Cover Drawing and Story – Mine

Constant bickering was common in the Wang-Kirkland household and Xiang learned very early to put on his headphones and tune it out. The teenage boy bobbed his head along with the beat of his song, flipping the page of the book he was reading at the same time.

Having ignored whatever his parents were bickering about this time, Xiang was unaware that they were actually bickering about him, or more pacifically his choice in hair style.

"Aiyah! How could you let him do this ahen!?" Yao frustratingly groaned.

"Oi! If I'm not mistaken, you were the one who told him to cut his hair!" Arthur defended himself, arguing back.

"I told you to go with him! I bet you influenced him with your western style!"

"He's 16 and old enough to go to the barbershop without his mum and dad, Yao!"

"You are clearly wrong about that, Arthur! Just look at him!" Yao and Arthur turned to their son, seeing him still reading and listening to his music, clearly oblivious. "Aiyah, it's all uneven and platinum-blond and, ugh!" Yao groaned again, cringing into his hand. "It's all punky ahen!"

"I'm not happy with this either, okay?" Arthur started, turning back to Yao with his arms crossed. "But he's old enough to make his own decisions. And I've seen many Asian boys now a days with their hair dyed lighter."

"Bite your tongue!" Yao spat back. "How dare you defend this, this, this mess ahen!" he continued fuming, exaggerating his arm movement when motioning towards Xiang.

"I'm not, Yao!" Arthur yelled, grabbing a hold on Yao's flaring arms and holding it down by his side. "Calm down! I'm just saying there's no use getting worked up over this. What's done is done and we can't undo it!"

"Oh my god," Xiang groaned, shutting his book with a loud clamp, standing from his seat. "You two are insane. I love you guys, but get a room," he said with utmost annoyance, heading towards his room, questioning why he didn't do so before.

"Xiang Leon Wang!" both his parents shouted towards his receding figure, appalled.

Arthur groaned once again. "He gets his sharp tongue from you, you know."

"Me!? You're the one who shouts curses every other sentence ahen!" Yao fought back. "And he spends all his money on books and video games; how does he even have enough to do that with his hair!?"

"He has a job, remember?"

Still clearly angry, Yao continued his rants and blaming in Chinese. Arthur sighed, able to understand a majority of what he was saying.

"It's just hair, love. It'll grow out."

"Fine," Yao huffed, crossing his arms.

"Good." Arthur sighed, relieved that Yao was calming down.

"But if he comes home with piercings and a tattoo, then we know clearly who's at fault ahen!" Yao finally shouted before leaving towards the kitchen.

"Oi!" Arthur called after him, a bit flushed, knowing exactly what Yao was talking about. "There is nothing wrong with piercings and tattoos! Blimey, you're so strict and uptight!"

"At least I wasn't some punk pirate ahen!"

"I was a bloody kid, damn it!"

As Yao and Arthur continued their argument, they weren't aware of the third person listening in.

Xiang closed the door to his room, walking towards the mirror in his room, engrossed with the new information. He looked closely at his reflection, more specifically his ears, eyebrows, and mouth.

"Piercings, huh?"

Based on Himapapa's new sketch/drawing of Hong Kong (I would check it out). I don't exactly know what the hair color is though. Not bagging on hair dyes or piercings or tattoos! I'm just speaking as a "super strict and uptight Chinese parent".
