This is a genderbender!fic, at least in terms of Nico, Percy and Annabeth - Jason's male, but everyone else in gender-switched :)
"Why didn't you say anything?" Jason asked.
The dark haired woman by his side laughed. "As if I would," she murmured, "Why would she ever want me, of all people?"
Jason turned to throw a look at her. "Nico, you're the Daughter of Hades!" he exclaimed, "Why wouldn't someone want to date you?"
Nicoletta di Angelo laughed bitterly. "And Persephone's the Hero of Olympus," she reminded him, "She can have anyone she wants, male or female. And, you know, that's another issue with the thought of Percy wanting me – as far as I know, she's as heterosexual as I'm not."
"Nico…" Jason murmured.
"I'm over it, Jason," Nico said bluntly. "I realised that there was absolutely no chance for me when she turned up at Camp Jupiter, completely amnesiac save for the name Adam Chase. At that moment, I gave up completely," she concluded, her shoulders drooping as she remembered the event.
Jason looked at her for a moment, a sad look on his face, before he pulled her over and wrapped her in a tight hug. "I'm so sorry, Nico," he whispered into her hair.
The girl took a few moments to let herself be weak before breaking out of his embrace and resuming the walk back to the Argo II. "We need to get back soon," she said, wiping her eyes discretely, "And I'm too tired to be able to shadow travel at the moment."
She knew that Jason was looking at her worriedly, but she ignored him. This was something she had to work out, and there was nothing that he could do to help.
She had told him the truth. Even after Percy and Adam had started dating, she had still idiotically held out hope that maybe, just maybe, one day…and then Camp Jupiter had happened. After she had seen Percy there…well, that had been the day that she'd given up hope.
What she hadn't told Jason was how much it still hurt to look at the girl she was in love with, day after day, and know that she could never have her. Even being trapped in that bronze jar with only her dear step-mother's pomegranate – and wasn't that ironic, the fact that the girl she loved and the goddess she hated happened to share a name – had been less torture than seeing Percy, day after day after painful day.
And then Percy had jumped into Tartarus after Adam, and damn wasn't that just a stab in the heart? Not only had Percy been gone – and, at the time, odds were that they'd never see her again – she'd also sacrificed herself for the Son of Athena. Again.
Once upon a time, Nico had liked Adam. He was a good friend, after all. of course, that was before she'd realised that the boy would always come first for Percy.
It was stupid, and it wasn't even his fault, but she still hated him.
And now, here she was, in the middle of one of the most beautiful cities she had ever been in, and all she could think about was Persephone Jackson and how nice it would be if she were here with them.
Nicoletta di Angelo was crazily in love, and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it.
I hope you guys liked it! As always, please don't forget to drop a review on your way out - I'd love to hear you guys' thoughts! :3
