Penny's guardian angel didn't visit that night.

But that was okay, because she didn't feel alone; every minute or so her phone would buzz and she would light up as brightly as the screen as she read each new text message Kenny had sent her. She seemingly forgot about her hero as she quickly typed a message back only to have her phone's inbox alert her again at his reply and the cycle repeated.

As the girl curled up under her covers she clutched her mobile in her hands. Only seconds after she responded it beeped 'New Message from Sexy Beast!' She laughed quietly as read over the name. Kenny had assigned it as his name in her contact list and she still hadn't changed it. It's not like she'd forget who it was; the only contacts she had on her phone were her family and him.

She clicked 'accept' and the message loaded up, the illumination of the screen was the only light in the room.

'To: Penny Campbell

lol xD hey, have you seen the photos craig uploaded on facebook from clydes party? theyre priceless!'

x

Penny quickly sent back a response, she'd never had such a lively conversation over text messaging before. Isn't it was the popular kids did? She smiled, it made her feel cool for once.

'To: Sexy Beast

I don't actually have facebook.'

x

Send. Okay, so she wasn't very good at knowing what to say but Kenny seemed to make up for both of them in enthusiasm.

x

'To: Penny Campbell

What?! :O you should totally get it! here, I'll send you the photos, you have to see them!'

x

'Sexy Beast sent you image files, if you accept they will begin download'

When the photos loaded Penny couldn't help but giggle. There was an entire album just of Clyde dancing around in his underwear with a taco in his hand. At least he looked like he was having fun. She wondered what his reaction was when he saw these posted online.

'To: Sexy Beast

Lol, is this what I've been missing at parties all this time?'

x

She was getting into the hang of casual text but her use of 'Lol' seemed awkward so she deleted it and replaced it with a more comfortable 'Haha'. Baby steps, she supposed. Send.

x

'To: Penny Campbell

From: Sexy Beast

Nah, that's just how Clyde is. Party or no party xD'

x

She was about to text back when her inbox lit up again.

'To: Penny Campbell

She glanced at the time on her phone. Kenny was right, it was late; 00:30 the analogue warned her. She sighed, she didn't want to stop talking, she was having fun.

x

'To: Sexy Beast

The girl switched off her phone and her eyes stung a little as they adjusted back to the darkness of her room. She curled up in her bed, clutching the small device close to her heart. She fell asleep within a few minutes and as it Kenny's words held some kind of power

She woke up tired the next morning but still had a smile on her face.

The first few lessons at school flew by in a blur and before she knew it, it was lunch time again, the time of day that she now found herself feeling cautiously happy about.

Kenny didn't come over this time, he was already sitting with his friends at their usual table. Penny was about to begin eating alone when someone else's voice spoke up to her out of the blue. "W-well hi there! Mind if I sit down?"

She looked up to see the one boy who had the lightest blonde hair in the whole school. "Of- of course," she scooted over on the bench to make room for Butters.

"M-my name's Leopold, but everyone calls me Butters," he smiled with such amicability you almost feel the positivity as it radiated off of him.

"I-I'm Penelope, but everyone calls me Penny," she laughed lightly, stretching her face into a grin that matched his.

Meanwhile, Kenny was over with his friends who were keeping their eyes on him closely. God, couldn't they just leave him alone? But then again, he'd been so pre-occupied lately he couldn't really blame them. Except Cartman, who was just being as irritating as ever going on about his stupid 'secret superhero' alter-ego, The Coon. Not that he'd ever admit that whatever he said about The Coon was really just him gloating about himself.

"Did you guys hear? The Coon is gonna be out again tonight! Everyone in South park is going to be on their streets trying to take a photo of him. Not that they'd be able to; the Coon is far too stealthy to be caught on film,"

"Just shut the hell up Cartman, no one cares about The Coon and no one is going to waste their time outside in the night trying to spot him," Kyle had his head in his hands exasperated.

"Yeah, if he was that great how come you're the only person who knows about him being out tonight?"

"Well I guess it's only kewl people who will be trying to see him then. I guess I don't blame you for being too dumb to recognize such a great hero," the tub of lard shook his head. He had such a big superiority complex that sometimes even Kenny couldn't wrap his head around it.

Kenny tuned out before Cartman could go on any further and heard the familiar sound of shy yet awkwardly light-hearted laughter. He briefly turned around and stole a glance towards Penny. She and Butters already looked like they'd been friends forever. The parka cladded boy allowed a discreet grin of victory spread across his features; he knew they'd get along and Butters seemed eager to befriend her when Kenny brought it up to him; he had never noticed her before.

Kenny wouldn't be surprised if they bonded over that anxious stutter they seemed to share.

"Yo, Kenny?" His mind was pulled back to the table where he was sitting where his friends were all looking at him expectantly.

"Huh, what?" he rubbed his eyes.

The expression on everyone's face was easily readable: 'Dude, you've been zoning out so much lately! It's annoying, stop.' But Kyle just sighed. "Are you coming out to watch Mysterion next week? I hear some kids are thinking of attacking him,"

Stan laughs, "Like they stand a chance,"

"Attacking him? Who'd you hear that from?" the sudden perk of interest in his voice left Kyle raising an eyebrow.

"I just heard it through the grapevine?"

"Seriously, Kyle, who?" Kenny put his hands on the table and leaned upwards, he needed to make sure quickly so he could prepare if it was true.

"I don't know, I heard some kids talking I think they were from the grade above us. So, you coming to watch?"

"I don't know, I'll see," he relaxed; he couldn't let on to what that information meant. Kyle looked like he wanted to say something else but the bell rang and Kenny quickly threaded his way through the crowd of dispersing students.

At the signal of lunch's end, Penny gathered her things and said goodbye to Butters, smiling. He was a truly nice person and she really enjoyed talking to him. She guessed she had two friends now, maybe life was starting to go her way.

On her way out the door she bumped into Kenny again. When he saw her he said something that sounded like he was rushing. "Oh! Hey you. I'm sorry but I won't be able to text you tonight because my credit's run out and I'm broke, no surprises there, so you'll have to survive without my wonderfully sexy beast charm for the night," the words came out quickly but he managed to end with his signature wink. Kenny was full of surprises.

"Oh, um, okay," she tried to hide her disappointment but it was easy to see through her façade.

"Aw, please don't be sad. I promise I'll get credit soon, just for you~" he pulled her hood back and smiled at her. "We better get going to class, I'll walk you?"

That cheered her up, "I-I'd like that," she blushed as he grabbed her hand and the walked down the hallway together.
