From a young age, he understood that they weren't an ordinary family.
Prestige and wealth-he couldn't deny how lucky he was to have these. Nor could his classmates, especially with the way they fawned over his name. "Man, the Nase family's got everything." A bitter smile danced on his lips. There's something off with this family.
"Do you understand?" Hiroomi halted at Izumi's strict instruction. From the corner, he snuck a peek. Izumi's lips were taut, eyes stern as she looked down at Mitsuki.
"As a Spirit World Warrior, we walk alone." Just as the words surely stung her, it struck him as well. A careless gasp escaped from his mouth as he noticed a flash of shock in his dear sister's eyes.
"Understood!" she declared, casting away any sign of unease. The corner of his mouth curved downward as he stood fiddling with the fringes of his scarf. It was unfair really. Someone as young as Mitsuki shouldn't have to know this yet. After all, the children of the Nase family and future generations would have a lifetime to understand this loneliness.
And yet, Mitsuki had already understood. Just when had that happened? Her answer was firm and unwavering. He had to admit, his sister had guts. However, barriers eventually shatter, as even they can't withstand time.
Stepping into the light, he greeted his sister who had her eyes fixed on the window. "Mi-tsu-ki," he sang. At the sound of his voice, Mitsuki furrowed her eyebrows. "What is it, aniki?"
With a pout, Hiroomi protested, "Oh come on, call me onii-chan, won't you?"
"No way." She huffed and turned her attention back to the window, gazing at the lands that the their family owned. Lands that she couldn't freely enjoy. Hiroomi took in his sister's cute expression and laid his hand on her head. Immediately she grumbled but that just elicited a chuckle from the older brother.
He would be the one to dote on her. He would be the one to remind her how cute she is, how lovely she is, how wonderful she is.
Placing his hand on her head, he ruffled her pigtails, which only seemed to further irritate her.
"Aniki!" She attempted to swat his hand away but he had already pulled back. With his other hand, he offered a lollipop and a grin.
"You get cuter and cuter every day, Mitsuki." She snatched the treat from him and tossed it at his face, quickly turning on her heels so that she wouldn't have to deal with him.
Much better. He wanted his admirable sibling to have eyes that would glow with warmth, to just glow. Unbarred, unlike the scarf around his neck, unlike the ice cage around Izumi.
