Prompt: Midnight
Andrea's chest is full, her heart beating at a steady pace as Sharon snuggles closer in her sleep. A lopsided grin has found an almost permanent place on Andrea's lips. She enjoys these moments late in night, the first few minutes after Sharon's fallen asleep after they've spent their time talking quietly in bed as they welcomed sleep. Sharon's words usually slowly fade, mumbled into Andrea's breasts or neck. Shortly after her breaths become a constant warmth against the blonde's skin, the first sign that Sharon's asleep. When Sharon's body finds a way to somehow move in closer, fall deeper into Andrea, she knows for sure that her partner has drifted off.
Sharon's head is a weight atop Andrea that she welcomes. Her fingers gently stroke at Sharon's temple, the nape of her neck, her scalp, whichever spot their chosen positioning for the night allows. It soothes Sharon, and Andrea discovered it also helps clear her own mind when sleep does not come easily.
Andrea leans her head down and kisses the crown of Sharon's head, the scent of the sleeping woman's hair flirting with her nose. She inhales deeply, wanting to fully breathe in the scent. It's faint, the floral fragrance that is the brunette's shampoo, not as strong as it was earlier in the morning when they had embraced after Sharon had dressed for work and Andrea had pulled her partner into her arms. But it still sends a flood of warmth through her. She still finds herself falling into and following that wondrous wave of peacefulness that she can only find when she is surrounded by nothing but Sharon.
She smiles into Sharon's hair and lets her eyes fall shut. No matter how rough the day, how exhausted she feels by the time she finds herself in bed at night, having Sharon in her arms like this never fails to make her feel like everything is all right for that moment. She is thankful for that, happy that she has found something, someone, that can make even the darkest of of days a little brighter.
Andrea's arm wraps around Sharon tighter, and a moment later Sharon hums in her sleep, soft and content. She responds with her own hum, shifting in the bed so the she is more comfortable. It's just past midnight, but she is not yet ready to fall asleep. This week has been a long one, a tough one, and she hasn't had nearly enough time with Sharon. Before she falls asleep, she desires only one thing.
With her eyes still closed and her fingers absentmindedly rolling in a gentle circular motion underneath Sharon's silken sleep shirt, Andrea listens to the soft sounds Sharon makes in her sleep. She feels the breaths that fall upon her own skin, slows her breaths so they sync up with her partner's. Instead of falling asleep right away, she takes a little time to enjoy the feeling of Sharon in her arms, sleeping peacefully, and she thinks to herself how lucky she is to have the opportunity to be so incredibly in love with someone as special as Sharon.
Only after she has spent long minutes simply listening to the sound of Sharon sleeping does she let her brain and body fully shut down. She falls asleep with a quick whisper of loving words mumbled into Sharon's hair and a bubble of happiness around them.
