I am so sorry that this has taken so long to update. I've had major writer's block, but that's all gone now. I promise I'm not quitting on this, or any of my stories. Anyways, here is the next chapter

Chapter 5: Hunting

Benjamin's POV

I watched as Seth gazed lovingly at my daughter as if she were the most beautiful thing in the world to him. I was as confused as I could possibly be. I could tell Laura was to. What the hell was going on here? Apparently I'm the only one who is confused about the whole situation though. Everyone else just looked shock. It was as if they knew what had just taken place.

"What is going on here?" I asked.

"He imprinted on your daughter" Edward said. Okay, now I'm even more confused than I was two seconds ago.

"They are shape shifters. They have the power to transform into wolves. Imprinting is how they find their soul mates" Edward explained.

"Soulmates!" I shouted. Oh hell no, I was not about to let this happen!

Just as I was about to run over there and basically murder that boy someone's hand grabbed my shoulder and stopped me.

I fought against the restraining hand with no luck.

"Calm down Benjamin. I understand how you feel, trust me. I felt the same way when Jacob imprinted on my daughter" he said.

"How can you tell me to calm down" I said angrily. "He's just going to do what-" Edward stopped me before I could form the rest of my thought into a sentence.

"He's not going to do whatever he wants to her. She is his whole world now. It's his job to make her happy now" Edward said. "Don't be to hard on him either. As I've come to learn imprinting is something that the wolves have no control over" he added as an afterthought.

I was able to somewhat calm down after that. Although I still wasn't very happy with the idea.

The hardest part was that Nicole was also looking at him the same way that he was looking at her. I had to reason with myself. She deserved to be happy. She's 43 years old already, she deserved to find love and settle down.

No matter how I thought of it, it was still hard to let go of her. She was and always will be my baby girl. Nothing was ever going to change that.

I left after that. I needed some time just to cool off about the whole situation. I still wasn't sure how I felt about the whole imprinting thing just yet.

I was outside when I started to feel that familiar burning in my throat again. It had been awhile since I last hunted only now I was starting to feel the burn.

"Benjamin, honey, what are you doing out here?" I hadn't realized that my mom was here. My mom those were two words that I could still not get used to. I had a mom.

She looked at me and I realized that I hadn't answered her question yet.

"Nothing really. It's just a lot to take in. That's all" I said.

"I know it is. I'm not sure this is something that you really ever can get used to" she said.

"Maybe or maybe not. All I know is that I already love being part of this family. I especially love you mom" I said.

She looked like she was about to tear up. She just threw her arms around me.

"I love you to Ben" she said.

"What were you doing out here?" I asked.

"I was about to go for a quick hunt actually. Then I guess I got a little distracted when I saw you" she said.

I laughed.

"Can I go with you? I'm feeling pretty parched right now" I said.

She just smiled at me.

"Son, nothing would make me happier. Besides you do look thirsty. Your eyes are darker then they were this morning" she said.

I smiled back.

"Alright mom" I said.

Then I realized that this would be my first time hunting animals. I was a little worried. How does hunting animals work? I was an expert at hunting humans. The key there is to lure them in. To get them to follow you so you could drink their blood. It wasn't that hard to do; the women were especially easy for me. Just like the men were especially easy for my wife. The men had also been the easiest for Nicole back when she still drank human blood. Hunting animals was completely new and uncharted territory. How does it work?

"Are you okay Ben? You look worried" mom asked. Now she looked worried.

"I am little worried. It's my first time hunting animals. I have no idea how to do it" I said.

"Don't worry it's really easy. Just close your eyes and listen" she said. I did as she said and I closed my eyes. I concentrated on the sounds coming from the surrounding forest. I could hear a lot of different things at once. I heard a deer drinking from a nearby stream. It's heartbeat was loud and clear. Without thinking about it I had chased after him.

The startled animal looked up at me a second before I had leaped on top of him. I immediately bit as hard as I could and started drinking. I fought the urge to spit out the blood almost as soon as I had started drinking. It tasted nowhere near as good as human blood tasted. It didn't smell anywhere near as good as a human smells either. I had to remind myself the reason that I committed myself to this lifestyle in the first place. I valued human life. I was not going to be a monster anymore. This is just the sacrifice that I am going to have to make.

Once I was done I kicked the dead carcass away from me.

"See that wasn't so bad" mom said.

I spun around. I had been to busy feeding to even notice that she was there.

"It tasted awful" I said.

"You just have to get used to it. It's not easy, human blood is always much more appealing than animal blood is. That's why not many vampires drink animal blood. A lot of us have even slipped up from time to time" mom said.

"It doesn't sound easy at all" I said.

"No it isn't, but you and Laura have us. We'll help you both transition" she said.

"Thanks mom" I said.

"It's nothing sweetie. I want to help you. You're my son after all" she said. "Also carnivores a lot more tasty than the herbivores, and they are much more fun to hunt to" she said.

I listened again. This time I was listening for a carnivore. I wanted to know if she was right. Although there was no doubt in the back of my mind that she was right.

In the distance I heard an animal roaring, and I chased after it as fast as I could. As I got closer I saw that it was a mountain lion.

Just as I was about to jump something grabbed me and yanked me away. Whatever the creature was it dragged me away. All I could hear were the vicious snarls coming out of it's mouth. Then I saw that it was a large silver wolf.

It threw me onto the floor and more wolves appeared.

Before I could move the large black wolf had me pinned to the floor with it's teeth at hovering just inches away from my throat; ready to kill me.
