Chapter Six

Bella's PoV

Embry led me through town to a decent sized house on the outskirts, holding my hand the whole time. When we knocked on the door, Quil opened it. When he saw me, his face lit up, but hardened almost as quickly when he saw Embry.

"Bella, Embry, What can I do for you?" Quil's voice was carefully neutral, only his eyes betraying how hurt he actually was. I remembered what Jacob had said in his garage ages ago. I pieced that together with the information that I had just gathered. Embry phased, and for Quil's protection, ditched him, without saying anything. I know how that feels. I'm going to have to s talk with Embry about that. I was broken out of my thoughts of friendship-fixing when Embry started talking.

"Is your grandfather home?" I could hear a faint tinge of remorse and pain in Embry's voice, but only because I was listening closely. Yep, I'm definitely going to have to fix this.

"I'll go get him." Quil replied sulkily. I realised that this definitely hurt him more than he was letting on.

Quil disappeared around a corner, and was back and was back in 30 seconds, disappearing from view moments later into a room down the hall, closing it harder than probably necessary. At the same moment, Quil's grandfather started walking towards Embry and I, closing the front door behind him. Old Quil glanced at me, then turned to Embry.

"Imprinted, huh?" he rasped in a voice cracked with age, but there was a mischievous glint in his wise eyes. Embry nodded sheepishly, and Old Quil grinned.

"But there's something else. Someone else phased." Embry said, and Old Quil looked shocked. "We're meeting at Sam and Emily's." Old Quil nodded, and walked out to the car port, to where an old Chevy truck, not unlike mine, was parked.

"I'll meet you there, Young Ones." Old Quil replied, opening the driver's side door and climbing in.

Embry and I started jogging towards the forest, and as soon as Old Quil was out of sight, we glanced at each other and sprinted into the forest at full speed. It was amazing to actually be able to run fast, and not trip over things! We reached the place that we phased back into human form before, I shoved Embry farther into the trees so I could phase. It turned out the more I phased, the easier it got. When I was phased, I felt only Embry and Jacob's presence in my mind. I tuned out Jacob's constant apologies, and concentrated on where Embry was leading me.

We ended up at a quaint little house at the edge of town, with an obvious woman's touch. Embry and I turned away from each other to phase back and get dressed, and as soon as we were both done, Embry took my hand in his and we walked up to the house. Embry didn't even bother knocking, and I let him lead me down the hall and through the kitchen into the lounge room, where 4 huge boys were perched in different positions. I recognised Jacob, obviously, and Sam, who was talking to a slight woman about my height. The other two boys I didn't recognise. Sam and Jacob both looked around when Embry and I entered the room. Sam got up from where he was sitting, next to the woman who I presumed was Emily, and I saw Jacob's eyes narrow on Embry's and my intertwined hands.

"You guys made it." Sam said casually, and began introducing me to everyone. "So, Bells. This is Emily Young." Sam gestured to the small woman tucked under his arm. She had the tanned skin that everyone on the Rez seemed to have, and was about my height. She was beautiful, to say the least, with big brown eyes and high cheek bones. When as she came closer to me, I saw the scars that marred her pretty face. I gasped quietly, and she hugged me gently.

"As Sam said, I'm Emily, his fiancée. It will be be so good to have another girl around here!" She exclaimed and then dropped her voice to a stage whisper, "Sometimes, all this testosterone can be too much to handle!" I laughed, and so did Embry, Sam and one of the boys that I didn't know.

"Hey, Bella! Nice to put a face to the name. I'm Jared Cameron" The laughing boy said as he came over and hugged me, more like squeezed the life out of me! He was almost as tall as Sam and Jacob, and had a friendly smile on his face. He gestured to the other boy "And that sourpuss over there is Paul Lahtote."

"Hey, Paul. Nice to meet you." I said cheerfully, but he just nodded. Jared was right, he is a bit of a sourpuss.

At that moment, I heard two cars pull up outside. I glanced at Embry, and he smiled at me. It's Show time.

Another chapter up. So what do you guys think so far? Reviews mean a lot guys I'm trying to figure out when to bring the Cullens back into this... I have one more chapter written up already, but I'm not sure whether or not I should bring the Cullens back the chapter after that, or in two or perhaps three more chapters... I also need a nice girls name, preferably something English... Any help would be great! Thanks again for the support guys!

See you next time,
