"The bang was like a cannon blast, and then golden flames erupted between them," Hermione told them.
"The Elder Wand flew high across the room and your Uncle Harry caught it," Draco told them, "and Voldemort fell backwards, dead. He was killed by his own rebounding curse," Draco couldn't help but sneer.
"Everyone celebrated," Hermione told them, "they were shouting and hugging but it wasn't all good news."
"Friends were dead... families were broken..." Draco sighed, "we gathered all the bodies together."
"There were so many," Hermione frowned, "Your Uncle Fred..."
"Tonks and Lupin," Draco nodded sadly.
"Colin Creevey," Hermione sighed, "there were so many."
"McGonagall replaced the House tables, but nobody sat according to House anymore; they were all jumbled together, teachers and pupils, ghosts and parents, centaurs and house-elves," Draco smiled.
"When everyone finally left your Uncle Harry alone, he took a seat next to your Aunty Luna."
"She's pretty amazing, you're aunty Luna," Draco grinned, "she caused a distraction so Harry could get away from the crowd."
"My dad didn't seem to know what to make of it all," Draco continued, "they apologised to your mum that day for the way they had treated her... for what they had done to her."
Hermione smiled sadly at her husband, kissing his hand. "Ron was sat with us – he felt so awkward."
"He looked awkward to," Draco laughed. "The days that followed were a bit random."
"A bit?" Hermione chuckled.
"Bloody manic if we're honest," Draco grinned. "We stayed for a while, helped rebuild the castle. Everyone helped. Believe it or not, even your grandparents helped."
"We had to do all these interviews," Hermione laughed, "and we spent a lot of time with your grandparents asking them questions about veela."
"Miss Granger, you are free to ask us any questions you may have," Narcissa smiled at the young girl in front of her.
Hermione nodded, recalling something she had once read in one of her school textbooks. The Veela are a race of semi-human, semi-magical humanoids reminiscent of the Sirens of Muggle Greek Mythology. They are known for their youthful, beautiful appearance. They can perform their own magic without the aid of a wand...
"I read somewhere that Veela's have their own magic... is that the same as wandless magic." Mr Malfoy grinned, "although we do not require a wand to perform this particular type of magic it is very different to normal wandless magic. We can launch balls of fire from our hands for one thing."
"Wow," Hermione's eyes were wide.
"We're not so attractive when we're angry," Mr Malfoy laughed. "We've been compared to harpies... cruel-beaked bird heads... long scaly wings..."
"Sound positively delightful," Hermione laughed.
Mrs Malfoy smiled at Hermione, "Veela often marry other Veela and sometimes marry others from the magical community."
"Their mates are chosen by fate?" Hermione asked.
"Indeed," Mr Malfoy grinned.
"What I don't understand is how Draco is a full Veela when you," Hermione looked to Narcissa, "you aren't a Veela."
"Ah... Well, it is much like being a witch or wizard. Sometimes even Muggles can have magical children," Narcissa smiled, "Two mated Veela's won't automatically have a Veela child."
Hermione frowned as Lady Malfoy explained, "All children born from a Veela are half-veela by default. They will show some veela traits but it isn't until they come of age that they will enter into their inheritance or not."
Hermione nodded, "so our children..."
"Will be half veela until they come of age," Draco smiled shyly, "and perhaps they will become full Veela when they turn seventeen."
"How long do we have?" Hermione sighed.
"A few weeks," Draco answered. "It's my birthday in three weeks."
Hermione nodded, "ok... we need to plan a wedding."
Narcissa literally squealed with delight, "we can do that my dear."
"Thank you Mrs Malfoy," Hermione smiled.
"No... No more Mrs Malfoy... Narcissa, Cissa... whatever you want... mum even, if you wish, but please no more Mrs Malfoy..."
"Alright," Hermione grinned, "thank you Narcissa. Where do we start?"
"Ah... first we need to set the date," Narcissa smiled.
"How about two weeks today?" Hermione asked.
Draco and Lucius grinned as Narcissa fell into organisational mode. "Lucius send an owl to Monsieur Laccolt."
"Yes dear," Lucius nodded as he made his way to his writing desk.
"Monsieur Laccolt?" Hermione asked.
"The Malfoy Family's official wedding planner," Narcissa explained. "First thing we must do is send out save the date cards..." Narcissa frowned, "Lucius could you also owl Monsieur Conte."
"Monsieur Conte?"
"The family's photographer," Draco explained.
Hermione nodded. Narcissa continued, "can you see if they are both available for this afternoon." Narcissa turned back towards Hermione, "this afternoon we will have a quick engagement photoshoot so that we can use one of the photos for your save the date cards. They will need to go out in the morning." Hermione smiled shyly, nodding her head, listening closely. "We will also have to inform the prophet."
"Do we have to?" Hermione and Draco moaned at the same time.
Lucius chuckled, "it would be far better if we gave them the story than if they found out themselves. I'll write to the paper as well as ask for them to send a reporter over later this afternoon. We will give them an exclusive – even some of the photos from your photoshoot today."
Narcissa called for a house-elf, "Flo, will you get Lucius' mother's enagement ring."
"Yes Mistress," the house-elf bowed.
Draco wrapped an arm around Hermione's waist, "we need to decide who we are going to invite."
Hermione nodded, "we should do that now... so we can send out the save the date cards."
Hermione suddenly frowned. "What's wrong love?" Draco asked.
"My parents," Hermione sighed, "I need to find them. They are living in Australia. I erased their memories to keep them safe."
Draco wiped away a tear from her eye, "We'll find them."
Lucius turned to face the pair on the sofa, "I'll sort that out – I've got some friends who can help me. I'll leave first thing tomorrow."
"Thank you," Hermione rushed towards Lucius and gave him a hug. He was rather caught off guard but he patted her on the back gently.
Draco gave Hermione a quick tour of the manor before pulling her into the library. "This is my favourite room and I have a feeling it's going to be yours as well."
Hermione grinned, "You know me pretty well, don't you."
Draco chuckled, "so who are we going to invite to this thing?"
"I don't know – what size wedding is your mother expecting?"
"LARGE," Draco grinned, "she doesn't do anything by half."
"Ok... so I'd like to invite Harry, Ron, the Weasley's..."
"And I'd like to invite Theo, Blaise, Pansy..."

"He's an ex..."
"As is Ron... Pansy...?"
"That's different, Hermione. They're our close friends as well."
"Well he's my friend," Hermione replied.
"Ok," Draco conceded, "I give in."

When their list was finally completed they returned to the sitting room where Mr and Mrs Malfoy were sat. "Now what?" Draco asked.
"Well dears, the photographer will be here shortly," Mrs Malfoy began, "I was thinking you could have some photos done outside in the garden and a few inside the house."
"Sounds good," Draco smiled.
"You need to think about a venue," Lucius grinned.
"Obviously you are welcome to have the wedding here but you might like to have it somewhere else. The choice is yours."
"I want to get married at my family's home," Hermione sighed, "it's a family tradition. My parents were married there; my grandparents were married there..."
Narcissa smiled, "Ok, we'll have to show the house to Monsieur Laccolt. You are going to need bridesmaids, a best man, ushers..."
"Well, that's easy," Hermione grinned, "Ginny will be my maid of honour, Luna and Fleur will be my bridesmaids... oh and Pansy of course – she's one of your best friends."
Draco smiled, "thank you. Blaise will be my best man. Theo, Potter and Weasley can be the Ushers."
"You'd do that for me?" Hermione laughed.
"I'd do anything for you," Draco replied earnestly.
"The wedding planner will arrange most of the details, the band, the caterer, wedding cars, flowers. Where do you want to go for your honeymoon?"
"Honeymoon?" Hermione frowned, "Merlin, I hadn't even thought about that!"
Lucius chuckled, "Italy is a lovely location – Venice, Florence, Rome..."
"I've always loved Italy," Hermione smiled.
"Italy it is then," Draco grinned.
"I'll book the seamstress for tomorrow afternoon," Narcissa smiled at her new daughter. Hermione nodded, "sounds good."
