his arms. "They were here, you were gone and you couldn't protect me. He was dragging me away! He was calling me Shelby."
"Rachel," His voice remained quiet, but had an air of authority now. "Rachel, you sound crazy baby. I'm alive, I'm fine. Noah is sleeping in the other room, perfectly safe and Quinn and Russel Fabray are six feet under."
He watched her face change from Panic and terror to calmness and understanding. She was starting to come around. Her eyes darted to every dark corner of their room, searching for anything out of the ordinary. He pushed her hair back from her face and smiled.
"There's nothing there." He whispered.
"I know." She breathed out slowly. Her eyes continued to search.
"Rachel," He said desperately. "There's no one here, but you and I." He kissed her forehead gently. He thought for a moment. She was already seeing a psychiatrist, one who knew the family business and was well aware of everything that had gone down, he couldn't have a squawking parrot now could he? Kurt! Kurt always calmed her down, well Kurt and Finn, not that he was too fond of the last man, but desperate times right? "Why don't you go to see Kurt?"
"Now?"
"Well it's 6 am." He said looking at his phone. "He's probably up, go get a coffee. Talk. It will make you feel better."
"I'll take Noah with me." She nodded with a smile.
"I think that's a wonderful idea." He took a deep breath. "I have some business to take care of."
"Oh." She said with a surprise face. She had just sent a text to Kurt telling him to meet her at the small coffee shop just off 2nd street. He responded quickly with a yes. "Well...just be careful and remember my rules." She smirked as she threw on a pair of pants.
"No blood in the house." He rolled his eyes and groaned.
"Exactly." She nodded. "I'm going to go get Noah. I'll see you in a little bit." She kissed him on the cheek and quickly ducked out of the room.
Noah was a little clone of his father. His hair was a bright blonde and his green eyes seemed to sparkled perfectly every time the sunlight hit them. He had nothing of Rachel and that annoyed her more than she would admit. She pushed the stroller a little faster as Kurt's outline grew larger. He was on the phone, but waving them over.
"Rachel!" He smiled. "No! I gotta go Blaine. No!" He shouted into his phone. "Rachel's here I have to go." He hung up without waiting for a reply. "Rachel" He hugged her tightly. "and baby Noah!"
"Gahe"Noah burbled happily in his stroller.
"He is just the spitting image of Sam isn't he?" Kurt laughed.
"Yes." She smiled. Kurt immediately noticed it's falseness.
"What's wrong?" His eyes narrowed. "You don't have someone coming after you do you?"
"No Kurt." She giggled. "Calm down. I just..." She trailed off unsure of how to broach the subject. Kurt knew just about everything, even the fact that Rachel killed Quinn, but no one knew about the nightmares, just Sam.
So she started from the beginning. She went over Jesse and Noah. She talked about meeting Sam and Noah's problem. She even talked about Santana's crush on her. Kurt was stunned to say the least, but he remained quiet and listened as best he cold.
"You've had quiet the busy time." He said sadly. "not that your life was ever easy...the sins of the father."
"What?" she raised an eyebrow.
"It's a saying...the sins of the father will past on to the son...You're suffering for what happened before you were even alive." He looked at her sadly. "And it's not fair Rachel I understand that, but you can't let your mother's mistakes be your own. Especially now that you have little Noah here. Don't let your sins be passed on. You'll get past this...you're strong. You always have been." Rachel smiled at him warmly. "And I'm here for you, so is Sam and even Finn. We all love you Rachel."
"Thank you Kurt." She grinned from ear to ear. "I really needed to here that." She let out a loud sigh. "I need to get Noah home." She looked at the sleepy baby in the stroller. His eyes were barely staying open.
"Alright." He nodded. "Are you going to be okay?"
"I'll get there." She said with a smile before pushing baby Noah back towards home.
He was passed out by the time they reached the front door. She quickly walked him upstairs to his room and smiled at him as he slept peacefully in his bed. He looked like an angel with that bright blonde hair spread out across his bed. Rachel kissed his cheek and quietly walked downstairs towards the kitchen. Just as she passed the basement door she heard a loud moan. She thought for a moment before opening the door and slowly making ehr way downstairs.
What she saw stopped her heart. Sam stood there, Mike and Matt stood at his sides unmoving. There was a man tied to a chair and he was doing his best to escape his binds, but to no avail. They were tied tightly. She watched for a moment as Sam punched him once more before stepping back and wiping his hand off.
"SAMUEL EVANS!" She screamed as she made it to the bottom of the stairs.
"Shit." He muttered to himself.
"Just what do you think you're doing?" She narrowed her eyes at Sam and watched him squirm.
"Help-"She heard the man in the chair stutter out. "Help me!" He cried out to her. She rolled her eyes before crossing the room and picking up a pipe that was sitting against the wall. She walked back towards him quickly striking him across the face successfully knocking him out.
"Alright problem number one dealt with." She rolled her eyes. "What the hell do you think you're doing? What's my rule?"
"No blood in the house." All three men said like small children being scolded.
"And is that my kitchen chair?!" None of the men would look at her. "You're buying me new ones." She narrowed her eyes. "You know I expected this from Sam, but I'm disappointed in the two of you." She pointed a finger at them once more before she stalked up the stairs.
"You're in trouble boss." Mike chuckled.
"No." Sam smiled at the thought of Rachel returning to normal. "I think we all are."
