Chapter 21

It was a funny thing really, to scourge around the library looking for clues to one's own identity-hell to even ask help from Ryou's older brother-who is shockingly in Egypt doing Ra knows what as the other was infamous for the squabbles he usually gets with the locals wherever country he is. When one had contented himself in not knowing beyond what was told.

But the older was infamous in his closest family members(their parents doesn't count as they were more like barriers to his own selfish and random bouts of reckless tendecies) as a prideful and determined man when asked to do something-that in his own childish and twisted glee would rain chaos down on everyone involved.

And that is how they find themselves at a dead end, despite his friend's older brother's determination to find what they needed-he came with nothing.

Nothing new from what the national birth registry had in their archives(courtesy of his bestfriend).

But there was an inkling feeling in him that he knew that there must be something-something that could shed some light on the matter.

So far, there was none that could tell him about his missing identity; the life that was supposedly his but was rudely taken away from him at the mere waved of a hand, that their lives were nothing but collateral damage.

And that only one person could possibly hold the key to his identity; but he knew for a fact that he would prefer that he doesn't poke his nose on matters that does not concern him in any way (though some of it does relate to him).

Yami let out a heavy and tired sigh as he closed the book he was looking over on his lap for hours since they've been here with an audible thump and turned to look at both of his friends; Ryou who have already begun to set down the thick book-the tenth about Egypt's monarchy-since they got here, with Malik doing the same thing-this time with some of the oldest newspapers he could find about the royal family.

"This is hopeless!" Malik cried out in frustration as he ran his hands through his hair. "And irritating at least. But it is pointless."

With that said, Ryou raised an eyebrow at his friend's sudden shout of indignation. "Why do you say that?" he asked.

"What do you think?!" Malik demanded as he gestured with his arms at the piles of books they have gone through-along with a bunch of old and faded newspapers-for hours in the library. "If we want to know something about Yami's past that we could not find in this library and hell, even the national archives, then I'm thinking of one place and one place alone."

Reading the look on the blond's face correctly, Ryou's face paled.

"You've got to be kidding!" the British prince exclaimed. "We would should have been extremely crazy enough to attempt to do that!"

Malik turned to the white haired teen. "Hey, it's pretty much obvious that he's the only person who knows what happened! So, it would be probable if we-"

"No." Yami interrupted as he stood up. Placing the book calmly on top of the pile. "I don't want to take a risk like that."

"Aw, come on!" the Saudi prince whined. "Don't you want to learn who you really are?"

Great, Malik. What the perfect time for you to remind that he have no idea of who he is-and to even remind him of that fact-it's not like he didn't have enough of those when he was growing up, having known in their neighborhood of his status that much.

"I do," the tri-colored haired teen sighed, "It's just that we're doing this the wrong way."

"So, what do you want to do?"

"It's not like Lord Akhenaden would choked up the truth," Yami explained. "And I doubt that even he would let his diary-journal or whatever he uses to write his secrets lying around in his office. And last time I check, we could only go to our teachers if they called us about our performances, not us coming to them for no reason at all."

Ryou nodded, silently agreeing to what the other said, while his eyes were trained on Malik. Waiting for what the other would do seeing as he had lost.

"Alright, fine." Marik sighed as he raised his hands up in surrender. "You guys win." He then turned around to look at the books. "Then where are we supposed to look next since both of you are adamant about confrontation?"

Both prince and Lord royal-in-training looked at each other, then shrugged, not having any clue where to next. They're satisfied with anywhere but not there...

Lunch...

"Ugh!" Malik sighed tiredly as he flopped down onto their place in the cafeteria, "So tired. I think I would not be able to look at a single newspaper or book without even trying to hurl it at the wall."

"Me either," Ryou sighed as he set his tray down opposite Malik's. Then strained a tired smile at Yami as the other set his tray beside his and they all sat down, too tired to even properly apply proper eating etiquette at this point.

"So, what are we supposed to do at this point?" Malik sighed as he leaned back, looking at the other two expectantly. "We don't have anymore classes seeing as it is near the coronation."

"Don't look at me," Ryou spoke as he held up his hands. "And I doubt that we could leave the school grounds."

"I do think we can," Yami answered, looking at the two. "That is if we swear that we would be back by nightfall before the curfew sets in."

"How'd you know about that?" Malik asked as he looked at the other, an eyebrow raised.

The red eyed teen shrugged. "I read it in one of the school guides," he smirked as he looked at the two-especially at the blond, knowing the other's thirst for rule breaking if given the chance-and having heard his numerous stunts back in his country. "And I do believe we could-just as long as we submit the proper documents."

"But that would take too long..." the blond whined. "I wanted to go now! And explore!"

The chocolate eyed teen rolled his eyes. "You've explored enough, Malik. Wasn't it you who have decided to go around Cairo first chance the plane landed?"

"Was too!"

"Was not!"

"Was too!"

"Was not!"

"And I'm the security guard," Yami butted in, having heard the same argument-just different people and different topic. He then smirked, "That got both of your attention. I was afraid it would have waited till afternoon before you're done."

"Yami!"

The teen chuckled, "Anyway, shall we go?" he asked the two royals. "Or you're still itching to continue?"

Ryou looked at Malik then let out a sigh, having it over and done for the day. "Let's go. And the sooner we filed for approval the sooner we can leave."

"Heck yeah!" Malik fist pumped the air as he followed the two out after depositing their trays and leaving the cafeteria. "Wonder where we could go...?" his voice drowned out in the hall, as the doors closed behind them.

The trio were walking into the hall, discussing about the several places that they could visit that is near the school, oblivious to the footsteps running after them, or even the small shouts of their names, too eager to get themselves out of the grounds.

"I heard that there's a Pizza Hut here," Malik told Yami as they walked down the hall. "And it looks like how a typical pizza place should be: with checkered tablecloths and breadsticks..."

Ryou snickered. "Don't tell me you've never seen a pizza before."

"I had!" the blond glared at the other. "Though the places I've been to does not look like what I imagined it would be."

"I guess there is one," the local of the trio answered, appeasing the more eager of the two. "Though I'm not sure how far it is from here..." he drifted, having caught someone running after them at the corner of his eyes. And immediately turned to face the person. "Mana?!"

"What?" the two princes asked then also turned halfway, one of a bored expression, the other wearing a surprised look on his face. Having known that the Headmaster's assistant rarely leaves the man's side unless if asked for an errand.

Mana hunched over, hands on her knees, as she gathered her breath. "Headmaster had just announced awhile ago..."

"When?" Ryou asked as he took a step towards the girl. Looking for any sign or clue about what was said.

"A few minutes after you three left," she huffed as she straightened up, then began to speak, trying to mimic the tone and way that the Headmaster told her earlier, "All students must gather in the school's ballroom, as a very special announcement will be made."

Shock and fear made itself known on the trio's faces. Having known what kind of man their Headmaster and how strict the man is when it comes to punctuality.

"How many minutes?" Malik asked, frantic.

Mana sighed then looked down at her watch. "If you leave right now...you have about 2 minutes to go there."

"Right," Yami nodded at her in thanks then quickly tugged the other's sleeves. "Come on, let's go."

"Thank you!" Ryou shouted at the girl as they sped down the hall towards the ballroom. All the while wondering what the headmaster's announcement would be.
