Chapter 4: Fights over the Graves
I woke again to feel disturbed. I jumped out of bed and grabbed my bow and arrows, dismissing that I was still in my PJs. I ran out and into the woods of the shrine toward the old cemetery and my second family was buried. Sango and Miroku were buried there with their children until the later generations moved, even Inuyasha and Rin is there. I could even see the first Higurashi-s among the gravestones.
I came upon to see a boy my age fighting a demon near their graves. Rage boiled through my veins. I knocked an arrow and eliminated the demon on the spot. I stomped towards the boy that dared to fight near my friends' gravesite. When he noticed me, he looked to either thank me in a very Inuyasha style or yell at me for being here. I slapped him in the face, and then my hands balled into fists, beating on him while he blocked my blows until he started to fight back. I didn't notice the tears running down my face until he froze and I socked him in the jaw. He flew into a tree away from the graves.
I huffed and puffed and then I moved to see if he did anything to disturb my friends' graves. My rage simmered when only the flowers I put there were miss placed. I picked them up and rearranged them. I thought of expanding the shrine's barrier to cover this area. I always thought because it has a powerful presence it would keep the demons away from the place, not I'm not so sure.
I could feel the boy coming back. I threw an over the shoulder glare at him.
"Geeze! What the hell is your problem girl! I was just – oh, uh sorry."
I sighed and got up to leave. I glanced at the sky to see the sun was just peeking do to the small rays of light the sky was giving. I looked to the boy. He had some scratches. From what I remembered of the demon, a snake demon, it had venom – slow acting from the looks of it. I walked over to the guy and grabbed his wrist and dragged him to the shrine. I didn't have school today, but I have to meet Minamino-san later today at the library around 10:30 am. That was in 5-ish hours.
He boy was silent, which I was glad for. We enter in my house and I let go of him in front of my couch before I went to the bathroom to get the first aid kit and towels. I went to the kitchen to grab a bowl and filled it with hot water along with some medical tea I ground up. I came back to see him fiddling at Sota's video games and consul. I cleared my throat and he jerk away from the TV. I stared at him blankly, and he sulked over to the couch. I sat next to him and placed the items on the coffee table. I gave him the tea, which he hesitantly drank.
"I need to see your wounds to tend to them."
He looked at me oddly.
"Well, that's nice but they are just scratches so don't worry about them. What I want to know how you know about demons and how you killed it off."
"I would ask you the same thing, but as we speak slow acting venom is coursing through your veins from your wounds. Right now that venom is doing damage to your body without you knowing it!"
He looked at me startle and started to yank his shirt off. I looked to his wounds. I started on treating his wounds. By the slight touches I got from placing band-aids and bandages on him to keep the herbs from moving, he started to get a fever, but it wouldn't be as bad if I didn't give him the tea and herbs. He would start to feel the symptoms of the venom soon. I was able to make mild as I could. I then lead him to the room that grandpa used to have, for this boy to rest. It was pastel colors and traditional than most of the home.
He stopped before he entered the room completely.
"Hey, uh the names Yusuke Urameshi. Thanks for the help."
I was kinda surprised that he even introduced himself. I smile. He wasn't as bad as I thought.
"My name is Kagome Higurashi. Now you need rest, I made the symptoms of the venom as mild as I could, but you'll still feel a few of them. Rest well."
I left him to sleep on the futon. I went to my room and made sure to lock the door before heading to shower and dress. I ate what the North Americans call a strawberry Toaster Strudel. I looked to the clock. I had 3 more hours before I meet Minamino-san at the library. I took a piece of paper and scribbled a note and taped it to the hall wall in front of his door. I also put up sutras to make sure that he doesn't break anything on the way out.
I left to the library to research possible topics to do our project on.
