Hey all! Been two months since the last update. I deeply apologize, personal life needed some time to deal with. Anyways, you've all been a great audience and I welcome you to the final chapter of Magic Commander. I plan on doing a sequel to cover the series, but there will be time in between to plan and write the chapters, so keep an eye out for the next one. Without further ado, let's end this!
It has been some time since the final battle with the Seraphim on Magix. A large amount of the damage caused from the battle had been repaired, thanks in no small part to the Coalition. Spring came and went with summer fast approaching, along with finals for the year, then a long break to go home and see family.
During the reconstruction, many often stopped what they were doing, listening to news broadcasts detailing the Coalition's final offensive on the Seraphim and their allies; Operation: Final Effort. The plan had gone well initially with the enemy being caught by surprise and taking heavy losses before mounting a counter offensive. Several allied commanders were lost, but it wasn't significant enough to stop them.
Day by day, Coalition troops pushed deeper into the stronghold, using everything they had, including strategic missiles. Projections made by analysts predicted the war to end just after the final term. Unfortunately for Bloom, she wouldn't be able to join them. Her ACU was damaged beyond all repair, and so she had to wait for another to be built.
Many had often asked why there weren't as many ACUs in the military if the Coalition had the forging technology they did. The answer was cost. It took a high number of resources, energy, and time to create a single unit, not including the time to upload the schematics for other units, structures, and command protocols. All in all, a time consuming process.
It wasn't all bad for the red head. She no longer had to fight in constant battles, no longer had to file reports; she was free for the rest of the term to continue her classes, and catch up in some, as she was doing now.
"Try again Bloom, this time don't try to control it. Let the energy flow through you."
"Ok," answered the frustrated girl. She had been studying with Professor Wizgiz for the past hour, attempting to grasp a full body transformation. She could easily grasp changing a small part, her hair or eyes, but everything together was proving difficult.
Taking a calming breath, she began to draw on her magic. She could feel the energy welling up inside her, growing stronger with each passing second. When she had enough, she released it. Smoke clouded around her body, a bright flash of light, and the smoke cleared to show… her hair standing up again. She looked up at the new style and groaned, "I hate this spell."
Wizgiz's cheerful smile slightly diminished, "You won't get it immediately, Bloom. These things take time and practice. Just keep at it and you'll have down to where you do it without thinking." She gave him a disbelieving look, and craned her head back to look at the ceiling. "We should probably take a break," he suggested. "Maybe taking your mind off it will help."
Bloom nodded and sat up again, trying to smooth out her gravity defying hair, "Yeah, maybe." She gave up on trying to bring down her hair again and opted to just sit in silent thought. Her other classes were done with, at least in catching up, but the only thing stopping her now was a spell. The same spell she'd been working on for three days. Changing hair, eye, or skin color; easy. Changing height; doable. Changing everything at once; failure. I just don't get it. What am I doing wrong?! Am I using too much energy? Not enough concentration? What?!
It was at that moment that Wizgiz interrupted her internal questioning, "Bloom, I was wondering, what you plan to do after the break?" Seeing her confused look, he continued, "Do you plan to still attend Alfea is what I meant to say."
"I will still attend. I like it here, and I can still keep my posting as a Major in the Realms at the same time. Rhiza or Dostya will be at Domino in shifts as well as a full company of ACUs, several platoons of Marines, and maybe a few spec ops. They'll call me if I'm needed and I have my communicator on me at all times," she answered.
Wizgiz, intrigued by her answer, asked, "Why still come? Your mission is over, the Seraphim are on their last legs, and you have a career ahead of you…" he trailed off after that, not thinking of anything else to say.
She didn't answer immediately, choosing to sit in silence, until she took a breath, "It just wouldn't be fun without you all. The girls, the teachers, the life here in general. I want to stay because I like it here… That and command needed someone to be the Realms' liaison officer to the Coalition. Dostya or Rhiza would be busy with running Domino base and baby sitting the scientists that go there. It was an obvious choice."
"You stay because of duty and preference," summed up the green clad man. "What about your family?"
"They'll worry, but I call them every day and I can take the gate and be home in a few hours," she said with a smile. "Besides, they know I can take care of myself and that I'll be safe here. Now then, let's get back to that spell. Exams are still coming and I plan to pass them."
Wizgiz gave a small smile at his student, "Right then."
That's it. Done. Fertig. The End. I hope you all enjoyed it and will watch out for the next one. Bye!
