A wolf and a firefly.
Autumn, it marks the end of the summer, Rainy weather, hard wind and lots of work to do for the officers of the Seireitei. On an particular evening Captain Toshiro Hitsugaya of the Tenth Division was in his office, busily working on the annual division report. He never minded all the paperwork, he was quite used to the hard working. It had always paid off as it had gotten him to where he was now. Still in the most occupied times he wished his Lieutenant would offer assistance with the paperwork more often. She usually managed to get away from her duties that involved filling in countless papers, which annoyed him greatly. It was quite an inconvenience for him, since he would cover for her. He had a soft spot for her, but never showed it, other then doing her work on top of his own. He was a Captain, there was no space for non-professional behavior in his schedule.
The Captain was about to finish the fourth page of the long report, about some recent increase in hollow activity when his Lieutenant hurriedly barged in. 'Captain! Look! I have the files of the new recruits!' Cheerfully she held the papers out to him, almost jumping up and down out of excitement. 'That's great Matsumoto... Now will you get to work? There is a lot to do.' He signed the page with a signature with a slight frown on his face, moving on to the next one. He wasn't even halfway through this one and still there was more work to be done. 'And please tell me you are not drunk.' Slightly offended by his remark Matsumoto let out a sigh, shaking her head. She knew he had a bit distrust towards her since she drank often, but just because she was excited, didn't mean she was always intoxicated. 'I haven't been drinking! Come on Captain! I'm just a bit energetic because there are two people, who have besides gotten their Shikai also mastered it! Doesn't that sound interesting?' Captain Hitsugaya grunted absently, not feeling much for this other distraction. 'Matsumoto, I'll read them later tonight. There is still so much to do...' He paused for a small sigh, letting his weariness show. 'Would you at least try to help me with this pile?' She gave in, feeling a little disappointed, it seemed he never listened to her. The busty woman left the files on the corner of his desk and went to work one the pile he had signed her off to. The paperwork had always bored her, she usually got away with it. Matsumoto just had her methods. Her captain would make it, yielding to her, but now she would have to feel guilty. There was already a lot of work to do and she didn't want him to get overworked, which would most likely cause a migraine. She had seen him stressed a few times, which was already quite terrible.
In the end Captain Hitsugaya found some time to look them over, memorizing the faces and names, but never had the time to look into the details. There was just some much work for him to do. In the evenings he was just glad to finally close his eyes and rest, feeling fulfilled as he knew he had done a quite some work. After a couple of days he organized them neatly into his archive, needing the space on his desk. Because of that he never actually looked at them again.
A couple of weeks later, somewhere in a dorm room of the Spiritual Arts Academy. 'Come on Igita get out of bed! It's morning! We're gonna go to the division!' A fiery red, short haired girl, with a lightly tanned skin, shook her friend, Igita, wildly. 'Yuki... It's to early... let me sleep...' The other girl, who had very long black hair and a pale skin, opened her eyes. They were a light sort of yellow. Tiredly Igita pushed Yuki away and turned around in her bed. She was trying to get comfortable again, as she had been awakened from her sleep rather roughly. She just wanted a bit more sleep. 'But Igita... aren't you excited? We are going to a division! After all the boring years here, we will be real soulreapers!' Yuki sat down on the edge of the bed, looking at Igita with her bright red eyes, smiling broadly. She wanted Igita to be as excited as her. They had looked forward to this day for a long, long time. The other girl closed her eyes again, not yet wanting to wake as, her mind was still clouded in sleep. 'Yuki... What... time is it...' Igita moved her head to a colder spot of the pillow, which felt relaxing to her. Her speech was a bit slow and slurred as she was only half awake Yuki put the top of her thumb in her mouth 'Pfwell It'sf fiwfe in thwe mownin...' A frown immediately got onto Igita's face. Obviously she wasn't happy, the time was way earlier the she ever even wanted to wake up, not to mention it had been a bit later then usual for them to go to sleep. 'Yuki... You woke me up... at five in the morning! Ugh... It can't be helped... I'm going back to sleep' She pulled her covers up, dozing off, before the other woman could say a word. Yuki let her head fall back. She stood up, stretching her neck, sighing in defeat as she watched how her best friend had dozed off to sleep again. She looked around for some sort of distraction, doing nothing other then waiting for a couple of hours, was definitely not an option for her, she just wasn't the type for that. Yuki enjoyed being active, keeping herself occupied. Then an idea popped into her mind and Yuki ran out of their room, with a big smile plastered on her face.
Somewhere around three hours later Igita got woken up again and Yuki was leaning over her looking in her eyes curiously. The red ones were filled with excitement. She was always a lively person and she always managed to brighten people's days "Hey Igita! I made you breakfast! Come with me!" When she tried to pull up to get her out of bed, Yuki felt a small electric charge run through her, giving away the fact that her best friend was awake. She shuddered as it stopped soon, not really enjoying the tingling 'Igita! Come on! It's an annoying habit... Besides there is food for you.' Igita couldn't help but smile after Yuki had gotten off of her. She put her feet next to the bed and stretched her still sleeping arms and legs. She hugged the redhead as she realized what she had done. It had taken some time before it sank in 'Hmm breakfast... Still I should get dressed first... ' She quickly put on her new uniform, staring at herself in the mirror. She was still a bit surprised she that this was actually happening. and she began to understand how her best friend was so excited and full of energy. Yuki had already changed into that hours ago, before she had even attempted to wake her. No more school uniform for them, finally she had received the official soulreaper attire. A few minutes later she was walking with Yuki to the lunchroom in soft black cotton, made to their size. Yuki dislike the long sleeves but knew they could get the details adjusted later. When Igita walked through the door she saw a big table filled with all kinds of different dishes, ranging from rice and vegetables, to grilled meats and hot soup. Her mouth dropped as she stared at the delicious meals, which had a rich thick aroma. Igita turned to Yuki and hugged her very tight, almost choking her. She was extremely happy to see all that food. 'Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!' Hungrily Igita let go and jumped over the table with great agility. She sat down at a chair and started shoving the food inside at an amazing speed. Within minutes, all the food on the table was gone. Everything was empty, not a crumb remaining. Igita sunk back into the chair, feeling satisfied as she was burping uncharmingly loud, not that she cared. She was just filled and that always made her feel well 'Oh... god... so... frigging good...' Yuki grinned as she looked at her best friend, eating away the meal. Igita had always been a lover for food, as she needed massive amounts to feed her energy-creating stomach. That caused her to barely gain at all so she had a slim figure, just like Yuki. Still it was odd that such large amounts of food disappeared, but her stomach was still normal as ever. 'Good! I worked at least two hours on that... Now can we go? Please? Please?' She looked at Igita, pleading with a set of red puppy-eyes. She was eager to go, being quite curious for her new life and it's adventures. She was sure it would be wonderful. Igita nodded as she slowly got up, feeling all the food sliding down to right place. 'There's only... on little thing... We need to get our bags' She put her hands in the air stretching again. 'Let's go get those and then we'll have race to the division to see who's first!' Both girls smiled in excitement, walking in a fast pace to their room. Most people around them grinned and continued with what they were doing, they were all used to it by now. They were always together like that. They were energetic and full of life, enjoying it.
The soft morning sun was shining on the rooftops, as Yuki and Igita ran, neck to neck, through the streets of the Seireitei. Having been forced to learn at least all the mayor paths, they easily stopped in front of the gate of the tenth division, both heaving slightly after the refreshing morning run. 'I won, I was first!' Igita grinned about her victory, as she restored her hair. It was a complete mess, the gentle wind had wildly tugged it. 'Oh come on. It's clear, I stood here first' Yuki pushed Igita, who stumbled backwards, her hands letting go of her hair. She quickly found her footing and pushed her in return. They started laughing as they wrestled each other, trying to make the other on fall, though neither had any success. They knew each other to well. It was fun to them, letting go of some of that exciting energy and the playfulness cheered them up. It relaxed them from their nerves. The first day was just always so big.
'I never expected that fresh recruits would come so early. Now if the two of you could stop your fuss...' The voice was soft, but still very clear and a bit annoyed by there hyper behavior. Yuki and Igita stopped laughing, letting go of one another and turned to the voice. Their backs straightened. It had startled the both of them, as it had a certain weight to it. This wasn't an everyday person talking. Yuki looked at the guy weirdly and leaned a bit to Igita. She was a little suspicious, seeming as how they hadn't even noticed the person nearing. She was quite sensitive to her surroundings, so it felt a bit uncomfortable that she hadn't been aware. The redhead turned her head a few degrees to her best friend, keeping her eyes on the young guy 'Igita, who is he? His hair is white...' It wasn't exactly a whisper, Captain Hitsugaya heard it and gave her a strange look, ignoring the urge to role his eyes, instead he smiled faintly. The faintly tanned girl seemed to be giving of this lively energy, while her paler friend had the same, still different aura. It was something he enjoyed. Igita smiled reassuring at Yuki, knowing her friend she was probably being cautious like she usually was in new surroundings. It was only natural for her, Yuki was always watchful. 'He is Captain Hitsugaya. He's the new alpha.' Yuki nodded slowly, feeling less nervous and made a step towards the Captain, bending forward slightly, taking a sniff of his scent. It had a faint hint of watermelon but that was mostly covered by a strong smell of snow and cold, frosty air. 'W-what are you doing?' He crossed his arms to hide his surprise at the action and maintain his posture. Igita grinned slightly. 'That's her way of... accepting you, Captain Hitsugaya. At least I believe so.' Yuki nodded as she glanced shortly to the other woman, to confirm Igita's statement, as she was memorizing the scent to his face together with the spiritual pressure.
She stepped back again, standing close to Igita. Yuki could feel the slight tension, Igita next to her eased that feeling. Captain Hitsugaya sighed, noticing something was a bit off with these two. His mind suddenly cleared as he realized who they were. 'You're the ones who mastered their Shikai. I do recall now. What were your names again?' He put no effort into hiding his slight joy. Both girls nodded flashing him broad smiles. Igita decided to introduce themselves, noticing Yuki's calmer behavior. She was respectful towards her Alpha. 'My name is Igita On'nanoko and this is Yuki Fugita.' Before she could continue Yuki interrupted her, speaking her words as she thought while looking at the ground. 'I don't like my last name though...' She chuckled a bit before scratching her ear. Igita shortly remembered what she had said and decided to continue 'Oh eh... My Zanpaktou's name is Hotaru and Yuki's Zanpaktou is called Okami.' Slightly nervous, she looked at her hands, which were busy fiddling with her outfit. Neither of the girls had any idea what their Captain would be like. Captain Hitsugaya nodded in response to the introduction, feeling his mood lighten further He wondered what would become of them, they seemed capable and ready to grow further. 'Well as you said earlier, I'm the Captain of this Division.' He smiled shortly 'Now if you two will come with me, then I'll give you your schedules and the directions to your room. Also you will have to fill in a bit of paperwork regarding some more detailed information, but for the rest of this day you can go explore the division, getting to know your new environment. I'm sure you must be very curious' Again they both nodded. They had no idea how else to respond, their stomachs filled with nerves. Yuki and Igita grabbed there bags and followed the Captain to his office. It was exciting. They were finally in an actual division, though it was still sinking in.
There, Yuki and Igita got placed in the same room so they were officially roommates now. Barely containing their happiness, the girls were grinning. Due to the fact they were both seated officers, they weren't assigned to the same squads. They both had to lead their own. They hoped they still have plenty of time together, they would not let anything separate them. Captain Hitsugaya smiled. He started to liked the two of them. There were multiple types of recruits. Some respectful, some not and some just a bit unfit for his division. Still they were pleasant, respectful and they seemed to have a very close bond. He valued friendship highly, so he was glad to see such good friends. 'Now the only thing you two will have to do now is: Fill in this paperwork and then return it to me. It won't take so much time, but I will expect it back before mid-afternoon. That is all. Remember my door is always open.' Both girls got a few papers handed to them and were then excused from the office. Hurriedly they sprinted to their room, but the they got a bit lost. They ended up in the wrong halls a few times, before they finally found the door with a metal W17. 'Wow, Igita, I can't believe we're in an actual division now. It's going to be so awesome!' Yuki looked around, taking in her new surroundings and remembering the way, whilst Igita opened the door. Both hoped they would grow accustomed to their new responsibilities soon and actually learned to have fun with it. They would be guided by their squads into managing them. On the academy they had learned the basics for it, but now they needed to get to know new people and manage more duties.
The girls walked in, taking in the sight of there new room. It was a medium sized room, with two beds, two desks a few cabinets and a bookcase. Two dark orange doors were on the same wall, one leading to the kitchen and the other to the bathroom. There was a nice big window with dark brown curtains and special blinds, for privacy. The walls were light brown with a black floor. Yuki dropped her bag and sat down on the middle of the floor, which was made of painted wood. It felt nice to have a hard floor. It was stable. She traced her fingers over the wood, hoping she would feel at home here. 'I like the room. It looks... natural, I think.' She stared at the window. Igita smiled and walked to a bed. 'It does... Anyways do you mind if I take this side of the room?' It was not like she cared about it that much she just wanted it to be clear, to avoid confusion. Yuki shook here head before stretching. A moment of silence passed as her previous excitement surfaced again. A smile popped up. 'It's sounds fine to me. But... should we go look around? I want to know if they have bacon!' Igita opened her bag, taking out some clothes putting them on the right place in one of the cabinets. Kimono's on the lowest shelf and the smaller stuff on higher shelves, Somehow that felt organized. 'Well we should unpack first Yuki, its not that much we have with us. Also if we finish the paperwork early we'll have the whole day to have fun and find food! I'm so excited!' She also had found her rush again, her voice filling with happiness. Her friend groaned, but got off the floor unpacking her bag as well. There were a few pouches of bacon in them which she stored under her bed, nearby for easy access. She had fallen in love with the dry meat from the first time she tasted it, she loved the salty, spicy taste. After thinking about the bacon for a while she grabbed the papers, looking at them. 'I don't like all that writing... It takes so much time.' Igita laughed softly and was soon joined by Yuki. The few nerves they had, loosened up as they became relaxed in their new place.
As they settled in their new room, they started on their first official paperwork. It was actually just bunch of standard questions and they finished it rather quickly. Igita looked over her answers, as Yuki finished as well. 'Let's go Igita! Come on! Let's bring this to the Alpha and then go outside!' The redhead couldn't hide her energy any longer. She really wanted to go and explore. Igita got up, smiling broadly. Her best friend's spirit was contagious as Igita got dragged in. She loved it. 'Sounds great! I could use some fresh air and a snack... I would like something to chew on for a moment.' Igita's stomach made a faint growl at the word snack causing both to start laughing.
Yuki and Igita turned in their paperwork, getting praised for their quick working and spent the rest of the day in, out and around the division. They managed to cause avoid making trouble and still have loads of fun. In the evening they stayed in their room, talking endlessly about all the fun they would have and had, wondering what their new lives would be like. They didn't even go to their beds until midnight, but in there they still kept talking on and on. Once they did fall asleep, they were sleeping deeply. They both dreaming of their upcoming adventures.
