If the kiss worked, (unlikely, but she did love him, so it was possible,) he'd be the hero who saved the princess, and his plan to marry onto the throne was still in place and even more solid than before.

If it failed, then clearly the curse had gone too far for Anna to be saved; her grieving fiancé would have grounds to execute Queen Elsa for treason, and would then claim the throne by default.
