Draco trudged up the steps of the Astronomy Tower, exhaustion coursing through his body. His head ached something horrible and he pinched the bridge of his nose, willing the pounding in his skull away. It seemed all those late nights in the Room of Requirement working on that damned cabinet were finally taking a toll on him.
With a defeated sigh he pushed open the large oak door, hoping fresh air and time alone would do him some good. A groan of agitation escaped him upon seeing a petite figure huddled around the tower's rampart, her scraggly, dirty-blonde hair glistening slightly from the falling snowflakes. Merlin almighty, this was the last person he wanted to deal with right now.
She turned at the sound of his displeasure, that familiar dazed expression on her face. Lovegood smiled at the sight of him and the biting comment on his tongue died. He couldn't remember the last time someone smiled at him so genuinely and he was at a loss of what to do. Nonplussed at his sudden appearance, she gestured towards the snow covered Hogwarts grounds below them. "Lovely, isn't it?" It was, though Draco wasn't about to admit it. So he remained silent, leaning against the archway and studying her while she babbled nonsense.
She wore a bright purple jumper with matching mittens and earmuffs, and he wondered if she still wore that dreadful radish jewelry underneath them. He told himself he only knew what earrings she wore because they were so atrocious and not because he may have found them a little charming on her. She was barefoot, which was more common than not for the young witch, but it was too fucking cold for her to be standing out there like that. Before he could ask himself why he cared if she lost a toe or two, something she said caught his attention.
"What the bloody hell is a Wrackspurt?"
Luna blinked at him then, as if just realizing he was still there. "Why, they're little invisible creatures, of course." She said, as if this was common knowledge and he should have known. "They float around in your head and make your brain all fuzzy. Daddy says they're especially active when it snows."
He laughed, not entirely as unkindly as he would have liked and walked towards her. Maybe that's what was wrong with him right now, why she seemed somewhat pretty to him at that moment. A Wrackspurt could be addling his brains.
"How would you get rid of one, Looney?" he whispered, leaning towards her. They were so close he could see the gold specks in her silver eyes. She was shivering, not surprising due to her lack of footwear.
"Positive thoughts." She said simply, shrugging.
He shook his head, deciding it was time to go before he did something stupid. He wasn't sure what possessed him to do it but before he left, he kicked his own shoes off and placed them in front of her. "They'll be big, but you can wear them until you find yours."
He smiled at her quiet "Thank you, Draco" before the door clicked shut behind him.
Despite his soaked socks, Draco Malfoy smiled all the way down to the dungeons.
