A/N; I mayyyyyy want to continue this but I just wanted to drabble some Zuncan (or Doey as they're calling it on Tumblr) stuff. Dedicated to Banette who is my Zuncan/Doey RP partner.

Safety and Innocence

Duncan couldn't believe the first time he'd actually considered it. She was Mal-Mike's girlfriend and plus he had all his post-Gwen issues to deal with. He still had no idea why she'd actually dumped him when he thought they were going okay. And plus things actually made sense with Gwen, like he was supposed to be with her because they had so much in common. But the second he looked into Zoey's innocent eyes and had the urge to kiss those ruby red lips of hers, he shook it out of his mind as quickly as possible. He'd kissed enough girls on Total Drama and giving in to doing it again just wouldn't end well.

Zoey wanted a sweetheart, that's all she ever wanted. She was sick of jerk guys and when she met Mike she thought she had it made, he was the sweetest guy she'd ever laid eyes on... and then she found out that he had all these 'extras' which made everything significantly less sweet. When she met Duncan she wasn't sure what she was expecting at first, but she found out quickly that he was the second sweetest guy she'd ever met (even if he'd contend that point to his deathbed). But as things she didn't know previously about Mike surfaced she was starting to change her assessment of the two sweetest guys she knew and they inevitably switched places on her list, even though she never told Duncan about it.

Duncan finally dealt with his stuff, "issues" or whatever people liked to call it and Zoey was there with him. He got emotional because he realized he was just doing what people expected of him, even down to dating Gwen. Not that he didn't like, even love Gwen but he did it more because he felt that was what he was than anything. He had a lot of embarrassing stuff come up but he realized he didn't need to be embarrassed around Zoey. He didn't have to put up some front in front of her since she thought he was some sort of do-gooding sweetie without a bad bone in his body anyway. She wasn't going to be fooled by his attempts to act tough and his attempts to have it all together. He hated that about her really, he was much more comfortable when he could just hide behind the facade.

Zoey discovered that Duncan was everything she'd ever wanted when she heard him come clean about all those "bad habits" that everyone talked about him having. She had known he was misunderstood from the start and if there was anything Zoey wanted it was to understand misunderstood people. She really got Duncan in a way that she felt no one else could, but she had once felt that way about Mike as well. Was she too much of a bleeding heart in wanting to take on all of people's problems for herself? She was worried about that. But Duncan wasn't Mike. She had to repeat that to herself often. Duncan wasn't Mike. She was safe with him.
