Hey guys. Wow..it's been over a year since I've updated this. Sorry about that. Thank you for giving me 980 views and 15 favorites since then! Without your inspiration I would have never made myself continue this. Special shoutouts to Tears of a Spirit and maesde for giving me such kind reviews. Anyway, I thought that I'd do something in the canon universe this time. Here you go!
~Pencil Samurai
Rain poured outside her bedroom window, lightning cutting briskly through the air. She pulled her knees to her chest and bowed her head.
It had been weeks since she had last seen Eren, and the pain increased with each passing day. She needed to see his vibrant green eyes, she needed to hear his voice. Anything.
"Ackerman, we're heading out" Lance Corporal Levi yelled from the floor below. Mikasa reluctantly pulled herself out of bed and walked towards the door, already donning her harness.
The dirt road had long since turned to slush, making the groups travels all the less comfortable. The wagon creaked and swayed side to side, making the team wonder if it would fall apart at any given moment.
The whole team's spirits had been low for awhile. All their gazes were cast at the floor, deep shadows underlined their eyes. Even Sasha was feeling under the weather.
The Corporal and Hange kept their gazes on the road ahead, not saying a word to the teens. Perhaps it was because they didn't want to give the kids false hope. After all, they had seen many of their comrades die before their eyes. Hope was a luxury none of them could afford.
The wagon suddenly came to a stop before a church. The building was falling apart, and the whole area looked like it hadn't been walked on in ages, that is, save for some fresh sets of footprints leading to the church.
Levi jumped off the wagon, hands already on his blades. Hange wasn't far behind him. He mentioned for the rest of the group to follow.
Mikasa was the first out, eyes locked on the building dangerously. If there was any chance that Eren, the boy she loved, was in there, she would risk her life to get him out. She needed him now.
The group approached the building silently, not wanting to attract attention. Voices could be heard through the walls, though Mikasa couldn't make out what they were saying. However, Levi's eyes sharpened and he disappeared inside the building, yells and shrieks following him. Hange was the next and Mikasa the third.
And the building was soon overcome with the sickening smell of blood.
The rain had ceased, and the team retreated, Eren in their grasps. The boy was unconscious, but very much alive. Armin and Mikasa were at his sides, each holding one of his hands.
Without her knowing, tears began to form in Mikasa's eyes. This had been the fourth time she had almost lost Eren. And though she knew she would have to bear this pain again in the future, she felt as if she couldn't handle it.
Armin appeared to sense the troubles in her mind and put a warm hand on her shoulder, smiling. Mikasa wiped her eyes, returning his smile, thankful that she still had a family, even after her own parent were dead.
"GET BACK TO THE BARN, HORSEFACE!"
"OH YEAH?! YOU LITTLE-"
Mikasa sighed. Though she definitely hadn't missed the fighting between Jean and Eren, it reassured her. It felt as though nothing had changed.
"Mikasa, what are you doing here?"
Mikasa looked up at the sound of Eren's voice to see him standing in the doorway of the common area. She, of course, had been alone there, thinking.
"Oh, nothing. Just thinking"
Eren sat in the chair beside hers, his eyes focused straight ahead. "It must've been hard, the mission I mean. If only I never got captured-"
Mikasa quickly put one of her hands on Eren's, squeezing it gently. "It wasn't your fault." Eren looked at the floor almost guiltily, but grasped Mikasa's hand firmly.
"Let's hope it never happens again." Mikasa made a sound of approval before leaning on Eren's shoulder, feeling his warmth. And for a moment, there was no war, no titans, only them. Mikasa closed her eyes, savoring the feeling of Eren beside her, hoping that he would never leave her side.
...well..this took about half an hour to type up. I wish I would've added some type of kiss scene...but you know… I just don't see where it would've fit. Thanks for reading!
