Chapter 17: True Meaning

"Well, happiness." Cesar looked up to the sky, there seemed to be no clouds in sight, he let the sun's radiance cling to his head. "Yeah, happiness." Scarlet was confused.

"Aren't you already happy, I mean we have our parents back and each other." Scarlet nudged Cesar's side as she says this. Cesar gives a look at her and then she realised what he was talking about. "Oh, yeah, I think I figured it out, we should go to visit her." Scarlet tried to smile but the moment wasn't the best for smiling too much. Scarlet stands up and offers a paw to help Cesar up, he waited for a moment, staring at the paw, he looked up towards Scarlet and smiled whilst taking her paw. Scarlet yanks Cesar up and clings to his side. "Uhhh, which way is the infirmary now?" Scarlet and Cesar look around for a few moments.

"It's over there sis." Cesar replies whilst pointing in a direction. Scarlet looks at Cesar and asks.

"How can you be so..." Scarlet followed where Cesar was pointing and saw a sign that held the word "infirmary" on it. "Umm, that's dumb luck." Scarlet turns away, and Cesar chuckles in disbelief.

"If you say so." Cesar replies and begins to walk in the direction of the infirmary before... *crash* another dragon came running straight into him, knocking themself and Cesar over.

"Cesar!" Scarlet yells as she races over to pick him up. "That's the second time you've fallen over today, be more careful would you!" Scarlet gradually picks him up. And look over to the other dragon. "Are you okay?" The dragon didn't answer. "Excuse me, dragon on the floor." The dragon replies now.

"I'm good." The dragon slowly gets up off of the floor. "I'm sorry for running into you." The dragon apologises. The dragon seemed to be wearing a nurse's robe.

"Wait, that robe, you work at the infirmary right?" Scarlet asks the dragon.

"Why yes I do. May I know both your names?" The dragon answers shortly after, the dragon quickly brushes the dirt off of the robe it wore.

"I'm Scarlet." Scarlet chirps.

"I'm Cesar, what's yours?" Cesar answers in a less good mood.

"My name is Sola, it's a pleasure to meet you Scarlet and Cesar." Sola replies, however she was slightly put off by Cesar's mood. "Where are you two heading?"

"We're going to the infirmary to check on a family member, she's not been so good recently." Cesar returned an answer this time with a more pleasant tone to his voice. "We'd best get going."

"Oh alright, I hope your friend gets better soon, see you around." Sola replies whilst walked off towards where she was going before, shortly she started running again.

"That was..." Cesar pauses and looks at Scarlet. "Awkward." Scarlet nods her head in agreement. And the pair wall in their own direction towards the infirmary. They soon found themselves strolling down the hall, approaching the room Cynder was being treated in. "Well." Cesar whispers. "You want to go in first?" Scarlet looked over to him and smiled.

"Why don't we both go in, at the same time?" Scarlet suggested in a soothing voice. Cesar didn't know why, but this triggered the unlikeliest of memories that he once shared with his sister.

Flashback

Green Haven Forest

Not to far from the village laid an old sanctuary in the middle of a forest one told to have hidden a great secret, as secret that soon turned dark. A foolish younglings told, they felt a strange urge of anger as they came close to the sanctuary, other older dragons tested however they felt the same urge this time a bit more evil. This is when Cesar and Scarlet, foolish whilst they were young, decided to try for themselves if the same effect happened to them. They had been travelling for around ten minutes before they reached it, Green Haven Sanctuary.

"Well, I don't feel anything." Scarlets voiced echoed around the sanctuary. Broken statues of the ancients scattered the area and a small well was placed in the centre of them, or at least that's what it looked like to them.

"They said it's when we get closer! Come on!" Cesar seemed cheerful and excited to be in this particular area. Both the excited younglings rushed closer towards the opening of the sanctuary. "Here we are." The excitement in Cesar's voice had sprung up as he came face to face with the entrance of the old temple that used to stand tall, but now was demolished into almost nothingness. "It's so exciting." He then paused. "Hello?" He waited for an answer, but none came out loud. Scarlet approached his side.

"What is it brother?" Scarlet asked confused as to why Cesar had spoken to himself. Cesar didn't answer for a few seconds, he then turned his head to look at Scarlet.

"I swear…" Cesar paused mid sentence. "...Something's talking." Cesar looked back towards the temple. "We should investigate, I'll go first." Cesar went to enter the temple, Scarlet walks in front of him to stop him in his tracks.

"We, will go investigate, together." Scarlet chirps as she jumped in excitement.

Flashback Over

"Together it is then, at the same time." Cesar smiles at Scarlet. Scarlet returns the smile and they both enter the room, the wrong room. Both dragons stared into the empty room and then at each other, Scarlet cracked a first smile and suddenly she went into a fit of laughing, Cesar who stood embraced didn't laugh. "There's always a chance in wrong." Cesar moves his front paw up and behind his head, he scratches it and gives an embarrassed look. "Maybe the next room?" Scarlet stops laughing and began to act more serious.

"Maybe, though we are dumb dumbs considering we went in the wrong room." Scarlet jokes. "Wait, didn't the guardians want to see us?" Cesar realises this and looks at Scarlet.

"Let's go then, and uh say we were asleep. " Cesar says this as he looks towards a clock tower outside the window. "It's, four-thirty, what do we say?" Cesar' voice dropped as he saw the time.

"Well they didn't say a certain time, or place." Scarlet replied trying to calm him down. "Wait, we didn't get told where to see them.."

"See who?" A large booming voice erupted from behind them, both Scarlet and Cesar turned around in panic, it was Terrador. "Oh, you two, we need to see you both, follow me." Terrador turns away abruptly and begins to walk. Scarlet and Cesar follow him with slightly scared faces on them.

"So, we need to go against their plans it seems." A shadowed figure asks.

"It would seem if we defy them then we both have a shot at living." Another shadowed figure answers in a calm tone. "You must trust me old friend, we can both live, alongside everyone else."

Well everyone if you haven't guessed these last two chapters were just some character development chapters but we should be getting back to the main thing very soon, I've actually quite frankly had no time to work on this lately because of personal things going on and because I'm re thinking some things that will happen later in the book, don't worry if you don't understand anything now it'll all be explained later in the book, but for now I'll let you think what will happen.
