A/N; jfhsjdsdfjaskfj. The mid-season finale was wild! Not everything I hoped it would be, but the Governor is dead... and so is my sweet, sweet Hershel. I wonder who (if anyone) the Lilly and Tara characters will meet up with. The next episode is supposed to follow the comics so my guess is by the end of episode nine Carl and Rick would have found Michonne. But what caught my interest was them throwing Beth and Daryl together... so I had to write this. Though I am also happy for the big happy family of Rick, Carl and Michonne to be reunited soon.
Summary: The dry spell was over now. Beth could cry again. Daryl comforts Beth just after leaving the prison... and perhaps he's gained himself a new reason to stay alive in Hershel's daughter.

Tears and Sympathy

Daryl didn't want her own words to bite her in the ass. He knew what that felt like himself. Yeah sure, everyone died and it was good enough that you got to know the person... and there was no point being emotional. That's what Beth had been getting at last time? When her boyfriend bit the dust... wasn't it?
"I don't cry anymore" was what she had said.
She was crying now.
Hershel wasn't just anyone. Hershel was good people. And he didn't deserve to die... least of all like that.
And now her sister was gone, Glenn was gone, Rick... it was just the two of them.
All because the Governor was bats** crazy.
"Hey, Beth..." It's alright... but he just couldn't bring himself to say those words. What a load of bullcrap. It wasn't gonna be alright. But they were gonna survive the best they could and hopefully find Glenn and Maggie along the way.
Daryl wrapped his arms around her heaving body. The dry spell was over now. She could cry again. There was nothin' much to do but cry. "He didn't deserve that." No one did really. Daryl found that he had tears in his eyes too. He was barely processing what Rick had done to Carol when all this went down...and then it hit the fan in a way it hadn't done since the farm. So much for their security in the prison. So much for their security anywhere.
He was so tired of losing people... and now they'd possibly lost everyone. And Beth probably would have rathered be with her sister than him. It sucked and he couldn't do a damn thing about it. He stroked her hair without really thinking about it. "And we'll find Maggie," he murmured, "I promise." What the hell was his problem? Making promises he couldn't keep... again. He supposed he couldn't help it, he was a sucker for a crying girl and maybe, just maybe Hershel would've wanted him to make dumbass promises he had no hope in keeping.
She looked up at him, her voice shaky. "I'm glad I'm with you."
"Yeah," Daryl replied with a trace of emptiness, thinking of everyone. Rick, Hershel, Glenn... Carol. "Me too." Beth gave him something to protect, and she was something worth protecting. He needed that more than anything now. A reason for living - Beth could be his.
"Now let's go n' find some grub."
Time to focus on survivin' again. They'd have all the time in the world for more tears and one thing Daryl was certain of, was that there'd be more of them.

I could have made it sappier but what can you do?
Now who can possibly wait until Feb for more? It's torture!
