(5) Homebound

The group all sat in silence as they travelled from the airport back to their base. R had his eyes closed and it looked like he was sleeping.

But I knew better. His breathing was to harsh for him to just be asleep and his eyes were moving to much for him to be in the land of dreams.

He was thinking.

What he was thinking about, I wasn't sure, but I could tell that he was thinking and he was thinking hard.

WHen we were about a mille from the base, R opened his eyes and looked around him. He looked to his family - who were all determined to stay in his life eventhough he can't remember them and no one was sure if he ever will, M - who helped him when he was a zombie, stayed by his side no matter what and then myself and my dad. We had given him a home and I, apparently, had given him a reason to live.

R smiled softly to himself.

"You okay?" I asked him, he looked up at me.

"I think so" he answered. I kept looking at him.

"I was thinking about my future. Where will I go? Will I stay with you and live with my family?" said R. But I knew he had something up his sleeve.

"What do you want to do?" asked Susan, having overheard our conversation.

"Me, erm, I want to get a flat, you know, for me and M. Somewhere near both of your houses in case we ever need help" said R.

"I'm sure we can think of something" my Dad told me as we started to drive through the streets.

It turns out that there was a flat. It was on the same street as us, and down from it was a two bedroom house that the people staying there didn't want to stay there anymore but wanted to get out into the world to find their family so they agreed to give it to R's family.

R and M moved there as soon as my dad would let them. We all went round for Friday night dinner every week until M and R were ready to separate from one another. M did have a girlfriend on the go, and R had me.

The group were sitting the living room - R and M eating light food as their stomachs were still getting used to not having the zombie diet - and we were all talking, just having a laugh.

"Becks, I still remember that time that you fell of swing, didn't even mark your skin and yet you screamed for hours on end" laughed R, a huge smiled on his face.

He didn't even notice.

The End.
