Guess who? Me! So, explanation time. I kind of… lost track with this story. I didn't know where it was going. But… I think I figured it out. Some of you have been begging for chapters and it breaks my heart. But I let my life outside this site control me, and I could never figure out where to go. I set deadlines and nothing happened. But I am the kind of writer who can sit at a laptop for two days and come up the chapter. I am not letting you guys down. Again. I'm sorry for everything. If you've been reading my other stories thank you. But I am back. I AM BACK. SING IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS! IFWRITERSCOULDSPEAK IS BACK! WHAT YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT! I'LL TELL YOU WHAT YOU'RE GONNA DO! (*loses voices and starts coughing*) Um… (*weakly*) you're going to read my stories, while I get some hypothetical hot water.
Enjoy!
P.S. As a sign of truce. There is a Fabian POV. As another sign of truce. I brought back a character that many cease to care about or remember.
Nina POV
Watching Fabian's face over the next few days was… surreal. He began smiling, laughing, talking… it was beautiful. Amber spoke to him after dinner one day, and they came back making jokes, like the old friends they were. I was so, happy, relieved… I don't know. Somewhere in between.
But I couldn't help but think that one day… things would be different. In a bad way. I was scared something would happen, and I was nervous. I was biting my nails just thinking about it.
"Hey, Nina!" Fabian shouted at me, as I walked over to school.
"Fabian?" I said, facing him. "Didn't you go with Mara?"
"I was going to, but I had to talk to you about our chemistry project. Since everyone else is doing it at the house, I was wondering if you wanted to meet me after school in the lounge, to work on it."
"Um, yeah, sure," I agreed, before stopping. "Will Mara… be ok with this?"
"Mara?" he asked, tilting his head. "Um, sure I think. Things have been great between us since the whole thing in the woods. We had a long talk and it is finally all out of the way. She knows that we are friends."
"She does?" The glares across the bedroom didn't seem to verify his statements.
"Yeah. Has she been giving you a tough time? I could talk to her for you-"
"No, no, it's fine," I stopped him. "It'll work out its own."
"Um, ok, then," he smiled. "Do you want to discuss the parameters of the projects?"
"Sure," I agreed. So we walked together, leaving behind Anubis house, talking about acids and bases, discussing how we would spend our future time together.
X.
"Nina!" Amber shouted, pulling me from Fabian. "Sorry, Fabian! We'll see you in first class!" She dragged us through crowded hallways, until we wound up in an empty one.
"What was that about?" I asked.
"Nina, if I tell you something, you have to promise not to tell anyone."
"I promise."
"Nina, I'm serious. If this gets out… a lot of people are going to get hurt."
"Amber, what is it?"
She took in a deep breath. "Patricia, started this rumor about Mara and Jerome a few years back. It wasn't real, nothing was going on between them. I confirmed it, which is why everyone backed off. The thing is… what if I had backed off too soon?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean… what if something was going on between Mara and Jerome?"
Fabian POV
"Fabian!" Jerome called as I walked in. I immediately turned around to walk away, when he clamped a hand on my shoulder. "Just the man I wanted to see."
I gulped, and took a deep breath. My hands shaking, my voice wobbled out,
"A-About what?"
"Chill, dude, it's nothing. I wanted your history homework, I didn't do mine."
I pulled open my backpack and shoved the papers at him, speeding to my seat.
"Fabian, are you ok?" Jerome asked.
"I'm fine," I mumbled, retracing some old doodles in my notebook.
"You seem… paranoid. Scared even," he mentioned sitting on my desk.
"Jerome, I would very much appreciate it, if you got off my desk." I pulled out a pair of scissors and began working on the assignment on the board. He backed off after
seeing my expression, and walked away.
"Mara must have done something to get you mad, huh?" Jerome said, ruffling my
hair.
"Back off, Jerome!" I snapped, and Jerome raised his hands in the hair. The
limited people in the room turned towards us, and I realized I was out of my chair, pointing the scissors threateningly at Jerome. I dropped them on the floor, and kicked them away. I grabbed my books and jacket and sprinted towards the door, and ran out into the hallway, before crashing into someone.
"I'm so sorry, young man, let me help you- Fabian!" Ms. Robinson called, picking up my papers. "How lovely to see you. Oh, I'm so sorry, you will be late because of me! Here," she handed my things back to me. I averted her eyes so that she wouldn't see any of my tears. "Fabian, are you alright? You seem preoccupied."
"Fabian?" a voice said down the hallway.
"Nina, dear, hello!" Ms. Robinson exclaimed.
"Hello, Ms. Robinson. Fabian, why are you here? I thought we both had Mr. WInkler for Art today." Nina asked.
"Um, yeah, we do, I just forgot some things," I lied.
"You have so much in that bag of yours, I'm surprised you didn't stuff your whole locker in there." Ms. Robinson laughed, and Nina gave a half-smile.
"Fabian, are you ok?" Nina asked me.
I looked down, avoiding her eyes, knowing I would tell her everything. I would spill my guts out to her, and I don't know if she could take it.
"Oh my gosh, Fabian, you're bleeding," Nina cried, taking out her jacket. She pressed lightly at the scrape on my elbow, and I stood there awkwardly, as Ms. Robinson looked on.
The bell rings, and Ms. Robinson took this as her opportunity. "Nina, why don't you go to class and I will take Fabian to the nurse?"
Nina began refusing, when I gently touched her shoulder. "I'll be fine. I just… need some time."
She nodded, before leaving to Mr. Winkler's room, while I walked with Ms. Robinson across the building to the nurse's office.
Nina POV
I left Fabian with Ms. Robinson while I entered class and sat next to Amber. As Mr. Winkler began talking about the importance of art today in society, my mind kept wandering to what Amber had said. Mara and Jerome? That's like Barney with a Teletubby. They are complete opposites, but the same species. Two different plot lines, two different colors, two different networks… it makes no sense. Amber said that maybe they were together before. But who cares about before? We need to know now, if something is happening! What would happen to Joy and Fabian? They would be heartbroken! How would Joy not know? Her and Mara and joined to the hip, this doesn't make any sense!
And what did Amber do to elaborate? Nothing! Right after she told me, she saw my face, and thought I would tell, so she ran to class. But I am getting the truth out of her one way or another.
"Alright, class, please work on the assignments with a partner of your choice. But just because I am a substitute, does not mean you can hand in mediacore work!" Mr. Winkler announced ten minutes later.
Amber fled to the other side where Alfie was, while I threw my hands up in defeat at her escape.
"Want to partner?"
I turned my head to see Joy, with a box of art supplies. "Sure."
"Awesome."
We laid down on our backs on the floor, while creating a symbolic sunset. "So Joy?"
"Um-hm."
"I've heard this rumor that I wanted to run past you."
"Shoot."
"Um, well, and this will sound silly, trust me. Um... I heard that Mara and Jerome used to go out."
She suddenly put down her pencil and turned to me. "Who told you that?" I was silent, as I continued to color. "Whoever did is wrong. Mara and Jerome never went out. One of them would have told me."
"That's why I wanted to run it past you. You of all people would know. I mean you and Mara must have been best friends since you were little."
"No." I looked up at her, while she continued drawing. "Actually, we used to hate each other."
"Wait, what?" I questioned.
"Yeah. I'm talking full out trash talking, fighting, verbal showdowns, kind of thing. We were enemies since we were six."
"What happened?"
"It started over a toy on the playground… it escalated from there."
"But how are you guys friends now?"
"I don't know. I just remember one day, she came up to be and said she wanted to change and start over, but she had said this so many times, that I couldn't believe her. But her eyes said something. She was hurt. She was hurt by what she did, and she wanted to start fresh."
"Huh." I commented, "I don't know if I could move past the hate though."
"Some of the best friendships come from the worst things, Nina," Joy said. "It just means that they are worth fighting for."
Fabian POV
"The stinging should go away soon, Fabian," Ms. Robinson informed me, walking up to my bed in the infirmary. "The nurse said the disinfectant did its job well, and fortunately you only missed one class. I'm sure Mr. Winkler will get you caught up soon." I nodded, and Ms. Robinson sat down in the chair beside me. "Fabian, I hope you know, that although you don't have me as a teacher this semester, I am someone you can confide in. I will not tell anyone anything you say; it stays between us. You seem to be distracted lately, it's almost as though a part of you is missing. You've become dull, and you are not a dull student. You always are out and about to help all of your friends. It seems they are no longer important to you either."
I sighed, knowing she was right, and I couldn't lie any longer, and I couldn't hide my emotions anymore.
"Is it school-related?" she asked. I quickly shook my head no. "So it's personal." My silence was taken as a response, and it was enough. "Fabian, I am going to assume this is about your love life, and as I teacher I will not intrude on it if you do not want me to. Lord knows I should not be giving anyone advice on the topic. But Fabian, everyone sees it."
I shot my head up. "They do?"
"Yes," Ms. Robinson said. "It's clear. You need to step up, and say what's on your mind. Speak up for yourself."
"But what will people think?" I asked, tears cascading down my cheeks. "What if they treat me differently? They will think I am weak."
"They won't. It's nothing to be ashamed of. These things happen, and you cannot do anything about them."
"I can't?"
"You can't. You need to tell her, because it is obvious by the way you look at her."
"It is? I've hardly spoken to her, though. It's become weird, and awkward. All I feel is tension."
"Fabian, that moment in the hallway, there was no tension, there was just-"
"Wait. What are you talking about?" I asked her.
"Nina. They way you two-"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, Nina? Is that who you were referring to?"
"Yes, who did you think I was?"
"I thought-" Fabian paused, and stared at the floor. "No one. I was thinking of no one. There's nothing going on between Nina and I, so…" he cleared his throat as the silence ensured.
"Why do you like her Fabian?"
"What?"
"Why do you like Nina?" Ms. Robinson said. "Saying it will help you sort out your feelings."
"I don't need to sort out my feelings, because they are sorted out. I'm with Mara, and I like Mara. End of story, Ms. Robinson." He cleared his throat again before speaking, "Did the nurse say I could go?"
"Yes, you can," Ms. Robinson said.
I picked up my bag and I walked to the door, before turning around. "What was there?"
"Excuse me?"
"What was there in the hallway? I said, I felt tension, you said there was something else. What was it?"
"It was nothing," Ms. Robinson answered. "Nothing. You seemed normal. You should get to class."
I left the room, but had I stood there, outside the door a minute longer, I would have heard the words Ms. Robinson said that would have changed my life sooner.
"I was going to say there was love."
Ms. Robinson! Remember her? I SO wanted to just see her and Winkler, and she just like stomps on his foot or like sprays perfume in his face or something. That would have been HILL-ARRRR-IOUS!
Anyways hoped you enjoyed! I have a competition coming up soon, so I can't update for a bit, but I will probably be writing, and I will update it after. So my new deadline is… March 6, 2014. But hey, you never know with me. I could be EARLY, I could be updating other stories. I could be PMing the riddles to fans. In case you don't know, the first reviewer, gets a riddle in their PM box, that gives a clue to a chapter in the future of this story or my other stories. They rhyme, and are kind of like poetry. PM me back once you get it so that you know that you got it. Once after, you can share your guesses with me and the riddle with anyone you want.
Also, my apologies to Violinrocker12 and Fabina4eves because I did not give you a shoutout on the latest chapter of The Cliff Of Love for guessing the allusions in chapter 3! I'm so sorry, and shout out to you guys, because you are huge fans of me and are awesome!
Reviews are love guys, but they are not life. But the first few days after I post, they are my life. Thank you for being there for me, and I am serious. You guys are the best. You come from all walks of life, but together we form something special. We are our Sibuna, and we didn't know it. So share everyday with the people you want to be with, because someday, just like House of Anubis, they might not come back. You can live with them in your hearts, but you want them beside you too.
On that happy note…
See ya in March!
