21. Present
Itachi had been gone on yet another S-class mission for over a month. He was due back in 3 days this time so Ino wasn't extremely worried as she would have been if he was due back 3 days ago, nevertheless, still worried.
He had told her the day he was briefed on the mission, both of them upset that he was going to miss her birthday, which was today of course.
She was glad to be with her friends, Shikamaru, Sakura, Choji, Naruto, and Sasuke and all, but she really wished that Itachi was there to celebrate with her, she was turning 19 after all.
Her day started with Sakura waking her up with a present, a bracelet she had managed to keep concealed from her the night prior, and obnoxiously singing 'Happy Birthday'.
After Sakura went home to help her mother with Ino's birthday dinner, Shikamaru and Choji took her cloud watching. Choji had gotten her 2 coupons to Ichiraku's Ramen bar and Shikamaru let her beat him at shogi.
Shikamaru told her it was too troublesome to be with her the rest of the day and Choji had yet another 'all-you-can-eat' date with his dad. She was alone for around 30 minutes, getting random happy birthdays from friends and costumers, until she and Naruto literally ran straight into each other.
After yelling at each other he apologized and told her he would treat her to Ichiraku's. They used the 50% off coupons Choji had given her and ate while having a rather lively conversation. Nothing was ever calm when the 2 were together. She left Naruto with Jiraya when he attempted to perv on her and made her way to Hokage Monument.
Sasuke was laying there looking half asleep and Ino sat next to him. They conversed about Itachi and how he hated sweets and how her day was. He gave her a necklace with the Uchiha's symbol on it telling her she would need one sooner or later because Itachi was obviously going to propose at anytime now. He walked her to Sakura's house and went home after hugging her goodbye, all Uchiha's were gentlemen.
She ate with Sakura and her family who had prepared her favorite meal and made pudding the way she liked it. She walked home by herself after that. She sulked with the thoughts of Itachi missing her birthday for the second time in 4 years.
She unlocked her door and opened it to see Itachi sitting on the couch waiting for her.
"Surprise, Happy Birthday Ino-san." He made an 'oof' noise when Ino nearly knocked him over.
"Best present today."
22. Candy
"You've never had sweets before?"
"No."
"Try this."
"No thank you."
"Please?"
"No."
"Why won't you try it Ita-san?"
"I don't want it."
"Just taste it, you'll never know if you like it or not."
"Fine."
"So?"
"That's disgusting."
"Uchihas…"
23. Forgotten
Some days Ino would walk around stressed beyond belief.
She did have to run a flower shop by herself and balance being a Jounin working in Interrogation and doing separate missions.
Sometimes it got to the point where she would snap at anyone who looked at her wrong or used the wrong tone, or be unable to function.
Of course, all was forgotten the moment she saw Itachi.
24. Hold my hand
It had been several years since her father passed, she would visit his grave once a week, Itachi always with her.
She always brought the same flowers, the ones with the appropriate meanings and he fathers favorite.
She always cried as she put them down.
Itachi always rubbed her back.
"It's okay to cry" he always reminded her.
"I-I know" she always cried
He always held her hand.
25. Silence
They always sat together in silence. They could do it for hours. It was relaxing them from all the stress in their lives.
They both surprisingly, for Ino anyway, preferred the silence to the everyday chaos.
They loved just enjoying each other's presence.
This was their bliss before and after missions. An escape.
