Hayley sat outside on the porch. It had been a week since the incident with the witches in the bayou, and this was the first time she'd ventured back outside.
She'd spent that week trying to remember what had happened.
She remembered attacking the first group of witches, then Rebekah showing up to save her from the second. She remembered Rebekah telling her to run. She remembered turning and calling out to Rebekah, and then everything went black.
She remembered hearing the wolf howl when she woke up. Her first thought was that Klaus had turned and came to save her, not that she would have admitted that to anyone.
She remembered getting to her feet and dragging herself back to the doctor's cabin. Klaus and Rebekah were there.
She remembered Klaus questioning her about her attackers and how she survived. She mentioned the wolf. Klaus had looked suspicious.
When she stood up, she almost fainted, but Klaus caught her.
He lifted her in his arms as if she were weightless.
"I've got you, love. I've got you" he had told her softly.
She rested her head on his shoulder.
She remembered being surprised by how gentle he was. She remembered finally feeling safe.
